you can definitely do this - a part of the kickstarter includes wooden dungeon tile pieces. You should be able to put the building pieces on top of any dungeon tiles.
You don't/ cant. This is why they have pretty much abandoned the grid that all their products use to have. DF products stopped being about practical gaming terrain, years ago. Now it's just for diorama building/ social media pics.
@@asdfhiuhI run sessions weekly and it can be done. This build is supposed to be played not just horizontal but vertical with players on each level. You take each level and spread them on your table plenty of game room.

Look at the average bedroom in your house, there's not as much room as you think. It's the bases that make minis seem bigger when in DF terrain houses

@@asdfhiuh I typically use reaper or wiz kids. Its a mix of 28 and 32mm.
