    The one thing I learned a long time ago about spray painting is to put the hose over your shoulder so it doesn't drag up against your project. The hose should just be long enough to reach out with your arm straight then going over the shoulder around the neck and over the other shoulder and under your arm then end up behind you.

    I must say that is a great idea I was about to purchase one when my wife told me that there are 2 of them in the garage that she purchased super cheap... I just put it up and works like a charm.....for various tasks....thanks

    Little late being a year old but a an idea, try sell "tarp zippers" that are just adhesive backed zippers. Could use slightly thicker mil plastic on one side and use that for the door. Would add a little to the cost but might make entering and exiting a little easier too

    I've done a similar setup as a heated exterior wet tile cutting booth during a tile job during a MN winter. small heater and away we went!

    Usa a boxfan in one of the corners to get the fumes out! It works great

    I've done this before using tarps worked well and hopefully gonna find a cheap car port this year rather then my ez up. Also not sure if it helps but I used to spray air barriers on all sorts of building and to keep my respirator filters lasting a bit longer I use a cloth and wrap the filter and some painters tape to hold it on. Then discard the cloth when daily or even sooner if need be. And use baby wipes to clean any thing in or out of the mask after I leave the booth.

    I like the set up. Great I'd you dont have a dedicated booth. When building case work and cubbies, you should machine and prefinish your parts first then assembly. Its extremely difficult to get a great finish inside of a box due to overspray . I avoid spraying vertical, you cant lay an adequate amount of finish without sag and runs

    • @Nickporter17

      I couldn't figure out why I was getting so many nibs in certain areas. Then I figured out it was just not enough material and the light coats were rough. Great tips!

    • @LTVoyager
      @LTVoyager 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      bp 77 Yes, a booth should have some form of ventilation with filters. And once you learn to paint, you can paint vertical surfaces just fine without runs. Generally, the tricks are to use multiple coats with the first coat very light and then get a little heavier each subsequent coat. And having a good gun that is set properly.

    Great video! I never thought to use a pop up, excellent idea.
    Quick PSA, tell Shawn he needs to get some cartridge filters like you've got, those pink 2097s don't do anything for airborne vapors.

      @katzmosestools  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I will thanks bud!

    • @jennasyseng
      @jennasyseng 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree, for an enclosed space (like a spray booth) the cartridge style will be more effective. The 2097s (for Organic Vapor) might be OK if you are just outside though ("Nuisance Level" but not concentrated).

    • @chrishand259
      @chrishand259 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The way I learned was pink is for particulate, vapors require the cartridges.

    • @saritsotangkur2438
      @saritsotangkur2438 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, you end up ruining your 2097 filters if you keep doing that. I have one one pair that ended up smelling like mineral spirits when you inhale (of course I ended up tossing that one).

    This may be in some of the other comments answer wise but I'm wondering what you do use for ventilation to get rid of the overspray?

    The canopy in the video has a scissor-lke frame. The EZ Up Canopy on Amazon doesn't appear to. Maybe it changed? In any case, a great idea. I need a simple spray booth solution for my airless gun.

  • @captainedc

    Nice booth but you are forgetting 2 extremely important things. The fumes you are breathing from that less than adequate mask are deadly. Not to mention they can very easily create an explosion like you wouldn't even believe.
    One spark or static charge and BOOM.
    ESPECIALLY since you are letting them build up by not using a fan. Which needs to be explosion proof.
    Just sayin.

      @@blahblahblahblah2837 Sorry for the delay. In Ontario, there's strict guidelines around spray booths, everything right down to the type of blades used on fans.

    • @ShawnDBell
      @ShawnDBell 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@clayvansickle1 Where I live, it's not permissible to use a temporary setup such as this, unless you're spraying waterborne lacquer, at which point I don't believe you're required to follow the same guidelines as if you were spraying something combustible. The main concerns are the environmental impact and safety. If for example, you made a setup like this and bought cheap walmart fans that had metal parts, and there was a spark, the entire spray booth could explode, that's why spray booths are designed so that all metal parts are grounded. A side note, where I live we're also not allowed to open five gallon lacquer cans on a table, you need to keep it on the ground and you can't steer it with a metal object (i.e, the screwdriver you likely opened it with).
