I was listening to some Роман Сидоров songs when I accidentally touched the screen of my phone and somehow clicked this video. Glad that happened. Love the post-punk vibe from this song
Mmm this makes Dendo Marionette, the Awa compilation and Vanity records look mainstream. I think the extra muffled sound is because this single by Mr Takeshi Kanno is a flexi and flexi sucked big time but for some reasons they were very popular in the Japanese underground... I love the fact that they didn't even think this could be heard or sold outside Japan.
its not because "flexi sucked big time [sic]", that is a total myth imo. i have many japanese sonosheets that have great quality sound. its not difficult to understand why they were a popular choice among underground artists as they were much cheaper to produce. this was likely a deliberate production choice, either that or a poor rip - but i highly doubt that.

@@andmoreagain he has one track (現地人の根強い抵抗 = ~"The People Around Here Aren't Having It" or "Locals Fight Back") on the Red Tape comp that came out in Europe and Japan and is a lot easier to find than Smilestyle, but still almost impossible in 2024. i've never heard Smilestyle but i know a big wavehead who has it and he said the Kanno tracks there aren't as good as the flexi, that they're "more abstract wave and not that catchy"
