She regrets going to Willard H.S. instead of accepting a full ride scholarship to an arts high school elsewhere, but says she turned the scholarship down to stay in Willard for her then-boyfriend, who worked on his family's dairy farm, and who later became a Marine. Chappell has milked cows herself. (It feels "like a d**k" in your hand, she said.) She's been engaged twice, says she expected to become a wife ("you're nothing more than his wife!") and have babies. Considering all of the above, it seems likely one engagement was before leaving home, and might have been to the dairy famer boyfriend she stayed in Willard for. Was Bad Prom Date Boyfriend also Dairy Farmer Boyfriend, who she stayed in Willard for? Seems possible. What huge changes in her life's direction she's undergone. It'll be an interesting biography when someone writes it. And she's such a mega-star already, SO many people love her songs, voice, performances, aesthetic, and authenticity, it probably won't be all that long before one gets written.
@ I thought the same exact thing about the guy not dancing with her and it inspiring SGUMG! It looks like someone enjoys this Chappell Roan rabbit hole as much as I do. I hope one day we have answers to all of these questions, but I totally get her wanting to keep some things to herself.
