- Hear from Hugh Laurie and Tom Hiddleston - two of today’s most exciting actors and the stars of AMC’s new mini-series spy thriller, “The Night Manager.” Premiering April 19, “The Night Manager” is a contemporary interpretation of John le Carré’s best-selling spy novel, which follows a former British soldier working as a Cairo hotel manager enlisted by the London and Washington intelligence agencies to bring down the world’s most powerful international arms dealer. To get to him, he must become a criminal himself. Interviewed by New York Times television editor Gilbert Cruz.

Love those two. Intelligent, articulated, deep and passionate. Such brilliant artists and interesting gentlemen. About the interviewer, great at doing his job, which, as I consider, is just throwing out a simple question and letting the artists explain and express themselves without annoying or even egocentric interruptions. Great interview, loved every minute of it.
Wow. Hiddleston can discuss nearly anything...well and intelligently. But so can Hugh Laurie it seems. Is British education better than American???
Hugh and Tom are clever even by British standards - all these guys had private education and then went to Oxford or Cambridge, so they are the intellectual elite of Britain.

I've just finished watching "The Night Manager" and I thoroughly enjoyed the wonderful portrayals of these two outstanding actors. They had such great chemistry together that I hope they can find another project to work on together at some time in the future.

Gosh, Le Carre is one of my favourit authors. Hugh is theeeee funiest comedian I 've ever seen. Yes folk. Hugh was a comedian in the UK before House. Tom an extraodinary actor (Henry VI part 1 and 2 - TV film). All of them in a single work? What else can I ask?

Pet peeve of mine speakers using "um" while speaking. I could, however, listen to Mr. Hiddleston's "em" all day long. Great interview and amazing series, The Night Manager.
I saw it yesterday the first time and did a binge-watching-session. Today i do binge-watching youtube about him.🤣
For many people, they don't even realize they are doing it... it can take some practice to recognize and stop that... I took part in some ToastMasters (sort of like Carnegie co-op) programs, and I used to "blow up" the "ah meter" (there is someone assigned to count "crutch words" and expressions), but I think I am better now... I agree it is annoying, and I have found it surprising that many actors when they extemporize also have that problem! I guess they can deliver lines written for them, but have some trouble "composing" their words "on the fly". It takes some practice. One of the things to realize, as with music, you don't HAVE to fill every second with noise/sound. Silence can add drama!
It is called a word whisker, I had to learn not to use it. Dead air is okay.

What I noticed about Tom in many interviews is that he likes to illustrate his stories with quotes of famous people. His thoughtful answers reflect his great intellect and his expansive education from Eton to Cambridge. I feel that his intelligence and sincerity make him even more attractive than his looks alone, and oh the looks and the voice!
don't forget that he's modest, kind to his fans, funny and charitable. Nothing faulty about this human. None.

Their academic paths are not too different although not at the same time, both attended Dragon School in Oxfordshire, then moved on to Eton college, near Windsor then onto Cambridge University where they both stared in Footlights..... Both very gifted academically and theatrically. Both I could listen to forever and never tire. ❤️

@@winterswidow856 Impressive how you start sympathizing with him - almost forgetting all the terrible stuff he's been part of. No, an absolutely brilliant series. And Hugh is _delightful_ as Roper. I remember being so happy for him when he landed "House"; terrific to see a chiefly comedic actor I had loved for most of my life, take on a 'serious' (although not un-funny) role like that. And I was just as delighted, if not more so, to see him "crush it" as charming, clever and utterly reprehensible Richard Roper. So good!

I think it would be really amazing if the bond character were to be played by I woman but a lot people would probably HATE the idea. I mean look at how much negative remarks cast of the ghostbusters reboot received.

Well, he has said that he is attracted to women who are very self-assured and comfortable in their own skin. Who accepts and own their differences. He admires strength and is a huge music fan. Plus...Taylor loves to dance.

Like Hugh Laurie, I spent my formative years reading le Carre and enjoying his densely rich writing.
Rewatched the series recently after a long time. It's funny how you discover new things and details. Also how you realize that Roper can be seen as a "bad future" version of Jonathan Pine. They are like two faces of the same coin.
Tv show is brilliant! People need to watch it and think about stuff for a moment.

How on earth did Gilbert Cruz land that job at the Times? Such a juvenile and insipid interviewer. Hugh and Tom filled the space with their usual brilliance and British humor but Gilbert was far too consumed with navel gazing to connect with artists of this caliber. But wonderful to listen to Hugh and Tom!

I would never imagine Tom & Hugh are Together in a Series, I basically know Hugh in Monster vs Aliens while Tom, all I know him as Loki.
They are very similar, it's great casting Tom is essentially a young Hugh as Pine is a young Roper. Hugh could definitely have played Pine 25 years ago

Hugh Laurie was born in Oxford so he is English but his Nationality is British he could not possibly British unless he had been born in every place in the British Isles , just so you know, you don't have to be British to have that accent, it's called received pronunciation, anybody can have it if you take elocution lessons.
Its interesting they have a little screen on the floor in front of them and they keep noticing it a lot.
