To be catfishing for 12 years, it's obviously a form of escapism. When you call someone out on their addiction, they're obviously going to get mad. If you saw my family and friends trying to tell me to stop doing heroin years ago, you would have thought I was the most selfish, disgusting person. This show really exposes how the idea of someone can supercede reality. Not only the catfishers pretending to be someone they deem more ideal than themselves, but the victims who sometimes ruin real-life relationships with real people they've actually met because the idea of someone new is more appealing. In a way, cheating in general is this concept, but in a less mentally-ill sense. The grass always appears greener, and in some cases it can be. But usually it's just green astroturf, enough to fool us aesthetically, but not enough to satisfy the soil (life) underneath.
I aspire to have the level of patience and grace Kamie has when handling some of these catfish, I swear I'd just be HEATED as hell.
