Mirabel walking Antonio to his door is “not okay” because her gift didn’t work, no one knows why, so the fear is that she might jinx it for him. -If it hadn’t worked again, she’d have been blamed.
I imagine that she also thinks she "can't" emotionally. She's already being reminded of her own ceremony and fears walking down the aisle would be even worse, which is then illustrated through the walk/flashback sequence
Since it did work, everyone is happy...that she didn't mess it up. The fact that everyone but Antonio is relieved rather than thankful is the deepest hint at the family issues that the movie gives
So, I'm sure it's been mentioned but: Pepa's emotional kids: see no evil, speak no evil, hear no evil (Camilo-shapeshifts, Antonio-speaks to animals, and Dolores-hears everything). Then Julieta heals with food: beauty, brains, and brawn (Luisa-brawn, Isabela-beauty, & Mirabel-brains). Plus, Abuela has no gifts besides caring for the casita and Mirabel is going to take over...consider how the casita listens to her as well. That's why she didn't receive her door when she did. She needed to have the hardship to understand.
Know this comment is almost a year old, but just jumping in to add on. There's an Encanto novel that tells the story from the perspective of all three of the sisters (Luisa, Isabela, Mirabel). In Isabela's chapters you also learn that another reason she's jealous of/resents Mirabel is because their parents give more attention and affection to Mirabel. Obviously it happens unintentionally as a side affect of them trying to make sure that Mirabel doesn't feel less special because of her gift and Isabela knows that intellectually, but that doesn't mean it hurts her any less. She's also jealous because Mirabel recieves love unconditionally just for being herself, while Isabel feels she has to perform and play "her role" in order to be loved and worthy.
Loved this movie, great commentary. My personal theory on why Isabella doesn't like Mirabel isn't that Isa is jealous of Mirabel not having powers, but because she is jealous of Mirabel having the freedom to do whatever she wants to do. Mirabel can literally do anything she wants to do, because Abuela relies on those with powers to do everything. Isa on the other hand has had her entire life planned out for her, and doesn't get to make any of her own choices. Did you notice how much Isa looks like the younger Abuela Alma, and how much Isa's boyfriend looks like Abuelo Pedro? Alma is literally trying to force the life she was robbed of onto Isabella.
I like the detail in Bruno’s song where everyone is talking about how terrible their prophecy is except Isabela gets told that her life is perfect, “he told me that the life of my dreams would be promised and someday be mine” She seems to be an exception in the song but then we later realize how she also views this prophecy negatively since she became stuck with being perfect
If I remember correctly, in Colombia when someone says it’s gonna rain on a wedding day, it means that the marriage is not going to work, so that’s why Pepa was worried and anxious. Isabela’s problem is something big in latinoamerican culture, the first (the golden child) is always use as a reflection of a perfect family, they’re supposed to be good at everything, we get to carry a lot of responsibilities like school, work, our presence revolves on how others see us, I got a lot of psychological anxiety and trauma since I was the golden child on my family, I used to cry every time I got a bad grade (like 8 or 9 out pf 10), I was under so much pressure that now I can’t even see one imperfection because I would got anxious. Being the older one, is basically being the role model for the younger ones, so we can’t be anything but perfect, zero mistakes because if one of the younger ones does something bag, it would be of fault. PD: Sorry for the typos, my English sucks.
I was the golden child of my family, but in this case I'm the youngest; I felt like I had to do everything they couldn't, not get into troubles, do good in school, help in house, all those things my brothers never worried about, and that obviously includes be able to get into a public university, my senior year in high school was a nightmare (but I passed, thanks God!) But in results I have depression since 12 (In 2023 I'll make 19) and later I also acquired anxiety... So yeah...
good reaction. yeah i believe Mirabel didn't get a door because she got the house in essence. She will be the new abuela, in charge of the wellbeing of the family and the keeper of the magic which basically lives in her now rather than the candle. - I always thought Isabela gift was supposed to be more USEFUL but she got pigeon hold into just being the perfect pretty one making pretty things. You know how useful a person who can control plants would be in an agrarian society. The magic must have been like "I gave you someone who can ensure you never go hungry and you got her making pretty flowers"
Her gift is definitely connection to the house like her grandmother and additionally empathy... If you think about the grandmother is about to be a great grandmother.. her death is on the way and the house produces a person to replace her ... The other thing is that it's a common perception that in order to heal trauma you have to have first hand experience
"She's the family therapist." I've been saying that's her power. Also, if you look carefully when Dolores sings during "We Don't Talk About Bruno", you can see him in the background.
@@mrkamenwatch If you listen closely to Dolores' lyrics during We Don't Talk About Bruno, you'll notice a lot of it is in present tense instead of past tense e.g. "I can always hear him sort of muttering and mumbling/ I associate him with the sound of falling sand" and later "I can hear him now" (while others are singing so it gets drowned out).

I've watched this movie so many times and I always cry. War trauma is a very real and horrible thing. My grandmother was a girl during WW2 and it messed her up so much, and it carries on through the generations. Those of us that haven't lived it can't even imagine what it's like but she has given me some idea with the few stories she's told.
As far as I know Louisa isn't the oldest sister. Isabela is. And Casita has nothing to do with the castle in Beauty and the Beast. 😅 That was just a castle. Only the furniture and stuff were people who were transformed. But Casita isn't a transformed human. It's just Casita. Some people think that Pedros soul might give life to Casita.
This movie is so relatable. Anyone from a large family can understand the pressure of trying to live up to family legacies. But I like how it shows you don't need to have powers to help. And the importance of actually talking about your problems and not bottling up your emotions. Also appreciating everyone in your life because family is truly the best gift of all. And if you have a problem with your family you need to talk about and face your problems.

The hardest part of my healing journey, in healing from childhood trauma, is dismissing the need to hear admission or get an apology from those who have hurt me deepest. For most, that doesn't happen. In my case my parents are a little narcissistic and don't believe anything they did was wrong or they're too blinded by things that happened to them. I need to not put my own healing on hold waiting on an apology that won't come. Waiting for them to see what they did that hurt me. It won't come.
The story is from Colombia and takes inspiration from many parts and times in it's past. I am not from Colombia so I am no expert but I have been learning as much as i can because my fiancee is from Colombia and i enjoy learning the history of her people. Some of the places shown are inspired by real places like Caño Cristales, it is the colorful river where the miracle happened. There are many points in the history of Colombia that the displacement can take reference from and unfortunately the people of the country are still dealing with that kind of stuff happening
I have a theory: Mirabel’s gift is illusions! Hear me out, every time Mirabel sings or anyone sings around her, it bends reality! So it shows what she’s imagining! And she DOES have a door! There’s just the illusion that it disappeared!
I believe that when Abuela ghasps, when Mirabel says "... because of YOU!", and her eyes get big, she is having a sudden flash of insight, and her denial is gone in that moment. It reminds me of the time in The Lord of the Rings books, when Bilbo and Frodo meet again in Rivendell, and Billbo is tempted by the ring once more. He sees the look on Frodo's face and understands in a flash how he had been blind to the ring's influence, up until that moment. Oddly, the same thing happens to Sauron when Frodo claims the ring at Mount Doom. He realizes his blindness about his enemy's tactics in a sudden flash of insight.
The location is definitely Colombia, but as for the timeframe that is more debatable. There's 3 possibilities though: La Guerra de Los Mil Dias/War of a Thousand Days(1899-1902) La Violencia/The Violence(1948-1958) The Columbian Internal Conflict(1964 to Present)
This is Colombia. The hardships are based in history and exist to this day. Marauders tormented the villagers to take over. The themes of flowers and butterflies, are deeply rooted in Colombian culture. Nobel Prize winning author Gabriel Garcia Marquez features these symbols in his novels and films as "magical realism". All of the animals are endemic to Colombia and parts of Central and South America. Isabela is the eldest sister. Luisa is the strong middle sister.

Those of us that haven't lived it can't even imagine what it's like but she has given me some idea with the few stories she's told.
Yeah for sure, I can't imagine...
Nice! That's good to know! Thank you for helping me understand!
Exactly! I 100% agree with this!
16:21 it was at this point where the dad almost cussed in Spanish but he was a good father and decided on a word that sounded similar but it’s not a cuss word.
It rained at the end of my outdoor viking wedding. Its considered good luck (even more so because we had been having a drought).
Hurricanes on the other hand i think are considered a sign from the gods. But the bride herself made it so we probably cant look at it as a good or bad luck thing
Ohhh okay, that's so cool!
"That's why the house is breaking! There's a man doing Parkour in the walls!" 🤣🤣 this comment was epic and I laughed sm! 🙏❤👍
Thanks for the great reaction! 😊🙏💕

You cracked me up so much, accent om point too! 😂😂😂
HAHA thank you!
Did this happen in history? : Yes! It's actually kind of interesting, you see-
And let me know if the magic house and divine mountains happened in history. : ...can't confirm?
lol :)
Really lovely, thoughtful reaction! I enjoyed your gentle compassionate attitude, your sly humor, your references and the snippets you edited in. You've got a new subscriber!
For more Lin Manuel in his natural environment, if you haven't seen Hamilton on Disney+, that's a reaction I'd really enjoy. Either a full reaction on Patreon or whatever, or a song by song reaction edited for copyright would be welcomed by existing Hamilfans. (There's lots of good advice out there for new Hamilton reactors, if that interests you!)
Thank you so much! That is so kind! I haven't seen Hamilton and it is definitely something I want to do on the channel in some form or another!
@@mrkamenwatch yes!! hamilton is so good and really well written id love to see u react to it
@@klosux 100% in the plans for the future!
Yeah i 100% agree with this! Honestly respect for going on this journey that is certainly not easy!
Oooo that's an interesting concept! I like that!
Oh interesting, I like that! And I love the LotR reference!
The location is definitely Colombia, but as for the timeframe that is more debatable.
There's 3 possibilities though:
La Guerra de Los Mil Dias/War of a Thousand Days(1899-1902)
La Violencia/The Violence(1948-1958)
The Columbian Internal Conflict(1964 to Present)
Thank you for the history info!
Would love an Inside Out reaction if you haven't watched that one. One of the best animated movies that exists.
I've seen Inside out! I cry every time I watch that one lol
I loved sharing one of my favorite movies with you. I'm 57 years old and have all the Funko Pop characters from this movie. My own family shuns me because I left their doomsday cult, so this movie really connected with me. You have a great voice and awesome empathy. I feel like I'm watching my favorite movies with a new friend that notices and appreciates my favorite parts.
Congratulations for getting out, that takes a lot of strength and bravery
Thank you for the kind words as well!
12:00 Yeah, but she's not even the oldest. She's the middle child which is.... kind of worse because you're already overlooked by default.
Yeah i get that, thanks for giving me accurate background for the characters!
a little late here but i just found this through searching for encanto and this was a cozy and funny reaction! i'll be subscribing and watching movies along with you from time to time! very good vibes here~
Thank you so much! Welcome!!
If you ask me, Mirabels gift is breaking generational trauma. I am working hard to do that myself
I agree! and that's really awesome, it's so important!
Oh sweet summer child this is movie is definitely not based in history but I did hear that the conflict that starts the movie was based on something that actually happened in Colombia which places the timeline somewhere in the 1950s
lol, that "miercoles" (it's a reference to another word that starts with mier but ends in da) just kind of a "nicer" way of saying that word lol
I like your point of view, I've seen several reactions to this movie, and yours is one of my top favorites
Aw Thank you so much!
Eyyyy you lived in Peru!? Hope you loved our food!! Always love hearing of people that appreciate our country 🇵🇪❤️
Viva Perú!
Arroz Chaufa and Tacacho con Cecina! My favorites!
Love this movie, one of my absolute favorites! Great reaction, you’re very funny. I also want to know what the Platypus’ say!
Also, Delores did tell people she could hear him. She talked about rats in the walls, and mentioned it in the song We Don’t Talk About Bruno. No one really takes it seriously though bc they think he’s long gone. Plus ya know, there’s the crazy theory she’s evil, and didn’t make more of an effort to let people know on purpose.
@@stephaniehundley6792 Thank you so much! Oooo that's an interesting theory! Thanks for shedding some light on stuff I missed!
From what I have heard, Encanto, the time period of Colombia is believed to be set during the mid 20th century, when political turmoil and such led to bloodshed of civilians and such
okay! Thanks for clarifying for me!
Dolores' gift is really a nightmare... She has 2 younger siblings and 2 or 3 younger cousins and she heard all of them being conceived...
lol i don't want to think about that for too long...😂
You throwing random Harry Potter references in there was the best. 🤣🤣
haha thanks!
Loved this reaction! Just found you and subscribed because of your emotional understanding and emotional maturity involved in doing a deep dive into the generational trauma and kindness as baselines for this particular movie. For the same themes (coupled with action and absurdity as well,) I humbly suggest "Everything Everywhere All At Once."
Thank you so much! I'm flattered and I hope I can keep maturing emotionally and showing that on camera haha. I have seen EEAAO and it was spectacular!
@@mrkamenwatch Honestly, never hide your emotions, on camera or off. Empathy is the most important thing you can cultivate. I'm so glad to hear you've already watched EEAAO. That was a super emotional movie for so many people. I wish you the best and look forward to more of your reactions.

“I’m perfect” “no your stressed”
hahaha!
Your analysis at the end reminded me a lot of the poem "This Be The Verse" by Philip Larkin. If you want to see an underrated Disney musical that features a young Christian Bale, you should watch the 1992 movie "Newsies".
I'll have to read that poem! What movie is that?
@@mrkamenwatch Newsies is about the newsboys strike of 1899, it's about the newsboys of New York forming a union and forcing the papers to lower the price and buy back papers that aren't sold for a lower price.
Really enjoyed the reaction!

Cassita chose Mirabel as the next matriarch. The next in line to watch over La Casa Madrigal.
I never thought of it that way when watching, but I think that is so awesome!

It's based in Columbia. During the Era of the Spanish inquisition I think.
Would make sense. The invaders had horses. Which at the time horses had been extinct in the America's for a long time

“It’s a Seinfeld reference for any of my younger viewers” you say this as if I don’t live with a 16 year old brother who watches Seinfeld on repeat.
oh for sure there's still some younger people in to the classics, but still probably many more not as familiar. That's awesome though that they are!
