I'm with you all the way, too many talentless Bro Country artists today singing meaningless songs ! I'm singing all these songs at karaoke and keeping the songs and memories alive! All the best from Adelaide South Australia with love ! ❤❤❤❤❤
I wonder the same thing. I really miss this sound of real country music on the radio and CMT. I heard a recent song the other day by some talentless artist and just shook my head in disgust
She's not trying to be cool, she's not trying to look sexy or dance like a moron.. This is just awesome, classic country music. Glad these songs will never die.
look!!!........im a man and Mary was the inspiration behind all of my artwork!!!........and I'm doing my first international tour of my Devine famine art ......mary is one of the true geniuses in music of all kinds........she can do it all.........sings like a bird!..........plays awesome guitar.........and is now in the country music songwriters hall of fame...........she is it!!!..........and there will never be one again like her.........ENJOY!!!.........for she is gods gift to the universe!...............................matthewericsonphotography.com
I remember riding around with my girlfriend back then listening to this, dipping my Kodiak and couldn't wait to marry her and us starting a family. That is what this song reminds me of. Gosh I miss those times so bad.
It's been 30 odd years since this was in heavy rotation on TNN. I fell in love with her look, her songwriting, her style.....everything. I ordered the CD, almost played it to pieces, called local county stations and URGED them to play this future SUPERSTAR. They utterly ignored me. Vindication proved sweet.
Mary Chapin Carpenter. She can single handedly whoop the asses of many of these so called "country" artists today. Total class act, great songwriter. Miss you Mary Chapin...
Dave Jones, thank you! Country Music has changed so much, it seems to me that artists like Mary Chapin Carpenter got shoved off to the side. She is a brilliant songwriter, one of the best in my opinion!
You wonder why songs like this that are brilliantly written and performed do not reach that number one slot on the charts. She is one of the best! I met her in the early 1990's on Capitol Hill. She was so friendly and talked to me like I was her best friend! Very nice! I don't listen to country music that often, but certain songs like this you just can't help but listen to!

When this song came out I instantly was a fan... what talent..beauty.. All of her songs are as special as the next. I so wish her all the best and All the happiness she deserves
WOw, 32 years ago. I was 26 when this was out and though MCC , with that 80s hairstyle, was the cutest , most talented newer singer out back then. Never got tired of this video.
Probably the best song of an incredible career, that somehow despite all the success, never really got to where it looked like it was going to reach....co-written with her awesome producer John Jennings.....I have never tired of listening to it
This song has everything, it's a great story song, its lyrics are relatable, and it's got a melody that between Mary Chapin Carpenter's voice, and the band behind her it blazes like a fire. She's written so many great songs it's impossible to pick a handful but this one's a big favourite of mine. Well done Mary!!!
Robert, Love MCC for many years, but never knew this song. My new favorite. The music is upbeat, the emotion is downbeat. You are so right: the band is on FIRE. Peace.
This is my favorite Mary Chapin Carpenter song. My favorite line in this song is, "When she burns you again and your phone doesn't ring--Bay-bee, it's me." ROTF. We miss you, Mary Chapin Carpenter!!!!
There's not a single song MCC has written that I don't like. She pours her heart and soul into every single one of them. My only regret is that for the last 20+ years, I've been so busy working and raising children that I lost track of her. Trying to make up for lost time quickly. Love her and her music!
I absolutely wore this cassette tape out and then put scotch tape over the tape and kept right on playing it. This song was such a huge part of my life. I cant even begin to tell you how many times i had this song on repeat!! More than i could ever count. Reminds me of me and my new wife at the time running the streets in Knoxville TN. Man times were so much more simple back then but so great!! I sure miss those times! Thank you Mary for the great memories.
I remember it fondly. None of the gang of stoops ever heard of it. It got me through a very difficult relationship I relationship. Life can get real hard for a man as well. Thank you ,Mary. Yours truly,Donovan Lee Olson Jr. Keep up the good work.
Mary Chapin Carpenter has always been in my top five of female Country artist. I can't put my finger on it but ... there's something about her that reminds me of one of the girlfriends I had in High school... like she's the one that I should have gotten to know better ... but was afraid to ... because I didn't deserve her! It's not a bad feeling ... it's a "Proud" feeling I get ... like ... " Wow, I actually had a girl like that ... interested in ME ... and I didn't want to believe it ... LOL! ( ... and it's not like I was someone that was undesirable ... but it was ... in High school... I was a member of a local Country music dance band in my hometown... so I had plenty of girls to choose from... if I could only stop thinking about playing my guitar 24/7 ... that was my girl ... and what held my interest... LOL! ) 😎
Saw her live in Melbourne Australia with my husband in the 90's, absolutely fabulous show, no bells and whistles, just MCC--her voice and guitar and minimal backing.
This song is so fitting on so many levels.. when you have a cheating spouse, it's like rubbing their nose in it... Been there, done that, got that hat, T-shirt and socks. Burned them all.
I just have to come back to this song now and then; borrowed the tape from a friend back in '91 (State of the Heart album) and kept rewinding to this song..."Quittin' Time was good, too. Have liked this video since I first saw it; Mary truly looks hurt, and I want to give her a hug.
Song always seemed to be playing on US99 in Chicago, late at night. My ex wife and I would lay in bed listening to this. A sexy Jamaican girl into country music. Gotta love it.
Just be yourself. Live your best for God. He's the only one you really can please with your life and love. Be who He made you to be. Love this song...pray to our great God. He knows this tune better than anyone. Be yourself ! Don't allow anyone to take away the love in your heart. This is a beautiful song by a woman with a beautiful voice.
MCC is so beyond the hacks at country music radio-they will keep playing classics like "She Thinks My Tractors Sexy and "Beer for my Horses. How could she compete?
Mary I'll will listen to you always. Me and my wife absolutely love you. I don't care what these people say. Negative thoughts is not in the dictionary in my book. All positive. You will always be in my hall of fame. Love ya
This song brings back many memories. My first year of college staying behind in the facility long after school hours for my choir. Walking the empty halls and getting some food out of the vending machine...and listening to this song over the intercom speakers. Seemed like it always was on every week. Loved it and fell in love with MCC especially when she did '10,000 Miles' for 'Fly Away Home'
My first introduction to MCC came when this song came on the radio. I've been hooked ever since. next year I will be 30 years since i heard this song. Wow!
Amazing! I seen her in concert a number of times, my dad loves her. This song has always been one of my favorites. She has so many great songs! What a legend❤️
This song, MIDDLE GROUND and YOU WIN AGAIN really told my story in the 90s. I am sure this is true of so many women of my generation. She is a brilliant song writer.
Why can't country music be like this in 2024 ? Who's with me ?
I’m with you!
Look up Alex Key
Because the people playing it aren’t nearly as talented as MCC! That’s why!
I'm with you all the way, too many talentless Bro Country artists today singing meaningless songs ! I'm singing all these songs at karaoke and keeping the songs and memories alive! All the best from Adelaide South Australia with love ! ❤❤❤❤❤
So agree 💯
Now this is music. Not that shit they call country music today. This is the music I grew up with. Love it.
"You're out of my life now..." we all know that pain
Congress should've played this song when they expelled George Santos last December.
How did country radio go from this to the autotune garbage they play today. i wish i had a time machine
fully agree.
Me too.
I wonder the same thing. I really miss this sound of real country music on the radio and CMT. I heard a recent song the other day by some talentless artist and just shook my head in disgust
It’s called the systematic dismantling of America. You might know it as WOKE. No exceptionalism allowed, everything equally sucks.
She was GREAT in concert, she had a ball on stage, great band
She's not trying to be cool, she's not trying to look sexy or dance like a moron.. This is just awesome, classic country music. Glad these songs will never die.

Are you saying MCC isn't sexy?
It's not really a happy dance song when she heads on over to the twist and shout she dances doesn't make her a "moron".
@@scottsnelgrove8446 think you know what I mean. There are ladies who are sexy, and there are ones who try looking sexyx
@@Erix7810 I understand. She just looks so natural; like she is genuinely having a good time with her music.
Just letting everyone know I'm still listening after all these years!!! One of my favorite songs ever!!!
This is the song I could imagine myself listening to while driving on Rt. 66 somewhere in New Mexico.
These 90's Artists are so much more talented than todays country. Todays Country sucks
also 80's artists - Barbara Mandrell a musician, she played 7 different instruments!
I love 80s and early to mid 90s country. I agree today's country (if you can call it that) is the pits
I remember listening to country in the late '80s/early '90s somewhat regularly. Haven't had it on a preset in my vehicle for years now...
Todays country is not even country that’s the sad part
Country music use to be sooo good.
I'm 55, and this song reminds me of my youth. I love this song.
Me too buddy
I remember riding around with my girlfriend back then listening to this, dipping my Kodiak and couldn't wait to marry her and us starting a family. That is what this song reminds me of. Gosh I miss those times so bad.
I bet you remember Perfect strangers too! You have the right to remain silent was one of my favorites back then.
Why cant country music be like this again?
This song was a hallmark for me growing up. So many memories.... 💜💜💜
Great singer and great composer ❤
"When your phone doesn't ring, It's me Babe! : Amazing writing.
This song is a Hallmark of country music.

What an amazing talent. It's a shame that today's female country singers are so pale in comparison to her.
The Flow of this song is just Fantastic ! well done !

This is surreal, it's so good! Incredible. It hits me right in the heart, and carries me away. Therapeutic.
A masterpiece of a song. It cuts right to the bone. Love some Chapin.
This is one of my favorite songs. I admired her classy style, nothing fancy, kinda plain Jane but beautiful as hell. And she sounds so dang good!

I was her in this song a few years ago.
This is real country music I love this song science I first heard it back in the 90s
This song and her voice makes me cry.
Genre wise this really wasn’t country or even country rock. This was more like “alternative pop rock”.

Easily one of the best songwriters EVER!!! BAR NONE.
