    I'm embarrassed by this interviewer, asking him about boy George and all kinds of crap that has nothing to do with him this man was the coolest cat I ever saw! one of the all time greatest singer/ bandleader/ entertainers in the business, and he was gracious, and polite even through this awful interview.

    • @jrthmc29
      @jrthmc29 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Same. Rather than asking anything engaging during the interview. It was as though the interviewer was fishing for some fashion type drama, drama that simply didn't exist .
      "What's your opinion on Little Richard?"
      "What's your opinion about how Cher and her clothing choices?"
      ".....Prince?"
      "...Bowie?"
      "... boy George?
      FfS the man was a entertainer. CAB WAS SO MICH MORE THAN A ZOOT SUIT, good grief.

    I have admired Cab since my late father introduced me to his music in the 60s - my father was a semi-pro clarinet / sax player from the 1930s, I loved Cab's flamboyance and life as an entertainer. Black American musicians were and still are so cool. Initially, I nearly ended watching this, because I felt the interviewer was almost putting words into Cab's mind and mouth, without letting him roll.....if you guys know what I mean.

    I've never seen an interview with Cab and he carries himself quite well. Perhaps there's more interviews, but seems weird to talk to an absolute musical legend and spend the whole time talking about what he wore. Dude led some incredible musicians and ruled the stage for many years. His musical influence affected musicians for decades.

  • @Bigwave2003

    Cab knew this interview was a train wreck. The interviewer made it all about her: asking Cab to react to her personal taste. All those questions about contemporary rock stars he didn't know were a waste. At the end when she wraps it up and says the interview brought out a lot of good stuff, Cab smirks and says, "You think so?"

      Just here for the comments. I paused the vid at about 20 seconds. Mr. Calloway and his family did a great interview with Edward R. Murrow. It’s on TH-cam. This was such a wasted opportunity and a LOUSY interviewer.

      @@geerowr.6666 You have to be kidding! That Murrow interview was so scripted it would be offensive if it weren't just the state of things at the time. There is zero spontaneity and they may as well all be on stage performing roles. This footage may not be pretty, but it's the real deal.
      The better interview is the "Day at Night" one with James Day.

    • @geerowr.6666
      @geerowr.6666 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@awo1fman You must be related to this horror of a hack interviewer. Murrow's piece was what his network told him to do. At least he knew how to listen after he asked a question. Murrow did several interviews with other celebrities. He hated doing them all, because he was a serious newsman who had covered WWII. YOU on the other hand are delusional.

    • @awo1fman
      @awo1fman 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@geerowr.6666 LOL you're an idiot. This was test footage, not the real interview. That's why the interviewer wasn't miked up and why they did the extreme close-up to focus the lens. They did them individually and this was just Calloway's part. Somebody ran across the footage in archives and decided it was worth releasing because it shows him unguarded and unscripted, unlike anything else you're likely to see.
      The Murrow interview was terrible, regardless of what you think about either man. It's flat and weird and there's no humanity.
      Like I said, if you want to see a good interview of Calloway then watch the Day at Night one.

    I don't like this interviewer at all. She's just asking questions and is not in jibe with Cab at all! He starts to warm up and mentions he had a number of Zoot Suits and one of them was even green, which would have been really out there, and he laughs a little knowing how ridiculous a green zoot would be and she doesn't reciprocate with him at all about that detail and goes right into the next question. You can hear in her voice that she's got no connection with him or what he's saying. She's just there to fire questions at him. I agree with some one else, she probably didn't even know who he was. Probably just watched a few clips on TH-cam or read a few articles of Google at best. She doesn't seem to be excited or eager to meet him and digs his music. What a shame.
    Man, what a wasted interview. I had a hard time sticking with it, it was painful to watch. I only did it because I wanted to hear Cab's voice talk and he was dressed pretty snazzy, as always.

    I say he influenced Salsa music more then anything else. Salsa is a mixture of Americans Jazz and west African rhythms. Early Salsa artist took ideas from American Jazz performers from the 1930's Like Can Callaway. Cab Callaway would yell out something and then his band would yell out a verse behind him. Salsa bands to this day still to that. Cab Callaway was doing that in the before Salsa music was invnted.

    The man did much much more than only fashion! These questions are not creative at all. You can feel from his short answers that he's bored and rightfully so.
