The Rosary is a devotion that leads us to meditate on the events of Jesus’ life and passion. Through the Rosary, Mary brings us closer to her divine Son. She wraps her loving mantle around us as her own children guiding us to the arms of our Lord and protecting us from the wicked snares of the devil.
Based on scripture, the Rosary begins with The Apostles' Creed summarizing the great mysteries of the Catholic faith. The Our Father, which introduces each mystery, is from the Gospels. The first part of the Hail Mary is the angel's words announcing Christ's birth and Elizabeth's greeting to Mary. The second part of the prayer was officially added by St. Pius V. The Mysteries of the Rosary center on the events of Christ's life. There are four sets of Mysteries: Joyful, Sorrowful, Glorious and the Luminous, which was added by Saint John Paul II in 2002.
