I am a native southern Californian. Hubby and I lived in Oceanside for several years, and I had relatives in Carlsbad. As for the weather -- I still miss that. We relocated to the inland northwest, Idaho to be exact. While I've adjusted to having several feet of snow in April, and sometimes minus 40F in winter up here, my heart still loves the mild temperatures of SoCal. For me, that is a positive, not a con.
As for the cost, well, Carlsbad is an elitist community. And Oceanside was becoming very stuck-up and snooty in the five or so years just before we left, from 1990 onward. One reason we left was because I was beginning to feel alienated in my own home state. And yes, it's very expensive to live in Carlsbad.
I did enjoy the Carlsbad Mall (Plaza Camino Real) while we were living in Oceanside, but rarely bought anything there due to the high prices. That mall was gorgeous around the Christmas holidays, and I liked it because it's covered and sheltered from the elements. We left the state in mid-1995, and it was still somewhat bustling at that time.
Tourists? That's normal for SoCal. It's a popular tourist area, and we took that for granted, and in our stride.
Traffic congestion -- Interstate 5 is a major freeway running north and south, and 78 a major freeway running east and west. At around 3 P.M. every day, 5 becomes a parking lot. My brother still lives down there, and he knows the best and worst times to travel the interstates. Those of us who've lived down there know the alternate routes and we often took advantage of them.
I do love the videos of the scenery you show with your commentary. Very familiar to me. I recognized much of it instantly.
Thanks for posting this. To this native SoCal gal, the only real con of that area is the stuck-up elitist attitude, and now the area is probably crawling with illegal immigrants. I notice you didn't touch on the crime rate in today's Carlsbad. Perhaps you can post a future video covering that.

If you’re in the military you can’t afford Carlsbad or really anywhere in San Diego County.

Wow is it really that expensive? I am in the military and I earn 240K a year and with my tax benefit is more like 258K a year. Coupled with my wife's income and our rental income make close to 400K a year. I though we could afford something.
