I do wonder if the absent feeling of the rest of the party is actually on purpose, even if that does hurt the spinoff stand alone. That it shows Megumin with Kazuma and crew has found exactly where she needs to be.
Long comment warning for context and adaptation changes.
For context, KonoBakuen was written before book 5/the movie (old Konosuba LN quality), so a lot of your issues are because of anime original stuff from Konosuba’s anime adaptation affecting KonoBakuen (stuff is cut from the movie and the other seasons and some stuff was stolen from KonoBakuen, because they didn’t think they would animate it, despite not being in the book and this was also the case for the non-canon OVAs.) The prequel is full of fanservice and foreshadowing, but because the thing it foreshadows was animated first and showed stuff you weren’t supposed to know yet, some like you feel disappointed, since you were technically spoiled. Highly recommend reading the LN of KonoBakuen and the Konosuba LNs because a bunch of jokes and references have less impact because of the entire anime adaptation (the anime doubles down on the comedy, while the LNs have tense and risqué moments and full of dark comedy and so much important Kazuma backstory, like the NTR moment, Kazuma and Megumin romance moments, and Kazuma moments in general, are cut.) Yun Yun is meant to be more important here, because she just gets bullied in the main series and you don’t learn more about her unless you read KonoBakuen and Continued! KonoBakuen. There’s a monster called Rookie Killer/Slayer/Beginner’s Bane, who has already appeared in Konosuba 2 other times, but the anime first shows it in KonoBakuen (this monster was fought when Kazuma and Dust swapped parties and Kazuma carried his new party, gaining friends in Rin, Taylor, and Keith and Dust got humiliated with Kazuma’s former party promptly defeated and the other time in Alcanretia, when Wiz no-selled it and ko’d it by Drain Touching it instantly and protecting Kazuma and Megumin.) KonoBakuen can also be viewed as a transitional season, as this is closer to how Konosuba is in the LNs and the next season is pretty serious and dark (which is basically all of the Darkness focused books, because of M and NTR.) So I can see many not liking Season 3, for the same complaints in KonoBakuen, because these complaints were also in Combatants Will be Dispatched and Season 3 borrows from it’s predecessor, despite it being good. 2:00 - In the first popularity poll, Megumin was leagues above everyone and the second and third places were characters with little to no screentime (Aqua, Kazuma, and Darkness aren’t in the Top 3) and Eris is one of those two (the other appears next season and steals the show.)
The other spin-offs (and series in their universe) are in the same way as KonoBakuen, because the author doesn’t make them all the same, despite similar genres. This allows the author to appeal to other kinds of demographics and take risks (this series has been trending in Japan the whole time and people who don’t like Konosuba, like KonoBakuen more, because of it’s slice of life and the Crimson Demons.) KonoBakuen is more focused on the worldbuilding and the consequences of Megumin’s actions, which builds up and is important for the future. 6:02 - That’s the Konosuba author for you. Megumin is meant to drive Yun Yun forward, not the other way around and this is intended because she resembles Kazuma, her other half (revealed in the movie/book 5, when she claims Kazuma as her man and that she likes him, while promising to give him Valentine’s Day chocolate) as both are foils/supplementary to the other characters and makes them better in the story (without Megumin’s antics, Yun Yun would’ve stayed forgotten by her village and never left it.) The gacha is also well loved and many love/know Cecily, Host, and Arue more because of it (I don’t recommend, because a character’s entire plot for season 3 gets spoiled and is meant for people who read the LNs as one of the OCs is connected to the new subplot next season.) Also, none of the characters are new, like Cecily, Wolbach, and Zesta, except for the two demon servants, Rex, and Nerimaki (minor extras voiced by well-known VAs don’t count.) Also, while it may not seem like it, there are things you probably don’t realize is important for more Konosuba (like Megumin freeing two Dark Gods and one being the sister of the Dark God Zenarith in Combatants, establishing the shared universe and/or multiverse?)
In my opinion Yunyun and Megumin carries the Show it's not so bad
True
Yeah, if you like Yunyun then this show is definitely a watch for you
The show contradicts the story, based on what was presented in this spin off, megumin didn't even need companions and yunyun had friends
@@luksalter8200 What do you mean ? By the end of the spinoff, Yunyun is still looking for a party and Megumin joins Kazuma's party.
@@slavishentity6705 nah yunyun had friends unlike what megumin said in the anime, she could form a team with them if she wanted, besides that konosuba made it seem like megumin had no choice while in the spin-off she had yunyun besides being known for killing the demon
I didn't think I'd like Konosuba so when I found myself thoroughly enjoying it, I wondered why. I figured I liked it because of the group not because of any one individual character (except maybe Darkness I'd love to know why she is the way she is). I like Megumin, fine but I've wanted to see more of Yunyun, so thanks, I'll have to check out the spin-off
Hope you enjoy it! It’s been great for yunyun
@@414AnimeI know i did!❤❤❤❤❤
Regarding Darkness, that’s the joke. There is no reason, she just realized she was a masochist one day, as her dad was nice and gave her freedom, despite being a noble with duties (all mentioned in Season 2 and why Kazuma felt bad for him, because the dad’s just a good dad and he gets beat up by his own daughter.)
@@cranesilentlyplays8084 its a great joke, though I'm curious about Darkness as a person
This is the story of megumin before she joined kazuma party
I mainly miss sad backstory of megumin that she almost always starved and that she have it rough and this series just show wholesome story without depth ... and yeah i also feel yunyun more of main character than megumin
It is what I expected. Not disappointed. I will explain my reasoning. I expected this to be a way to flush out some of the backstory mentioned in the movie and to develop both Yunyun and her past relationship with Megamin. I expect that Yunyun might now be part of the group going forward. Kazuma and Megamin seem to have developing character arcs in parallel, so I did not expect massive growth or events previously since Kazuma has had so little.
As far as comedy, the way the group plays off each other is what really works. Therefore, my feeling is that backstory is taken care of so that Yunyun can now be a normal part of that interplay and we understand her motivation as well as the way her and Megamin feel about each other. (Since they often hide it) this also lines up with my expectation. I guess I did not expect it to be mind blowing. Just filling out before next season.
🗿
It took me a couple of episodes to kind of understand what the series felt like it was going for, it's definitely more tame in plot and events, but I think I came to appreciate it, not to mention it shows what having those sort of reliable characters mean. I think its fine to have a different flow than the main series because after all they are leaving out the 3 other main characters. I still agree though that yunyun development has been more apparent than megumin's.
I might be the only one who liked it because it focused on her story and didn't need a Terminator 2 "I'll Be Back" catch phrase in every episode (or movie) to carry the show. Most "prequels" should just be the story about the focused character and then bring them into the fold at the end like the way Episode 11 and hopefully the finale. I hope they do the same for the other characters.
That is why I try to avoid Trailers, Sneak Peeks, Spoilers, and overall other people's opinion on something new I consider watching, because you go into something with a expectation based on someone else or even your self can setup a very high bar that in some cases can be so high that almost nothing will ever meet or beat that bar. In My opinion, I always prefer to go into something with as little knowledge as possible beforehand and just enjoy it for what it is and not expect it to meet or beat something else even an expectation that one self could create.
I agree with this. negative feedback should be given is it did not give everything in the original source material. I have not read it so I can't give negative feedback. But the show is good.
Thanks for not spoiling anything in this my good sir. It was a nice personal breakdown of the season that didn’t go into too much detail and I appreciated that.
While yes, not having the dynamic with Kazuma and the rest of the party might've played a part in the lackluster spin-off. I believe the main problem was having a completely different director. Kanasaki, the director of the main series, always managed to get that whacky quirky flare. He even made Princess Connect more Konosuba-like than this one. Or maybe even his classic before Konosuba which was Kore wa Zombie desu ka? Meanwhile the director for this one, Abe, Yuujirou, has nothing to his name and the show was just trying hard to be funny and wasn't landing. It definitely wasn't from the writing but more so the execution. And quite frankly I'm scared that he's handling season 3.
Can't wait for season 3 (and possibly season 4). Some important plot scenes will be a little confusing if they not adapted the spin-off. Kadokawa greenlighted the spin-off, so season 4 is definitly coming, it just the matter of when it will air.
I like this anime and its not mid its pog if you read the novel and it good
And also this is the story of megumin not kasuma
I agree 100%. Megumin shines as a side character. As a MC she's so blandd
Ongod.
Leave it to Kazuma as the main MC.
Stop da spinoffs plz.
I like the 4 of them together. Without 1 of them, it's like eating a burger without the lettuce, cheese, and patty.
It's a backstory, what did u expect

YEEES! I love konosuba! Thanks for making these videos man! Youre the best!😊😊😊😊❤❤❤❤
for a light novel adaptation the megumin spin off is great on its own
As every adaptation of LN it glances over many scenes, lines and eventually jokes. The most clear example is the fact that Alcanretia gets soo much more time compared to spin-off's Alcanretia part. Same as introduction of Wiz, creators had for some reason cut on screen time which is extremely depressing from LN enjoyer which wants to see the words in picture.
I disagree with this 100%.
Its not "disappointing" at all as it feels in gaps that are otherwise unfilled.
So you can dislike it all you want, but i liked that they focused on best girl and gave the other 3 a rest.
Blah blah. It's disappointing
i have to agree with you a lot about this spin off series. if i had to think about the story in regards for the audience, the 1 thing everyone was wanting to see was when she learned explosion. but story wise it makes a lot of scene what they did. they ticked a lot of boxes that we got told happen to Megumin, like when Yunyun learned magic to protect Megumin and her sister. and with the current episodes she went to other adventures before meeting Kazuma and the others. there were so much more they could do, but instead they tried to stretch a story to 2 episodes when they didn't need to. like we could have had a episode going into her poor condition and see her snacking off to get food like we saw in season 2 with that crystal ball scene in wiz's shop. but over all i wouldn't say its bad, just mid, they did good with what they had, and in a way we got some answers about megumin and yunyun that we got in konosuba.
It’s not stretched, it’s the same as the LNs (they actually cut some stuff and the important stuff was cut in the movie and the anime, so it doesn’t have a bigger impact, because the previous seasons didn’t think the foreshadowing was that important, like Zesta or Soketto’s sacrifice in the movie/LN5.)
i oryginally ditched it because it was boring
yea i see why i ditched it
i came back later to finish it and it wasnt bad
I've watched this show with my friends. We were all bored out of our wits. Has a lot of unfunny characters, disappointing subplots, and the animation is not on point, it is obviously underbudget compare to the mainline story. Thanks for wasting my time Megumin. I've rather waste my time watching My Dress-up Darling.
@@AVGJ3859 there is actually a second megumin spin off that takes place after volume 7/season 3 if i remember correctly
so the chance is there but how high the % are? its a mystery but its probably below 30% or so
but remember mate its better than nothing
Almost like there’s three other main characters that the fans miss.
After the spin-off series i ship 🚢 Megumin x Yunyun they are just so cute together
At least we got to c alot more of Kazuma and Aqua in the current eposide that aired today (EP 11). Can take that as alittle dub
Got a bit of laughs
Oh let’s go!

hello can i bother you with a question, have you seen "Brand New Animal" if so can u do a video about it...but only after you watched...(sorry i asked here i don't really know other way of contact you), anyway if you try or not it depends on you!
Reading it i actually think its a neat spinoff, but its just that... Its just a tame backstory, its just the fights on arcs of the main series is so grand, the teamwork, banters, fails, and manymore seems to be missing... For example aqua just bombarded the destroyer with her sacred break spell, megumin's and wiz explosion, cool darness standing there while the destroyer is being ptut down... Damn its just so grand that the duel of arnes and megumin cant compare... I feel that its just laidback and we just miss the 4 of the together...
Yunyun kept megumin grounded a bit too much. Needed just a little more of megumin let off the chain.
The cameos made the show 200 times better, and it was just background voices, that's what it needed, the whole gang, unfortunately we knew they couldn't be there
0:38 Damn bro! Straight for the kill😂😂😂😅😅😅😅
After 3 episodes, I didn't laugh even once. That's what's wrong with it.
You forgot how she caused the problem with arcenretia but that wasn't mentioned in the konosuba original show. many other things are not mentioned in the konosuba original anime
I knew without Aqua and Kazuma, the season isn't gonna work 😢
True
what about Darkness?
@@violetbilodeaushe’s extremely mid and predictable compared to the other characters, just can’t get behind her personality and the most obvious jokes when it comes to a person like her.
Disappointing? Are you drunk my friend? This whole series was funny as f* and f* amazing! We learn about a lot of stuff and it shows how much Megumin had grown later on in the series.
fax
Exactly!
The anime cut most of the novel's edge and humor, and sprinkled tone-deaf melancholic music on top.
Dont you think title of the video is bit harsh?
I've been trying to decide whether I should watch this season or not.. I like konosuba having all of the main characters. Their dynamic is amazing! But with only one.. idk.. is it worth the watch? The first episode didn't do much for me
First five episodes is a bit slow (AKA when Megumin in school). Ep 6-12 is fun.
Next place Megumin and Yunyun will visit is Arcanletia (which of course is going to be tons of fun). And after that they go to Axel (and yes some Kazuma, Aqua, and Darkness cameos are in this part).
I say go watch this spinoff. As someone who has read the light novels already, understanding Megumin's backstory will help you understand future plots in Konosuba.
@@frosttree1873 thanks frosttree! That's exactly what I needed to know. I'ma watch it
It's okay. But without her writing on the chest of kasuma Excalibur and drawing an arrow towards little kasuma, it lacks the slap stick humor. And after reading the final light novel. We are in for a treat in the 3rd season. Hopefully it will come out soon
Can you make vid on My one hit kill sister anime👀🙏
This is the Joey Tribbiani effect. Missing the original support characters.
She's the master of chuunibyu.
Ain’t wrong there!
@@414AnimeAmén to that! 💥💥💥💥💥
Sorry, mate - I have to humbly disagree. It was everything I expected from the world of Kono Suba.
Bring on season 3 of the best isekai parody.
Explosion 💥

I thought it was mid. Meguimin in the main series seemed like a chuni, overactive imagination. naive, smart, and young teen selfish. But in this new show, she came off as adult smart and just plain out mean and selfish.
the idea of this show seemed kinda lame to me in the first place, like I get she the most popular character in japan and probably here for some reason too, but i want the whole squad
ok ima watch the video now
I think the show is good, but not great. Here's my reasons for it:
1: We have the Konosuba universe, but not all of the Konosuba characters. There's less dynamic and less diversity compared to what we're used to, which can make the Megumin solo seem boring, one-dimensional and repetitive. This is especially true when literally 75% of the main cast is missing.
2: Similar to my first point, this is a common danger with prequels, but this one is especially true if the show has action in it. We know that none of the characters are ever in any life-threatening danger as they'll have to survive the prequel since they have to show up in the main series at a later point in their timeline. The action scenes can become boring and painfully predictable because we know that Megumin will eventually just blow up the enemy.
3: This last one is a bit more personal but because the focus is solely on Megumin and Yunyun, the toxic way Megumin goes about their friendship has much more time to shine. With the spotlight always being on her worst character traits, it's very likely that you're going to start disliking Megumin at some point watching the show.
I would like you to continue with My Life as Inukai-san's Dog
I know what was expected I read the light novels kind of wished they did the other 2 light novels instead but they havent introduce Iris yet
I think without the rest of the loonies of Konosuba to bounce off of the sheer horridness of her personality is a bit too much to take.
We are still carrying a torch for the original series as it was so satisfying. Now we are being very polite in our disappointment. Megumin being carried back home by Kazuma was deeply satisfying It was about the relationship. To the writers: sit back, breathe deep, do better. Please
This is supplemental material, it’s meant to be a slice of life and ties into later Konosuba and Continued! KonoBakuen.
@@cranesilentlyplays8084 Giving it a little more thought Are we at a point where anime like movies becomes a franchise with both good and not so good releases Is it too cynical to point to some later anime seasons living off the vibe created by fans
It wasn't bad I was able to enjoy it. But the difference between this and konosuba was night and day. In my opinion the reason for it is that konosubas biggest strenght is also it's biggest weaknes. The show is great becouse main charactrers ALL OF THEM. The reason it's so great cause they play off of each other perfectly. Alone each one off them becomes very annoying very fast
👍😎🍺🍩💥
When I first heard about his series, my first reaction was, "Why this rather than just another season of Konosuba?"
Just to have Time to animate the season, it's good this spin off for me
You do know we are getting S3 of the main series right?
Plus the reason why this was made is due to the fact its needed to understand parts that are seemingly going to happen in either S3 or the possible S4.
The reason is because it’s connected to the main story and it has a sequel series that takes place during the main story, it’s all connected and it gives a villain and Megumin more motivation.
It means that season 3 (and possibly season 4) is in production. LN6-9 and megumin spinoff are close to be in the same arc or saga.
I just wanted another season of Konosuba but it's like I got a season of flashback filler episodes instead.
I don't hate it but I hope that it only has this one season and that we can return to the actual show soon.
I'm not mad and I still enjoy watching it but without the rest of the gang it's kind of lack luster I keep putting myself in the position to be dissapointed by thinking/hoping that Kuzuma and the rest will show up.
I got excited in last weeks episode where you kept hearing kazuma, aqua and darkness. It was very clever.
@@414AnimeYou said it man!😊😊😊😊

KonoBakuen has a sequel series that takes place during the main story and all of it ties into the main story.
Hello can you please do a fact video on power from chainsaw man
Totally agree with all of your points. Adding to that, part of Megumin's charm is explosion magic, which she learns after a few episodes. Kinda dragged out the magic school bits as well. Cut down to 10 eps and this season would have been golden.
I actually liked it more than Konosuba. Its story was more interesting and it had fewer gags, while the running gags were better than the ones in the main series.
You are starting to sound like an all time hater right now. The main series is perfect.
I like MEGU-MID, however i haven't seen the anime...the main character Megumin, is soo funny and so cute, anyway nice video you made, keep it up!

@@414Anime🎉🎉🎉🎉
@@414Anime banger about the sharks
Gotta say, Iruma-kun has the neatest Ed track I've heard this year. Very odd, and a hint of Mindless Self Indulgence.
Otherwise, yeah, this little backstory didn't do much for me, OR Megumin. I agree that the strongest character here was Yunyun. Megumin doesn't really have much of a backstory that wasn't incredibly apparent in what we see in the main show.
We already saw the environment that produced her, and what motivated her to learn only explosion was done in a single episode. If anything, it could have just been a movie.
Now Lalatina is a total outcast whom we saw having family issues, so I think that would have been better fodder for a series. Megumin had a motivation that could be achieved through studying and leveling up, while manipulating a bunch of weirdos, but Darkness's "character flaw" is something that could be described as a gradual descent, or her being twisted... just way more interesting to watch develop.
All the Darkness stuff is already covered in the main story, so the author can’t make a spin-off of her and the joke is that Darkness is just Darkness (revealed in Season 2 that her dad is nice and gave her freedom and she beat him up.) She just realized one day that she was an M and that’s the joke/realization some people have irl.
@@cranesilentlyplays8084 you can play up all of it, but obsession with a single spell needs more than obsession with all forms of pain.
At the very least, you could have _something_ happening with Darkness discovering the _scope_ of her fetish. With Megumin, her personality is to hide weaknesses as best she can, which would just be inner monologues or facial expressions about not being able to do anything legitimately useful other than brewing potions with her profession. Plus, the entire TOWN are mages, so even her profession is a non-choice, despite how she pigeonholed herself.
Darkness, however, is supposed to be a prim and proper rich girl. You could see more of her oddity coming from the fact that her world is NOT weird, but she IS. Megumin is still absolutely like every other Crimson Demon in everything except her self-imposed restriction, while Yunyun is _culturally_ the outcast... which is why so many feel the story seems like it wouldn't stick without her, and does more to flesh HER out than it does Megumin.
It didn't show Meg tortured by her decision, just in dogged pursuit and putting on a brave face. The only time that veneer crumbles is with Kazuma, in the series proper. Now with Lalatina, we can see not only the same struggles she'd have finding a party or being shunned for her inadequacies, but there's also the journey we could see in her basically choosing a new identity... Darkness is both the prim, proper, responsible knight her family would have liked, but without her real name, and essentially a fake.
All the characters are either openly themselves or easily outed by their friends, but Lalatina often looks responsible directly until her temptations grow too great. They all put on a persona akin to a super ego, but when those fall apart in front of others, there's shame... and for Lalatina, it's unique in that her shame just makes her WORSE.
That's what I mean by having some kind of meaty content for a satisfying "story" for this comedy. Megumin is quick to play things off, like an "I meant to do that" type. Aqua freaks out and cries. Kazuma freaks out and whines about how nothing's fair. All are off-putting to the average person who'd have to deal with them. But Darkness... she gets horny and LIKES IT, not letting you simply leave with her ridiculous S-Rank strength, and/or disarming all your verbal/mental options by taking away the effects of social ostracization.
I know right? What the heck were they thinking, the show was a downgrade to the character, in my opinion.
Hi
Honestly I kinda got bored going through the first few episodes. Honestly was excited when I heard this would be airing but I feel eh about it now
I feel like the beginning drag way too long the whole reason for the spin-off in her to find her mentor and she hasn't even done that yet I mean her and school drag a little bit too long and I know that her friend was the one who saved her sister and she was able to get all the points and I kind of wanted to be an epic battle something with a lot more weight to it but that's me nitpicking
It’s a slice of life magical school story.
nah its good and negs bleach blocked
if this came out 7 years ago it would have peak timing but it feels so hollow and outdated.
Manga is better.
Would have been better to just get the next season of konosuba
She was never the best girl
who do you say is best girl?
Megumin isn’t interesting at all
