OK, I recharged the battery in golf, car stayed in cold for 4 days, and it started fast. So battery was discharged because I wasn't driving a lot + very cold nights ~-25 C. Guys sorry for a bad comparison, I'll try better in future :)
It's one year old battery, sadly, wasn't driving a lot as I have Subaru for the winter :) I've removed and charged it, now it's OK :) If you drive golf every day, it's start without problems, check my older videos! cheers
You're right.With the good battery it should turnover a way easier. My father started his 2003 passat 1.9 tdi at -23 degrees with only 2 properly working glow plugs :)

A lot of stationary diesel/plant engines (mainly direct injection) have no preheating method. It's interesting that car/commercial diesels need them so much. Perhaps having more cylinders and less cranking speed as a result makes them harder to fire off without preheat.

Just in almost one turn after preheeting gow plugs two times. Every time i change my oil before winter. So, i dont have any problems at all. Engine ALH Golf 4. Im very happy with my honey G.

yes in case engine has okay compression which i don't believe with tdi's with such mileage, plus water temp sensor can be culprit so glow plugs wont work properly (long enough), then glow plug rail connections are the worst on such tdi's, so there's a chance not all plugs gets power even tho plug is okay. Just saying. From same golf experience over 10 years of owning one. regards
Is not problem only battery , also problem its bad heaters you know ... allot diesel auto got 4 heaters when one dont work dat is problem to start normal at 0° or + .... :) just make new heaters and you dont have problems ....
Glow plugs was checked and working, new glow plug harness was installed. Maybe injector seals started to leak, you can check my older videos, golf was starting better. gl :)

How can you compare two cars, when subaru is petrol, and stayed overnight, while golf is diesel + bad car battery + stayed in cold weather for 4 days without starting up. Okay dude, if my old mk3 could start in -35° you're doing something wrong. Cycle your plugs more, let it get nice and warm, don't crank it forever, give it a bit of gas, not a lot.

My mk4 TDI started Jolly good in minus 39c. Here in Canada. No block heater. No pre heat. Glow plugs 2cycles. Good battery.

My 81kw mk4 TDI vw bora at -20°C with new battery starts at first try. As the battery gets older it starts harder, that's true.

It's all about the battery, really. Sub-zero temperatures around -20'C are nothing exceptional.
