True story. I was in Burbank to do an interview for a television show, and I look at the address, pull up to the gate and press the button. I tell them that I'm there for an interview for this show on Fred Williamson. Cool. Gate opens, I park, and here comes Bob. He welcomes me into the shop, and I'm stunned by all of the cars. Bob asks, 'When were they supposed to be shooting? I don't see anything on the schedule." I tell him that it was supposed to be in ten minutes. I then ask, "Whose place is this?" This is before Jay's show and TH-cam channel. He goes, "This is Jay Leno's collection." I'm floored. "Can I look around?" Bob was like, "Sure...go ahead." For a guy who LOVES cars like me, it was the greatest ten minutes of my life. Turned out the shoot was down the street, but Bob was nice as can be. RIP Bob. Thanks for the impromptu, unannounced, secret Jay Leno car warehouse, location tour.
You could see the tears welling up in Jay's eyes. Had to be hard doing this tribute. I would like to meet Jay.He seems very down to earth and a genuinely nice guy as well.
@@mercoid well, you've commented on multiple comments saying that. The fact that you've had to say it multiple times + lots of people saying otherwise could mean you're mistaken.
This is absolutely heart breaking! Had the privilege of working on Bob's Plymouth (brake lines, brake light, etc), and the even bigger honor of calling him my friend. This is a real loss. Bob hooked me up with Jay a couple years ago and I had the privilege of building Jay the Botafogo Special guitar, which Jay invited me to do an episode for, have lunch, hang out, what a thrill! For those who don't know this yet, Jay is a real person, loyal, generous and kind. Thanks for doing this Jay. You and Bob have huge hearts and it's no wonder you were friends for so long. He truly respected and cared for you... "Spanky" (V8 Custom Guitars)
You can definitely see Jay's heart in this video. He had a hard time holding it together several times thru the video. We should all be fortunate enough to have a friend like Jay. No matter how big or wealthy he is he still is a down to earth sort of guy.
You could tell that Jay was very melancholy through this entire segment. That says a lot about who Jay is as a human being. He lost a friend and a fellow lover of cars. I hope they got a LOT of money for this automobile. I thank you Jay for being such a good friend to Bob and his family.
Well said Talladega Tom. Rode one of my buddies sidecar rig at his funeral. Know just how hard talking to us and driving that car had to be. Jay you are a good man, sounds like Bob was too.
Oh my gosh. I realize this is an “old” video now.... Jay didn’t talk about death or misery or pain, but clearly a 25 year struggle with cancer brought pain to Bob and heartbreak to everyone around him. “We didn’t notice it seeing him everyday but people who would come in every few months would see he lost weight” Jay is a lucky man to have people around him who appreciate him enough to want to stick around for 25 years. Employees who find fulfillment and meaning in their jobs enough to stick around aren’t the norm these days. Neither are employers who keep people employed longterm the norm these days. I’m in tears after this video and I’m grateful that Bob had a “place” and was valued until the end. And after. The Bob I never met was fortunate. Thanks again, Mr. J. Leno, on Bob’s behalf.
Met Bob at your shop 3yrs ago. I'm from Bradford MA, and was hoping to meet you Jay. missed you by a day. Bob was a funny sweet guy. had this dogged out old Ford Explorer or Bronco II he was under its hood. He was cracking jokes about it and that it had potential. I'm the proud owner of a 49 Plymouth business coupe myself.. RIP Bob. Seems like ultimately you were the Richest man at the shop. You did it right, till the end. Great episode Jay. Feel like I finally got to meet you.
Beautifully said, how many employers would do what Jay Leno just did, take the time to pay tribute in order to help the family. Based on how solemn and low key he is in this video it really hits home when you lose a friend! He sounded like a good man and a true gear head.
I would agree with that. But also it's just as hard watching someone who raised you, taught you right from wrong, told you stories from there past. It's hard to watch them suffer and to no longer have them around. Been there to many times already.
Absolutely. I'm 55 now and my dad will turn 79 this year. We just lost his youngest sister (aged 70) to Covid and his older brother and sister passed away in 2017/2019. I can feel it coming and I'm not ready to see him go. There are so many things I'd love to talk about and there are even more things I can still learn from him. Getting older sucks in that perspective.
What a touching and well done tribute to Bob Sales. Jay is a class act and sure did a wonderful and moving tribute to his former friend and employee! Thanks Jay for reminding us all of the importance of friends. I just lost a dear friend to cancer yesterday and it isn't easy facing life without him. Keep up the great work you do!
Sounds like a Carguys dream working at your Garage...on top of that he did what he enjoyed nearly until the end...what could be better? Thanks for beeing that way Jay, good luck with the Sale!
AnTrAxX Slingshots it really does sound like a dream for a car guy. Probably not much pressure to get something done this minute either but rather getting everything done right. Getting to use the shop after hours would be the icing on the cake.
Jay seems like a great guy to work for. He must really care about his employees which is so rare in today’s world. The world would be a better place if there were more people in it like Jay.
anything with things rotating to blow up gasoline to make something go fast is cool. We all love explosions so car and motorcycle people are all the best. And I appreciate Jay for sharing, and feel sad as well, for his and the family's loss. Looks like a great car from a great man.
When both my parents died of cancer 9 & 8 years ago. I kept both they're cars. A 1976 HJ holden V8 my father had from new & my mother's 1983 Holden Gemini. These cars I added to my own Holden collection, a 1977 SS Torana & my 2016 Holden Commodore SS. Keeping they're cars is part of what keeps the memories of loved ones alive. It's too bad Bob could not leave all his cars to his children. RIP Bob & thanks Jay Leno for a great tribute.
Having lost my dad exactly one year ago today, it was really moving seeing Jay's tribute to Bob. Jay, you always show that you're one of the good guys.
I absolutely love that Jay tries his best to hide emotion throughout the video, but the fact that he seems at least a little off center from start to finish just goes to show how good of a guy Jay is and how he felt about Bob. Mad respect to say the least.
The Dodge Brothers treated their employees similarly - they had a special part of the factory set up as "The Playpen", with lathes and drills and presses & such, and encouraged the men to invent and build machinery or whatever they wanted (on their own time, of course) ..... Horace and John Dodge also had platters of huge sandwiches and mugs of beer served to the men at lunchtime, which must have endeared them quite a bit !
Jay, that's one of the most beautiful tributes I've ever seen. I just started my own customizing shop in 2016 and can only hope to make these kinds of relationships over the years. I love the channel and this video. It really made me tear up.
That was very touching Jay! Recently, lost my grandfather to lung cancer. He had treatments early on after they discovered the tumour but lung cancer is incurable and it didn't stop the tumour like anticipated. His condition degraded quickly but tried to fight as hard as he could. He was a car guy having owned 19 or 20 cars in his 82 years. Really liked the big american iron from back in the day. Owned multiple Pontiacs and Fords and Dodges. I made him a book last Christmas about all the cars he owned and it really touched him because he showed it to his friends. I will always remember changing the tires and washing my mom's car before winter with him and my dad. He loved working whether it was on his house or his cars and he would always come to help us if we had any trouble with lighting at our house since he was an electrician back in the day. He had a good life but it's still saddens me to see him gone, pretty sure he would have lived longer if it wasn't for the cancer. Cheers Jay!
Really nice to see Jay Leno's Garage Trending on TH-cam. The man's a true star and the humbling tribute to Bob Sales and his remaining family is true to the spirit of this very important time of year. So glad these American Legends live on and are so popular... Dang onion fumes must be flowing from the kitchen or something...
That's what I love about Jay, he's a car guy with a heart and proper respect for everyone in the profession. Bob sounds like a great guy and a typical perfectionist; nothing wrong with that. If I had the room, I'd bid!
Such a morbid episode, but when I go, I want my friends and family to talk about me the way you talked about him, Jay. Car guys just live this kind of life
Jay I don't know how often you get to the read the comments people leave but I want to thank you for this video. I lost a good friend a couple of years ago. He was a real car guy like Bob, a dyed in the wool hot rodder. He was always there to lend a hand when you got in a little to deep on your car project. He was a great friend and your tribute to Bob brought alot of wonderful memories back. Thanks Jay for reminding us all that as important as these cars are its the people we share them with that are truly important.
This is my first comment on Jay Leno's garage one of my favorite shows of all time... And you're right the car is where it belongs... I'm at that retirement age and this is the car that would be perfect for me if I had an old rustal mod this is exactly how I would have done it love it... And if I had more than $1,000 to bid on it I bit every nickel...R.I.P.... Love to your family
A '51 Business Coupe was my first car outta HS in '65. Chrysler dealer mechanic put in a larger truck flathead, bigger carb, fat rear tires. kinda loud. Unique even then, and I loved it. Another one that got away.
I love the respect Jay shows to Bob. It must have been tough for him to do this video. It's a beautiful car and Bob did a great job. It must be great to work for Jay. I never had a boss like him.
You know, I come to really love Jay in this program, I watch it all the time and its a joy , I am not 40 yet so I feel I grew up watching him in those "New York days back in the 90s coming from a tiny country called Albania... This video alone shows that he is a great man . Them guys are lucky to work for someone like u.
that's true friendship, the few tears that Leno shred, just show that he loved his mate very much, I like and thumb up this video as a sign of respect to Bob Sales and to Jay Leno a true friend indeed.
Thanks for the nice tribute Jay. I hope Bob's family & friends find comfort in knowing how much he meant to everyone at the garage. May he rest in peace.
I love it. Its right in keeping with my style. What's to some maybe kind of dull plumage, but spunky rims and tires and a few touches. Favoritest rims, even. :) I'd have bid on it if I were in the income bracket. :)
I've always loved cars as far back as I can remember. My dad was a real car guy. 55 Bel-air. 63 and 65 Impalas. 67 GTO . 68 and 70 Chargers. 75 Vette and more that don't immediately come to mind. To the point any time we dove out and around we played name that car in every yard and field we passed. I sure miss him and I think he would really love Jay's show.
I met Bob, he gave my son and I a private tour and like Jay said he was a character. He loved what he did and when he found out I was true gear head we got along joyously. We got chatting and said he was looking for a 40 Ford to restore. I called him about a year later and he said he found something instead. I guess this is what he found. I was glad to of met him....Godspeed Bob Sales.....thanks for meeting me and my boy. Condolences to Jay, the staff at Big Dog and all the Sales family. (PS,,,,i got to ride in the golf cart)
That paintjob is MAGIC when the car´s going down the road, and the LED lights are badass man! really cool! This is a very special piece of film. R.I.P. Bob.
I feel the same way. I've been there had to watch a few people I cared about pass away. It's a feeling no one should experience. And it was clear Jay was in pain. I wanted reach out and hug him and thank him for showing off the car right.
Jay, in watching your videos (I’m a newbie to them) what strikes me greatly is that it’s never really about the cars, but it’s about the people who surround them. And Bob’s 50 Plymouth is about love and respect, that is the real drive train for you.
You really get to see Jay Leno’s character through all these videos. A genuine, down to earth, uplifting great person. Jay Leno is that guy you wish you had in your life as a friend.
i can only hope someday, someone will do somthing as awesome as this for me. every car guy understands how much it would mean to have your car go to a good home!
There’s something about the roar a car can make when you stomp that throttle that a human voice could never do in life, and in this instance, signifies this mans heart and voice after he’s gone. I loved this episode because of the humanity in it, and the connection it allows us to have with this side of Jay. My dad had a similar car as a young man. He had others, and our connection was cars. The passing of our parents and friends is inevitable, but that fact doesn’t quell the pain. I can’t wrap this up with anything profound other than....yeah...RIP, Dad. And Bob as well.
I'm just now seeing this video with the COVID mess going on. That was a great tribute Mr. Leno! Before You or I leave this world I would love to meet You if possible and tour Your car collection! Mr. Leno, One thing I admire about You is even with all Your success it seems to me You are just a Humble Man and really care for the people that work for You! I commend You for that! I love watching Your videos and watched You on the Tonight Show as much as possible through the years. Mr. Leno...You are a Class Act!! Thank You!!!
Thanks for the show and tribute, R.I.P. Bob. Jay, the courage you have shown is so wonderful for him and family. Great job Bob, the car looks and works fantastic.
This tribute so well done shows why America loves Jay. Rest In Peace, Bob and God speed.
Spot on, Rob.

Well said. Rode one of my buddies sidecar rig at his funeral. Know just how hard talking to us and driving that car had to be. Jay you are a good man.
That's pretty cool to see Jay helping out an old employee/friend. Can you imagine working on your own vehicle in Jay Leno's garage?
You could see the tears welling up in Jay's eyes. Had to be hard doing this tribute. I would like to meet Jay.He seems very down to earth and a genuinely nice guy as well.
I could tell Jay didn't want to do this video I could hear the tears in his voice im very sorry jay :(
ChaoticCarReviews yeah man, you can tell this one was tough for him.
ChaoticCarReviews u
ChaoticCarReviews ...I didn't get that feeling at all from Jay's demeanor
you really get to know how real a person is when he is hurt, this just shows how true Jay was and has been all his life

Beautiful car. A fellow Cancer survivor here. It's a hard battle, sometimes a battle that can not be won. That is a very nice legacy Bob has left.

For a moment I thought Jay might smell the jacket. :\

Am I the only one who watched this and then wanted to give Jay a pat on the back or a hug? Man... talk about a bitter-sweet video. :(
No your not the only one. It's just so sad. It looked like Jay was in pain. He never misses a line usually. But he choked up in this one a few times.
Yet another piece of evidence showing that Jay is just a stand up guy. To do this for his friends and their family is just astonishing.

yup they do!
anything with things rotating to blow up gasoline to make something go fast is cool. We all love explosions so car and motorcycle people are all the best. And I appreciate Jay for sharing, and feel sad as well, for his and the family's loss. Looks like a great car from a great man.
But Monster Trucks run on propane... lol
KelvinSmoke No they don't. You mean CNG or LPG. Propane is only good for BBQ grills and heating.
When both my parents died of cancer 9 & 8 years ago. I kept both they're cars. A 1976 HJ holden V8 my father had from new & my mother's 1983 Holden Gemini. Jay is a human being.

Such a morbid episode, but when I go, I want my friends and family to talk about me the way you talked about him, Jay. Car guys just live this kind of life
I love how Jay takes it down a notch when he's doing a remembrance video. his communication skills are in the subtleties.
favorite quote, "you never really own a car, you just hold onto it for the next guy"
One of the best episodes ever Jay, I bet Bob is smiling from above, not just for the burnout but because of all the nice things you said
Such an amazing eulogy. I am moved on so many levels.

Nice tribute to Bob. Had a smile on my face the entire video. This smile is for you Bob R.I.P
Jay Leno's garage has become my favorite show. All car guys thank you Jay!
I second that.
I love the respect Jay shows to Bob. It must have been tough for him to do this video. It's a beautiful car and Bob did a great job. It must be great to work for Jay. I never had a boss like him.
So Sorry to hear bout this sad story. I hope it bring a Nice Amount for the family. My Prayers are with the Family at this time.
Man. The more I watch of Jay's videos the more I think he's a legitimately good guy.
I didn't know Bob, but after watching this video, I feel like I knew him for years. Thank you Jay for sharing this tribute to your friend. God Bless.
nothing but class jay. i hope both of his families take comfort in the good times.
Thank you, Jay! A very nice tribute to (a terrific guy) Bob Sales and his 1950 Plymouth Business Coupe. Well done!!
Cheers!! :-)
You know, I come to really love Jay in this program, I watch it all the time and its a joy , I am not 40 yet so I feel I grew up watching him in those "New York days back in the 90s coming from a tiny country called Albania... I would love to have that car!
It kills me to see you upset Jay. Bob must have been more of a Brother and an outstanding person.
Grizzly Bear yeah, u can really see jay is beat up over this.
Thanks for looking after Bob Jay, you made his life very happy! Bless you.
Having just lost my Grandmother in Sept to cancer I know all too well what you are going through. So sorry for your loss Jay.
that's true friendship, the few tears that Leno shred, just show that he loved his mate very much, I like and thumb up this video as a sign of respect to Bob Sales and to Jay Leno a true friend indeed.
I bet there are not many opportunitys to buy a car that was built at jay Lenos garage.
Thanks for the nice tribute Jay. I hope Bob's family & friends find comfort in knowing how much he meant to everyone at the garage. May he rest in peace.
I love old Plymouths, from '72 on back. The 1940-50s are my favorites though, by far.
Jay is such an amazing person. To be able to humanize this car for his friend... it's just incredible.
absolutely beautiful tribute Jay.
Such a sweet ride, job well done Bob, R.I.P. my sweet car loving brother.
Mr. Jay Leno, Iam so very sorry for your loss. My condolences.
Bob was a true original. God Bless. Sorry for your loss Jay. I met him in 96.
What a great car. I think it looks, sounds and runs awesome. I hope is sells well! It deserves a home that will appreciate her.
Who the hell would give this video a thumbs down, I mean even one thumbs down? Jay’s Garage is a treasure, I love these videos.
Nice color combo. Obviously not Jay's thing but awesome he did this for a friend.
I like the odd duck cars . I don't like shows that focus on what EVERYONE agrees are classic or interesting . They may be right but it gets boring .
Great Tribute, sounds like the environment I strive for. I am sad for your loss Jay, but I can only hope that I go out that happy and dignified.
I even enjoyed Jeff Dunham's Gremlins
I love it. Its right in keeping with my style. What's to some maybe kind of dull plumage, but spunky rims and tires and a few touches. Favoritest rims, even. :) I'd have bid on it if I were in the income bracket. :)
It’s a classy color!
I sure miss him and I think he would really love Jay's show.
whether intended or not, that was a very fitting eulogy for an old car guy Jay......... nicely done.
Hey Jay - thanks for honoring Bob and helping his family. What a wonderful gesture.
R.I.P. Bob.
I gotta admit I started getting emotional watching this.
Brian Brooks Same here, my father was a car man too, I just lost him in the summer.
Man, a tear jerker.
What a great tribute to your good friend. It's touching to see the just how much he meant to you and all your staff. Thanks Jay, you're a class act.
I believe people never die they live in our hearts forever
RIP Bob. Its cool that he leaves behind a nice car to enjoy.
Very ,very touching and so respectful. He was so lucky to call you his friend, Jay.
You are one of the good guys Jay Leno.
Jay Leno, what a wonderful thing you are doing by helping Bob's family finding a new owner for his car. You are a great guy.
Jay, I'm glad you had such a wonderful friend!
My best friend is presently going through chemotherapy. My sincerest condolences, God-speed and Rest in Peace; Bob
Thanks for the show and tribute, R.I.P. Bob.
Jay, the courage you have shown is so wonderful for him and family.
Great job Bob, the car looks and works fantastic.
This is such a nice video. Respectful and dignified.
Very touching episode. And it really shows what a nice guy Bob was and how Jay truly cared about him. Jay - that was a great tribute.
sounds like not easiest of topics to talk for jay, i can relate :( A very touching episode.
