Maria Sur's journey from Ukraine to Melodifestivalen 2023 | INTERVIEW

Maria Sur will participate in Heat 2 of Melodifestivalen 2023 with her song "Never Give Up". We speak with her about her experience competing on The Voice of Ukraine, performing in Avicii Arena arena at a benefit concert for Ukraine, and how she fled her home of Zaporizhzhia early in the war to live in Sweden.

let's hope that the song given to her is good enough and the public will choose the winner more objectively (based on how good an entry is or whether they like it, not purely because of sympathy).

Let's face it. Maria is inevitably going to get a lot of votes from the public purely out of sympathy over the war just like Kalush even if her song isn't good. There's a reason she is currently second in the betting odds to win Melfest despite the fact that nobody in Sweden had ever heard of her.

I agree with you to some extent, you need to realise that the song writers basically decides which artist gonna sing which song, Loreen is odds on favourite because their is a big chance she will get the best written song. So its not really the fact that she is Ukrainian but more so that their is a big chance they produced a quality song for her.

Let’s be honest here. No one has ever heard of this girl but she’s tied for 1st in the betting odds with our queen Loreen because she’s Ukrainian and will get sympathy votes from the public as per usual xx Hopefully the jury ruins her so we can see someone go to Eurovision on merit and talent rather than their country’s situation.
