I have Ubuntu 22.04 LTS on mac, it's rather old iMac mid 2011. I installed it because I can only install macos 10.13.6 which is rather old and the machine, being still rather good could use an OS refresh - hence Ubuntu install. So far so good. I discovered this video and thought that maybe I can install Catalina as you did on this old mac but something tells me it won't work due to the hardware config of his mac. Am I wrong to think this way?
There's something wrong with this, QEMU isn't locking the mouse fully to the Mac-OS. Mouse pointer doesn't respond at all on guest VM, and when the pointer location leaves QEMU window the Linux mouse moves around, and once it goes to the QEMU window disappears again. To get the mouse to move on guest, I have to press Ctrl-Alt-G to "unlock" mouse, and then (while moving the mouse pointer in the desired direction) press Ctrl-Alt-G again. The mouse pointer on guest VM then moves a tiny little bit before freezing again. And I have to do this like 100x before I can move the pointer to the desired control. Mouse clicks go to the guest VM ok as do keyboard. Some kind of bug going on here...
Excellent guide. Just my mouse is not working properly for some reason. It is moving but in the background of vm the ubuntu mouse is also moving. Its a problem to reach on certain apps and points on vm

There are lines in the readme files which enable you to export the config into virt-manager. Once you export to virt-manager this machine stays saved? I am new to QEMU/KVM stuff so maybe it's a stupid question :)

I did everything according to the instructions, everything worked out for me, everything works. but one problem remained. after expanding the virtual machine window to the full screen 1920*1080 (ctrl+alt+f), my system screen rises by 1 cm. so I have a 1cm black bar at the bottom of the screen, but I can't see the menu bar at the top (until I exit fullscreen mode). what can i do about it?
@@absprog The upgrade to Big Sur runs without any problem and install it on the MainDisk but at the end of the process the machine boots again on Catalina. Any clues?
I was afraid that something like that might happen... The guys who developed this project don't really support Big Sur yet. Sticking with Catalina is apparently the safest bet for now. Do you miss any specific feature from Big Sur? Or is it just that you would rather use the latest Mac version?

I guess you could do the same with Mac, but first can I ask what the performance is like just with all the defaults that you get from the basic installation demoed here? Not interested in games but apps for photo editing, like Lightroom or Luminar AI.

Thanks! I think it depends on the performance you want... A virtual machine will never be as capable as a physical one. But being able to hop between the 3 operating systems is really nice :-) Which one of the three you will be using the most?

After installation it works good, but not for long time. After installing few updates (not system upgrade) QEMU holds and it isn't impossible do anything. Reboot of the QEMU takes it on a PAUSE and I can't even load OS. Are there some ideas how to fix it?

Every Ubuntu based distro will do. Your graphics card doesn’t really matter, as the virtual machine uses an emulated graphics card.

Are you sure you added the disk’s filename to the script correctly?

stuck at running the basic.sh, get error back that KVM kernel module doesnt exist, and fail to initialize KVM into qemu because it doesnt exist.

I do have one question: do you know what to do in order to not run this command (after restarting the physical machine) "sudo chmod 666 /dev/kvm". I get the following message (after restarting the physical machine and run ./basic.sh in terminal): "Could not access KVM kernel module: Permission denied. qemu-system-x86_64: failed to initialize KVM: Permission denied"?
Did you add your username to the kvm group?

I'm stuck on the networking setup, using guide-networking -from "Using Netctl" onward. I'm using Debian Buster, and netctl is not an installed service, so i don't know if I can advance past this point. Any help appreciated
