Sometimes that’s a calculated choice. If you do t have the cash to put down on top quality equipment its ok to get some cheaper now with the expectation of replacing in the future.
I’d rather train with cheap kit than not train until I can afford better.

I've worked out on traditional heavy bags th-cam.com/users/postUgkxp9-sf95nqfjey-uyzxUzQ7m9MXRPK1BE a spherical stuffed "wrecking ball" bag, and now this thing. What I like about it is that it has the heft to stay largely in place so I'm not chasing it around. It's tall enough to allow for headshots and body shots, but it's short enough to give an uppercut somewhere to land. I'm very happy so far. Filling it was a bit of a cluster. For top-offs, I've learned that you can screw the supplied nozzle onto any basic plastic water bottle. I can't speak to durability as I've only had it a week.

Due to my circumstances, I can't afford a gym, and I dont have access to anything more than dumbells and 1 inch plates. I dream of competing when I am done with nursing school, but have a lot of work to go before I can compete. I made my own 150lb sandbag out of an army duffel bag 16 bucks on amazon, target laundry bag (4 bucks), and pea gravel. It's done amazing things for me. I've built 10 lbs of muscle since february.
Also, gotta thank you, Brian, you are one of my main inspirations for strongman.

I love my sandbag! I bought mine to use as a "log carry" and has straps I can wear on my back. I plan on getting heavier ones for the reasons you just mentioned. I planned on using my 50" duffle bag and loading it up with smaller bags to modify weight. But I may just pick up a 19" and 24". Both can be bought new for under $20.

Great video! Love, love, love sandbags! I've never heard cradle pick before. I typically hear vertical pick and horizontal pick. Vertical pick for carries(where you can't shoulder it) and Horizontal for loads. Or in my case(and your wife's I think), I'm too short to do vertical picks on loosely packed bags(more common than you think). So I just do horizontal picks, avoids banging into my knees as i stand. Great upper back work constantly crushing it in during a horizontal carry. Favorite exercise is definitely sandbag cleans for max reps in a set time. Just lap it, get that triple extension as high on your chest as you can, then slam it back to the ground: repeat.

Brian you are awesome. I will say having just sewn my own copy of a rogue (or any of their similar knockoffs) sand bag. They are not over priced. The amount of time it would take the average person to sew one especially without a good torquing walking foot Machine the "money saving" is negligent. Awesome learning experience, big time consumer.

    Hey Brian,
Loved the video and in addition to several others about sandbag training I really want to incorporate it into my training. However, based on where I live, I'll really only be able to use them in my small-ish basement home gym. Have you ever had a high quality bag (not home made) break? Obviously the stakes are higher for one breaking inside vs. a garage/yard. and this is more subjective, but is it a still a good addition if I can only do smaller space stuff like lifts, squats, over shoulders, and over bar stuff vs. walks and hard throws.tosses or something?

Another option for cheap liners: "Contractor Bags". They come in different thicknesses, can be picked up at hardware stores, and in my experience if you double or triple up on them they can handle 150 lbs (never went heavier than that so maybe more and maybe more if you put more layers, etc?)

I use old tractor inner tubes. They’ll give them to you at the tire shop. Cut a section out, twist one end and wrap it with tape, then I put a hose clamp around it for bonus points. Then fill it up with sand and do the same with the other end. Works real good, cause when you drop it, it’ll expand instead of busting. You could even drop that into a duffle so you don’t smell like rubber afterwards.

Im so glad my gym has sandbags (its my gym BECAUSE it has sandbags and other strongman tools).
Lifting barbells and DBs just arent fun. Useful? Yes. But nothing kills me like carrying a 70lb sandbag (working up to 100lbs) for an 80 and back. Its awesome.
    Thanks for the enthusiasm, Brian
EDIT: My gym has a 70-yard turf. As of now, I can carry a 100-lb sandbag on my shoulder (or bear hug) to the end and back. Progress! Now for 200lbs

When you go over shoulder you seems to roll it over. I have a adjustable bag and full capacity (twice as high as it is wide so collumn like) at 100kg and I'm having a hard time shouldering it. Is the roll integral to the movement?

Luckily here in Vancouver, there's a plethora of dirty needles handy.
