" ...a bag of dog food or dead body. All of those great moments in life you're not expecting." I'm a mortician AND a dog owner. These will be great for me!
My experience exactly. I've had a pair of straps, a lever belt and two dipping belts break on me because I didn't want to spend too much. Had to end up getting the quality stuff anyway lol
Sometimes that’s a calculated choice. If you do t have the cash to put down on top quality equipment its ok to get some cheaper now with the expectation of replacing in the future. I’d rather train with cheap kit than not train until I can afford better.
Due to my circumstances, I can't afford a gym, and I dont have access to anything more than dumbells and 1 inch plates. I dream of competing when I am done with nursing school, but have a lot of work to go before I can compete. I made my own 150lb sandbag out of an army duffel bag 16 bucks on amazon, target laundry bag (4 bucks), and pea gravel. It's done amazing things for me. I've built 10 lbs of muscle since february. Also, gotta thank you, Brian, you are one of my main inspirations for strongman.
Hey Brian, loved the video and will definitely have a go at making some sandbags, I think they'll help massively with my work (car and truck tyre fitter). Unrelated though, I've been using your free programs and entered a deadlift comp on the weekend where I pulled 250kgs (550lbs). I just wanted to say thank you for the advice and all the motivation. I'd been stuck at 180kg (400bs) until I started watching you about 6 months ago and I just wanted to say thanks
Brian thank you for all your awesome content. Because of some things you have provided programing and finisher stuff I finally broke the 405 deadlift.. And I feel on top of the world today
I bought a 150lb bag. Just filled it yesterday. There's sand everywhere. I dont mean its spilled from the bag, it's just managed to get everywhere from when I filled it. It's in my kitchen, my bedroom, front porch. Like magic sand.
You are definetely better. First video of you ever that I had to rewatch to understand all sentences, despite how fast you have always talked. Thanks for the video, Brian!
I love my sandbag! I bought mine to use as a "log carry" and has straps I can wear on my back. I plan on getting heavier ones for the reasons you just mentioned. I planned on using my 50" duffle bag and loading it up with smaller bags to modify weight. But I may just pick up a 19" and 24". Both can be bought new for under $20.
Thanks brother! Really helpful stuff here. I got my first sandbag rigged up this week and tying it off really does change everything - it's like the difference between lifting a dead weight and lifting a weight that's actively fighting you.
I just recently bought a 200 lbs sandbag. It's a cylinder style bag(and not a sack style), but I still use liner bags because I'd like to be able to adjust the weight and use it indoors during winter without any risks.
I think I've already made a comment on this video but Brian is an amazing person for sharing all of what he does and how. He's a beast. I bought a 200lb sandbag, filled it and lifted it... Once. There's a science behind the lift for sure but sweet Jesus what a humbling experience. I absolutely love the raw strength behind power lifting and sandbag lifting. I'm keeping it incorporated into my weekly lifts because I can't possibly get worse than my first one.
Great video! Love, love, love sandbags! I've never heard cradle pick before. I typically hear vertical pick and horizontal pick. Vertical pick for carries(where you can't shoulder it) and Horizontal for loads. Or in my case(and your wife's I think), I'm too short to do vertical picks on loosely packed bags(more common than you think). So I just do horizontal picks, avoids banging into my knees as i stand. Great upper back work constantly crushing it in during a horizontal carry. Favorite exercise is definitely sandbag cleans for max reps in a set time. Just lap it, get that triple extension as high on your chest as you can, then slam it back to the ground: repeat.
Best closing system is to use the ring + tennis ball + zip tie & tape. it helps having a tighter closure and prevents the zip tie from bursting on impacts.
coming here after watching your new sandbag workout video and i can not believe how much BETTER your voice sounds now compared to when you made this video! I hope that's an indication of your general overall health being much better as well! Btw your wife carrying that 200lb sandbag across the gym was just unbelievably impressive! She is a fucking warrior!
I just got two sandbags after watching you’re strongman starter kit video so this is exactly what I needed to watch. I also was able to get a keg from your other video. Thanks for your very helpful detailed videos!!!
Brian you are awesome. I will say having just sewn my own copy of a rogue (or any of their similar knockoffs) sand bag. They are not over priced. The amount of time it would take the average person to sew one especially without a good torquing walking foot Machine the "money saving" is negligent. Awesome learning experience, big time consumer.
It's awesome to listen to ur voice getting better from video to video. Hope ur feeling better from video to video as well. Great video yet again man. Thanks Brian
Great video. I'm using BruteForce bags and they have variable weights. I'm using mine for conditioning and getting back in shape so I'm glad I'm NOT using a 220 lb bag. I beat the piss out myself this week with 125lbs. As I get better, I'll up the weight
Im so glad my gym has sandbags (its my gym BECAUSE it has sandbags and other strongman tools). Lifting barbells and DBs just arent fun. Useful? Yes. But nothing kills me like carrying a 70lb sandbag (working up to 100lbs) for an 80 and back. Its awesome. Thanks for the enthusiasm, Brian EDIT: My gym has a 70-yard turf. As of now, I can carry a 100-lb sandbag on my shoulder (or bear hug) to the end and back. Progress! Now for 200lbs
I've worked out on traditional heavy bags th-cam.com/users/postUgkxp9-sf95nqfjey-uyzxUzQ7m9MXRPK1BE a spherical stuffed "wrecking ball" bag, and now this thing. What I like about it is that it has the heft to stay largely in place so I'm not chasing it around. It's tall enough to allow for headshots and body shots, but it's short enough to give an uppercut somewhere to land. I'm very happy so far. Filling it was a bit of a cluster. For top-offs, I've learned that you can screw the supplied nozzle onto any basic plastic water bottle. I can't speak to durability as I've only had it a week.
Huge fan of the video! I'd be really interested in seeing some more breakdowns of strongman stuff that would be used in training or competitions like keg carries/medlies and bag over bar
Great advice on buying liners. Just got a pack. They are cheap at Home Depot. The fabric for the outer part is probably really cheap too if I can only find some
Well, now I know pretty much what I need for sandbag training. Sandbag, gymnastic rings, latex bands and possibly a weighted vest. You're set. Calisthenics with bands and sandbag for weight training.
Another option for cheap liners: "Contractor Bags". They come in different thicknesses, can be picked up at hardware stores, and in my experience if you double or triple up on them they can handle 150 lbs (never went heavier than that so maybe more and maybe more if you put more layers, etc?)
Would definitely love to see the wifes input. Ive been mixing strong man , crossfit, bodybuilding, and endurance training. My wife is currently getting into the fitness thing and i think she would enjoy and could be encouraged/inspired to see another woman do strongman style workouts without trying to compete. Lets be honest women competing are insane compared to women just trying to workout.
I bought two dutch army bags put one inside the other, filled the inner one with sand plus weight plates and managed to shoulder 352lbs after training on the sandbag for a year. The bags last a long time, just don't get them wet
My gyms got one of those iron mind sand bags but it’s not been compacted so it’s just a big and heavy floppy bag of sand. I tried using it the other day, picked it up the sand fell to the bottom hitting me in the nuts so I gave up 😂. I’m glad I now know it shouldn’t be like that.
I use old tractor inner tubes. They’ll give them to you at the tire shop. Cut a section out, twist one end and wrap it with tape, then I put a hose clamp around it for bonus points. Then fill it up with sand and do the same with the other end. Works real good, cause when you drop it, it’ll expand instead of busting. You could even drop that into a duffle so you don’t smell like rubber afterwards.
As a retired professional firefighter, I highly recommend sandbag training for firefighters especially laying down and dragging a sandbag across the floor. Great workout for firefighters
Was it planned for you, your wife, and Nic to all make sandbag videos? (still waiting for Olu, I’m joking... mostly) You stills all manage to have fresh takes and ways of explaining how useful sand bags are. Great video, and great unofficial Neversate series!
Right specific training is everything not only specific training for conditioning and weight training plyometrics but I deal with mental training also because the mind is even more powerful than the strength that you're lifting right now for you'll only go as far as your mind so the mental training and then the physical training to match and then it's not good enough to use go in there every day and do the same workout every day and impress everybody that's not it you're trying to improve right and you're trying to be the best that anybody can be so you have to have that exit you're trying to get better than everybody else that you're trying to be number one not number five not number 100 not 1,000 you have to have a specific goal and so you have to match your training goals and your mental edge with who you want to become you can't just say that you want to be number one the world that's not specific
Well, 2 years removed from watching this video the first time and I finally made a DIY sandbag. I think I may be hooked on using strongman implements now.
" ...a bag of dog food or dead body. All of those great moments in life you're not expecting." I'm a mortician AND a dog owner. These will be great for me!
Was not expecting that. I'm sold. 😂😂😂
I'm a firm believer that when it comes to gym equipment, it's either buy nice or buy twice.
My experience exactly. I've had a pair of straps, a lever belt and two dipping belts break on me because I didn't want to spend too much. Had to end up getting the quality stuff anyway lol
That's everything!
Buy once cry once
Sometimes that’s a calculated choice. If you do t have the cash to put down on top quality equipment its ok to get some cheaper now with the expectation of replacing in the future.
I’d rather train with cheap kit than not train until I can afford better.
Most of my equipment is either fabricated myself (welded) or modified.
At 6:32, in the background, I saw a person lifting an atlas stone with a leg cast on...I officially have no excuses. Love this content.

what is your program? I'm in a similar situation!
Sandbags part 2? Yes, please.
I filled my bags with steroid needles. Every time I pick up a 300 lb bag, I become strong enough to pick up another bag. Now I carry around 10 bags.
Nice.
ha...ha.haaa...such a great joke...so funny...u should be a comedian 🤡...fckin idiot
This is so dumb.... 🤦♂️
Check out Roidula on Tee Public. Show your love for the roid!!!!
This is so funny ... 😅
Dirty needles bag carry that is extreme
The Steele lol
For intensity lol
Gives that extra kick of adrenaline
for when you're really hardcore
Just make sure u use ur old tren needles so u get a intraworkout boost
Just ordered a bunch of sandbags for my home gym yesterday! So happy to see this video today! I requested this video from you earlier this year
Which bags did you order? Do you like them?
Hey Brian, loved the video and will definitely have a go at making some sandbags, I think they'll help massively with my work (car and truck tyre fitter).

"...a bag of dog food or a dead body"
Hol up. One of these things is not like the other.
Hahaha
both of them aren't like the other
Yeah who has trouble picking up dog food?
Doggo has different opinion
Carol Baskin recommends rubbing sardine oil on the body first, then its dog or big cat food.
Flipping rolled up bounce houses is amazing workout. Was a delivery driver for few years and unreal the strength you gain from it
Brian thank you for all your awesome content. Because of some things you have provided programing and finisher stuff I finally broke the 405 deadlift..
And I feel on top of the world today
I just started using sandbags. As a conditioning circuit after my main lifts. It’s such an awesome tool. Thanks Brian, I’m a huge fan.
I bought a 150lb bag. Just filled it yesterday. There's sand everywhere. I dont mean its spilled from the bag, it's just managed to get everywhere from when I filled it. It's in my kitchen, my bedroom, front porch. Like magic sand.
Definitely want that part 2
I got my 200 lb sandbag off amazon. Company named shogun was 45 dollars and ive had 2 years. Never had any issues. No holes or leaks.
It’s scary how I was sitting at work yesterday thinking, I need to make some sandbags to train with... and BOOM here comes Brian with the knowledge
Purchased a sand bag, now off to home depot for some sand.
Love the name hehehe
@@gunfighterdrummer thank you
Go to a beach that’s not busy lol
@@MrHankHill so we go to the beach for sand?

Watching past Brian Alsruhe videos while he uploads a new one.... ☺ Its like you knew what I wanted.
I’ve just been looking around TH-cam for a good sandbag video the past couple of days so you must have read my mind! Definitely up for a part 2 video!
I used the cerberus ones, really tough.
I just recently bought a 200 lbs sandbag. It's a cylinder style bag(and not a sack style), but I still use liner bags because I'd like to be able to adjust the weight and use it indoors during winter without any risks.
Thank you Brian. I have a 190 I was training with. I weigh 213 time to add 23lbs to that bag. Love the videos brother
Please do a part 2. I learned a lot from this video!
Appreciate how in depth and comprehensive the explanations are.
Your information snd knowledge is tremendous. Great job good sir.

Not going to lie, I misjudged you at first Brian, my apologies. Well done, thought out, entertaining, and informative video. Definitely subscribed.

Was thinking about getting a sandbag to practice carrying a casualty. Thanks for the help.
Thanks for the info on sandbags Brian. It's good to hear you sounding better in yourself!
I have been waiting for this one for a while. Super happy for the sandbag video, thank you Brian!
fighting with the bag trying to get those last few meters is the really character building part of it :)
Yes! Sandbag workout video
Just ordered one for my garage gym today.....perfect timing for the video, Thanks!!

Yes to this! And YES to part 2!
Martins has his monster 400lbs bag 😳
Damm
Got every bit of hard to find info I've been searching for , thank you !
Thanks Brian for all you do.
Finally some sandbag representation!!@
I am just starting out with sandbags..my arms are burning and I am only 3 days in

Don’t even have to watch the video to know it’s worth it but I’m still gonna watch !
I just got two sandbags 75kg and 100kg to use for MMA/BJJ S&C
YES YES YES on everything you said about other sandbag videos.
I found some videos on making my own sandbag that I plan on doing for myself.
Dirty needles and a dead body reference in the same video! The bar has been set!!
Would love to see a sequel to this showing how it looks when someone with a smaller body lifts the bag and also making your own sandbags

if you have a bag that's too big, try just mixing in buckwheat hulls with your sand to fill out the volume.
Helpful and even offered diys to get started! : )
Luckily here in Vancouver, there's a plethora of dirty needles handy.
hey how can i minimize back pain and cramps with muscles that are next to the spine? Anterior.. something? when doing sandbag exercises
Change your diet. You’re doing something wrong if that’s happening
Thank you, Brian. please have more on the sandbags.

Yes! (On the additional sandbag content)
Thanks Brian. Looks like I am making a sandbag tonight. Atlas stones can wait a bit.

Always loved sandbags. Carries shouldering and squats. Good times
Well, 2 years removed from watching this video the first time and I finally made a DIY sandbag. I think I may be hooked on using strongman implements now.
Thanks Brian
This is a real life situation workout that's why i love it
Awesome content as usual. Thank you. Really glad your health problems are getting sorted. I love the channel
"If you can pick up a 300 pound sandbag, you can pick up a 300 pound absolutely anything else"
The intro has straight up facts already.
Looking forward to part 2!
What would you recommend for progressing to heavier sandbags to get stronger and lift heavier?
Julian Pineau from strongfit has sandbags for sale. He also has a clever way to seal them.
That's so cool ! Please, do another on (natural) stones !! :D
Boxing heavy bag is a good alternative I got done working with it this morning
very interested in that second sandbag video!
Has anyone ever told you you look like John Cena's high energy brother? You're a motivator!
Please make the sandbag video number 2!
Would you really pass up an opportunity to lift a 500 lbs sandbag?
@Austin I bet Brian Shaw could do it.
Just ordered a bunch of dirty needles for my sandbag cant wait
“If you can’t make your own store bought is fine”
Would love to see part 2!!
Awesome. Thank you!
Sandbag challenges would be awesome.
