@@ReefDudes We moved from Phoenix Az to Great Falls Mt. Wife and kids never saw real snow. Loaded them up and drove to the nearest resort, rented boards and boots and we did our thing. We were all beat up and bruised that day, but on the way home my wife asked what time we were getting up to head back to the resort. Following week, we bought everyone their own gear. It cost a ton, but I'd returned from a deployment and had money to spend. What better thing than to spend it on the family. We were at that resort every weekend during the season for the next four years. I do miss it, but at 51, I dont think my body can do it anymore.
Great fact/observation based treatment plan! Just bought that book through your link, looks like a great tool to know what I’m looking at. Can’t wait to see more microscope content from you in the future!
Sound like you had way better luck with the peroxide than I just did. Was dealing with some really nasty dinos very recently. Upping nutrients, 24w UV sterilizer on a 100g tank, drastically cutting light intensity, didn't work. Tried the H2o2 and all that did was wipe out a half-dozen of my SPS corals. They weren't happy already, but went into full tissue necrosis within 3 days of starting the dosing. A 5 day total blackout, microbactor7 dosing, and 20/hr day UV finally seems to have gotten it under control.
It all depends on the type of Dino. Some UV is effective. Some lights out where other strains could care less about it. It’s all about know I got what your dealing with. I do t think H2o2 causes rtn unless it was too much for too long (or a smooth skin) as I have used it as a coral dip foe many things in my frag tank in the past
The second link (t490) is the one I have. Except I went with led version rather than the halogen bulb. Most people prob don’t need as fancy but I wanted the camera port for content purposes :)
Like deep water acropora. Only ones I have found don’t fair well in a quick H2o2 dip. May be others. Stuff like zoas are perfectly fine as long as you don’t leave them in too long
Great video. Do you know if you can just dose 1ml of 3% per 10 gallons of peroxide or does it have to be spot treated directly on it? I have heard that method van help with a certain dinoflagellates.
@@ReefDudes thanks for that, I have 3 tanks 1 of which I started with dry rock and green hair algae grows too well in there. I've battled cyano then dinoflagellates in it. To beat the dino I raised the temp to 82 and then a few 3 day blackouts got rid of it for over 4 months now, just GHA is in its place. I might try just dosing the tank as opposed to spot treatment as its everywhere.
I find it extremely interesting that in my tanks I can have .08 phosphates and my glass will stay clean for days It’s a much different story when the tank has a lot of “food particles” breaking down I notice that feeds algea like none other as well as cyano and dinos which are all autotrophic but also Heterotrophic I’ve started tanks from dry rock and as long as I’ve kept clean filter socks everyday-2 days tops and a well tuned skimmer no ugly phase ...Jake Adams also just started a new tank and has stayed very clean as well... I’m a fan of low nutrient coralline algea covered tanks with heavy feeding input and heavy export just my .02 🙃
Is it safe to dip candycane coral with 3% peroxide, because I have some GHA in a hard to reach spot of my candy cane coral colony. I'm afraid it doesn't work with LPS such as candycane coral. Thanks in advance for this video.
I haven’t tried that one but the alage would be on skelletons and not the flesh. You could always jsit dip the lowe branch part abs leave the heads out :). It paint the H2o2 on the spot with a brush
Do you know if the HP bath (1min-1.5mins) work for other softies like mushrooms and branching GSP? Have some algae giving me issues on the plugs housing those softies but I’m too scared to try HP bathing them...
I’m nature algae is everywhere. What we are trying to accomplish is unnatural. With that said we need to do something unnatural to have algae free tank.
You asked about fish to remove it. In my experience, which is quite short, I have found that they don't like algae that is long and stringy. Even my urchins, which are great at removing fresh algae, don't eat it once it gets more than a couple millimeters long.
@@Healeyjet Tuxedo urchins do a great job at it in a reef tank! I debated it but see it trouble in a frag tank :P to many frags to pick up and joyride around !
Thank you so much. It is great to live in a place that gets so much snow. I love Vermont!!!
Nice! The ski hill is only 45 min away so it’s lots of fun!
Thanks for the link to the guide, just ordered a copy to be sent internationally
Definitely a book I need in my arsenal! Great info!
I do miss the days of snowboarding in Wa Id and Mt. Nothing beats fresh powder.
So true!! Love fresh powder!

So glad I found this. I've been playing with a $15 microscope and I'm identifying a ton and learning more
Awesome! love to hear it!
Great job Devon. Mexican turbos and urchins destroyed mine in the past.

Awesome! will work on more of it :D
One word vibrant
Love these informational videos with a microscope!
Does the book explain how to get rid of the different types of algae. I just ordered the book, I just need to scope.
ATI ICP test checks ur rodi for silicates,
I actually did one on my waterbox. I do have a different rodi system on this tank so may be a bit off but similar. There was some silicon in there

Microscopy of common reef pests would be very helpful!
Awesome, ill start building up a list as i find them! :D
what about gonis is this safe for them
Thank you for showing this book can you give any good info on corals books .iv learned so much from you you have very good info shows.
Much appreciated! Happy to hear it helps!
Thanks for the video. Yes dig deeper
Awesome!
Is the microscope you linked the one in your video? if not, what is the one you are currently using?

@@ReefDudes Ahhh...I guess it helps to expand the description...LOL...thanks for the quick response! Happy Reefing!!!
Great advice as usual. So, how many days apart can we repeat dipping and dosing the tank?
Very interested in this since i identified dino with microscope after your other video 👍🏽👍🏽
Awesome!
Awesome video keep it up What the name bottle brother??
You just need 3% hydrogen peroxide (H2o2). Most grocery stores, pharmacy’s, dollar stores Ect carry it. Pretty easy to find
@@ReefDudes nice 👌 thank you for the information brother 🙏 stay safe🙏

Love your sight dude , we need you to talk about perimeters and feeding 😂was just going to ask have you been boarding 🤣 lucky so and so 😢😃👍🏴
Have you tried peroxide dip on montiporra and lps like chalices?
Mounti yes. Chalices yes.
Smooth skins? Like gsp? Clove p.?

Yep it can help in general for alage and some Dino. Spot treating is the most effective but either way helps!

any luck on the Chrysophytes? Any advice?
Will it kill bad sponges
I have not tried on a sponge but I think there is a good chance it would
Your board skills are impressive but your camera person is outrageously skilled! Drone?
Heheh that’s all me with a 360 camera :). Debating starting a second channel with my other random non reefing adventures :)

You probably noticed that Derbersia, like Bryopsis, are not very palatable to the clean up crew. Good news is that Fluconazol also kills them too.
I’m really curious to see if the H2o2 takes it out. Good to know fluconazol works as the backup plan!
@@ReefDudes how did this go?
How did you beat the chrysophytes? I’m currently dealing with them
Would you do a peroxide dip on a sick coral?
If it was sick from some type of bacteria infection it would likely help
Is h202 effective in treating ich ? Heard mixed reviews
Humblefish was researching a bit of a fish dip/bath with it.
Will try this because so far Fluconazol hasn't done anything.
I'm dosing hydrogen peroxide to kill of cyano I can't seem to find if i need to turn off skimmer ?
your fine to leave it on.

Soft corals should be fine. It’s really only acros to be a little more cautious with
@@ReefDudes cool thanks, I’ll try it out with the shrooms that grow outta control.
Can the crysophytes be effected by the Hydrogen peroxide
Ill try spot treating some and see if it reacts! :)

Why not just get a fish (tang, lawn mower blenny) to do the work?
There is a yellow tang in there. Doesn't seems to do much to help it
