When I was in Ranger school we learned this and used it on patrols, mostly at night. The first guy had to swim over to tie the rope to the tree. People cross over by tying a rope around their chest and using a biner clip to slide along the rope. This prevents drowning due to equipment and fatigue. The last guy is left and the side with everyone there unties the rope so it is loose and can be untied by the last guy. The last guy ties the rope around his chest and is pulled across the river.
The best overview I've seen on you-tube.
This was exactly what I needed. Quick, clear, and easy. Thank you!!
