  • A virtuoso on the traditional jazz instruments of saxophone and flute, Yusef Lateef also brings a broad spectrum of sounds to his music through his mastery of such Middle Eastern and Asian reed instruments as the bamboo flute, shanai, shofar, argol, sarewa, and taiwan koto. A major force on the international musical scene for more than six decades, he was one of the first to bring a world music approach to traditional jazz. Jazz writer A.B. Spellman spoke with Lateef about his early influences and finding a musical voice.

Yusef Lateef was a brilliant artist on tenor sax, flute, oboe, bassoon, and many non-western instruments for 75 years, from 1938-2013. He was also a prolific composer, educator, and author. In this interview we meet the soft-spoken gentleman who patiently mentored so many young musicians.

oddly the only thing I didn't care for in this interview was the back round music-when someone like Yusef Lateef is being interviewed, I want to be able to hear him, not the music

Thanks for the upload. Yusef was a wonderful musician, with a great sound on his many instruments. He added a spark to Cannonball's group when he was with them, and made the performances much more interesting.
What a tragedy that he was deceived by islam. That allah thing doesn't even exist. There is only one God (I Timothy 2:5) and his name is Jesus (John 1:1 & 14 and I Timothy 3:16). One can only go to heaven if he trusts in the blood of Jesus to wash away all sin.
Don't make the same mistake, dear friend. Get saved by accepting the Lord Jesus Christ as your personal Saviour. Here is how
"All have sinned and come short of the glory of God." (Romans 3:23)
"Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; and ... he was buried and ... he rose again the third day according to the scriptures." (I Corinthians 15:3-4)
"The blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin." (I John 1:7)
"Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved." (Acts 16:31)
