    Fun fact: my mom was the head of Broadway Dance Center when Mr. LaDuca was just an intern there. They remained friends, my father (a dance photographer) did photos for him. When I was born and my parents got divorced, I was often babysat by "Phil" (but Mr. LaDuca to me) because my dad would have a photo shoot and "not know what do with her". He used to have a store on 9th down in the 30's but now he moved to 48th (right down the block from my school actually!)
    And I never really realized that he was a big deal until I was hanging out with some dancer friends and one girl was bragging about her *LaDucas*.
    Anyways he's lovely and #hellskitchen

Yes, they did go through the process on how a custom designed shoe I done, they take didn't go into all that much detail on the process of the making of the shoe. The Duka-guy said they were more comfortable. I can just imagine, they have a bigger heel to reduce injuries and they might have a layer in the skin colour of the dancer to make the shoe more comfortable while still having the look of an open cut shoe

    • @avivabush2053
      @avivabush2053 6 ปีที่แล้ว +94

      LaDuca’s have a very flexible sole that allows dancers to move a lot more than with a traditional heel. The middle area of the sole allows the foot to be flexed and pointed very easily and the shoe molds to the dancers foot a lot more than with a traditional heel.

    These shoes are absolutely gorgeous, but my concern is that they've made 3-inch heels the industry standard, instead of the 2-inch heels that were standard for 150 years.
    The higher the heel, the more harmful it is for the back, joints, and muscles, because it throws the posture out of alignment. To compensate for the heel height, the chest must thrust forward, and the buttocks must thrust backwards. When you hear of dancers having to use ice-baths and physiotherapy, because of what they're doing in a show, there's something very wrong.
    High heels were originally invented not for walking, but for horseback riding. The wealthy upper-classes then adopted them as a fashion statement: "We're so rich that we can wear these shoes because we don't NEED to walk."

    • @dustercat21
      @dustercat21 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Just remember, these shoes have a dancers flexibility to them so it still allows the foot to move freely and naturally while still being supported. Also, with a 3 inch heel, it allows for the flexibility to work with the shoe for toe pointing so its more supporting to the foot than a 2 inch.

    Sad the base is so expensive. But that is understandable.
    I want them just for a dress shoe! I like the traditional looking heels,(max heel hight 2 1/2 though) , and they are impossible to find! And these sound so comfy! Most modern shoes hurt my feet.
    These sound like they are made actually for your feet and not just boards you strap your feet too.
    I like to square dance and tryed wearing a modest dress pump (not high, just maybe a 1 1/2 heel) had them for years. But my feet where talking. Believe it or not I found my well broken in fat baby boots the most comfortable, and they are well broken in. Definitely more comfortable to have shoes that move with your foot then hinder it's natural movements.

      They’re still pricey, but you might want to look at American Duchess shoes. Their heels are usually around 2” and they’re centered more under the heel of the foot and feel much more stable than modern heel styles.

      @Alexandra Ulrike Zahar - LOL indeed! 🤗 Words and their use are so important. Families are built or destroyed by use of correct or wrong words, nations rise and fall in like manner. Let's choose our words wisely and carefully. The Capezio tap shoes remind me of the 1920s, 1930s flappers of long ago. 🙂

    $215?! With this much work how are these not thousands of dollars?

    • @victoriadiesattheend.8478
      @victoriadiesattheend.8478 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Quiet already. Shoemaking is literally a dying art and this is an actual location in Manhattan that still MAKES SHOES. Are you trying to bankrupt everyone? $215 is the price for their off the rack shoes. Meaning, not custom! Not made to fit the individual! And THAT, and the fact that the place is still around, is what makes them basically shoe making royalty. So that $215 sort of doesn't exist, because if you want the *real* LaDuca shoe made for you, then you are looking at way more. They START there.

    I would like to know if the Rockettes and other professional dancers break in their shoes the way professional ballet dancers do.

    • @Uhhbyeee
      @Uhhbyeee 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      They do!

    • @godlesslippillow
      @godlesslippillow 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The process of breaking in shoes depends on the shoe and the individual dancer. I wouldn’t beat up a pair of jazz, tap, or canvas ballet slippers like we see with ballet pointe shoes. I had a pretty standard sized wide foot so I wouldn’t have to do much to any shoe I bought. It would take like a week or two of regular classes for me to break in new shoes. If they are brand new out of the box I would wear them for short periods of time around the house too. Especially if they were high heeled. If the shoes are real leather it does take a bit for the leather to warm, stretch, and mold to your feet. The rest is just normal shopping choices and maintenance like any regular shoe. Wearing tights and socks to prevent blisters, specific insoles, adjust the outer sole to increase or decrease traction on the floor/ ground, clean, moisturize the leather, switch out the laces to make them pretty, or easier to put on et cetera

    Yah "infamous" has a negative connotation. Probably an inappropriate use of that word in this case if you're trying to draw positive attention to the company.

    Fabiana you should know the difference between famous and infamous. You described DeLuca shoes as ‘infamous’. I only point this out because as a journalist words are important for describing items. And, to be honest, I used the word infamous incorrectly and was told by my bosses boss to know words before I speak them. Anyway, cool story.

      I hste how female ballroom dancers, even on DWTS, have to dance in heels, very sexist.

    • @bellarotker7160
      @bellarotker7160 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      LindaLuxable actually, we dance in heels because they actually help us dance. For example, in flamenco, a Spanish dance, we use heels to produce rhythm right from our feet. High heels are essential for some dances, such as flamenco, salsa, rumba, ballroom, foxtrot, and many others.

    • @choirkitty
      @choirkitty 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@LindaLuxable heels also add to the overall line of the dancer in which it extends the foot to a graceful pointed toe. And shoes like ballroom heels and these LaDucas with their flexible soles lend to that ability to gracefully point the toe
