    If you have a spray bottle of water with you when you cut, you can spray the cut and the cutting to stop the bleeding almost instantly and prevent getting it on anything. Be aware that you should wear protection if you have a latex allergy.

    Nice job. Unless you have extremely bright light, all types of indoor ficus will end up leggy and defoliated. The way out is chop the entire plant in pieces and replant the cuttings and restart it all again.

  • @1andycandy639
    @1andycandy639 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Thanks for this video! I've been looking everywhere for resources on the best way to propagate this tree. Questions, have the roots of the mother plant gotten too big for this pot yet since it's grown so much? When do you repot as opposed to just cutting it back/propagating? Thanks! ❤️

    • @DrunkenHomemaker
      @DrunkenHomemaker  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great question! It has and honestly its on my 'to do' list to repot but cut away some of the root so i can put it in a smaller pot. Now that the plant is smaller it definitely doesn't need that giant root ball to support the growth. As for your question, it's entirely up to you how you want to attack the issue. If you like how your rubber plant is growing and if the roots look healthy no need to do anything. If you're plant is too heavy or tedious to repot you may want to just top dress it with worm castings. Feel free to dm me via insta if you want to ask questions and send pics of said plant!

    This is such a helpful video. My rubber tree is 1.5m tall and is just a single stem. It's drooping so I really need to cut it to help new stems to grow. How long did you keep it in the water? It seems like the soil method is better. I live in a tropical country so is the plastic still needed?

    • @DrunkenHomemaker
      @DrunkenHomemaker  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I do think water propagation is more difficult with rubber plants. I will be doing an update video soon. If you have higher humidity levels, i would skip the plastic cover and try the soil propagation. You'll just have to check that it's moist a lot more often. Hope that helps!

    • @DrunkenHomemaker
      @DrunkenHomemaker  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      If so, Rubber Plants are hardy to your zone (jealous) so you can definitely propagate outdoors. I would just be careful to not put it in full sun while its forming roots. You want to put it somewhere its protected then slowly acclimate it to being in the scorching Florida sun. The leaves can definitely burn if you don't do it slowly.

    Hi! This video is so educational; thank you! My rubber plant has many small, very vertical stems, with leaves only at the top, therefore, I am looking to propagate it, as in your video. However, I left my boyfriend to water while I was away and now the plant is dehydrated. Do you suggest waiting until it is healthy again before proceeding/stressing it out or is it okay to do so now while the leaves are droopy (not yellow from over hydration)? Thank you!

    How long it takes to root in water?

    If I propagate with water only, how often should I change the water? And when I use perlite? T.y.

    Quick question, using the water method, how much time does it take for the cutting to grow its roots before it is ready to be planted into soil?

    Thanks I have a variegated fig (c/o my neighbors over hanging branches) just wondering do I have to put a plastic bag over it for soil propagation? I live in a temperate/subtropical climate and I get the green house effect but I would rather not if possible?

      I don't think you need to use the plastic bag, try it without and if you're seeing the plant struggling, add it! Hope that helps.

    Hi! How long water propagation takes? Should I use some root harmone as well for fast results? Just did mine and can’t wait to see the results ☺️

    Do you place the water propagating rubber cutting in a bright area? Thanks!

    • @DrunkenHomemaker
      @DrunkenHomemaker  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Bright, indirect light is ideal for propagation!

    I got several heart attacks looking at you cutting the plant. Please do a follow-up video of these cuttings and the mother plant to give me the courage to cut my plant :D

      Hahaha! That's funny! Follow up coming either this week or next!

    The end result was very triggering indeed! LOL
    I tried propagating some full cuttings like that in water and it did not work. The stems roted at the base and no roots were formed. I then cut the roted parts and tried the zip lock bag method. Same thing. Now I'm left with just two leaves in two separate stems so I cut them right below and right above the leaves, and placed the entire stem on water (with the leaves poking out). Here's hoping this is the one that works for me.

      Thank you so much for the sub! Update video coming tomorrow. Rubber plants are definitely more stubborn to propagate! I had mixed result as well. I'll be very honest in my update video.

    Hey! Do you just use tap water? Or do you need distilled?

    • @DrunkenHomemaker
      @DrunkenHomemaker  3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi I have a question I want to do a water propagation for a ruby variety however I really dont wnt my plant to die of shock how due transition your water cuttings to soil in a way they dont die and how long do water propagation roots take to show up

    • @DrunkenHomemaker
      @DrunkenHomemaker  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, Nisha! Definitely check out my update video. I learned a lot from propagating. Good question on the transition. Keep the soil moist until the plant looks healthy then gradually let the soil dry out more and more before watering. Hope that helps. Rubber plants are pretty good at letting you know when they're unhappy, lol.
