Thank you for sharing with us and congratulations on all you accomplished! Hope you show us when you go back and get to spend a more enjoyable time taking in the scenery!
Thank you for sharing your journey! Your videos have been a great help to me as I've been planning for next year. Perhaps doing gear, resupply, logistics and other PCT videos will help to keep your post trail spirits up as well as continue to motivate you to complete the trail next year. I personally would so appreciate you sharing your knowledge and experience. Thanks for being you! 💛🌻
Hi Heather. You have made the right decision. My advise to you is not to focus on finishing the PCT, but to focus on your amazing accomplishments, on your adventures crossing creeks and snow fields, and the astounding beauty you experienced. Live in the present! Best to you Heather.
So glad your being so sensible for you a d potential rescue personal. Sorry for the interrupted goal a d look forward to hearing your enjoying the trail when you get back out there
You did your best Skipper. Chalk it up to 2020. It's just a weird year. You learned so much, survived every challenge and will get to tell this tale for the rest of your life. And you have the tape to prove it. You inspired!
wow, you did the right thing that's for sure... and completed more of the trail than alot of people in better years. You should be very proud of what you accomplished, even if you never take another step on the PCT ... be proud and happy
I am glad you kept us up to speed on what you are doing. At this time I agree that you have made the right decision for you. Your health comes first, and between the fires and your asthma, you would be taking a real chance for now. I have been watching the fire progression this year and it is historic. You have done what only about 2% of the population has accomplished, but sometimes logistical roadblocks drop in front of you that keep you from accomplishing your goal. Although it might not be a traditional “Through Hike”, if you go out next season and complete the remaining miles, it should definitely fulfill your checklist of having completed the PCT. You owe none of us an explanation of your decision, but thanks for taking the time to share the reasons. Look forward to future postings. I am still as subscriber so if something new comes out I will see it. You are awesome, and have allowed some of us to live out our dreams vicariously through your journey. Thank You. On to the next adventure. Trek On!!!
Just a crazy year. I think you are making the right decision for your health and well being. And a really tough one. The bright side is, now you have another adventure to look forward to!
What an amazing feat you've accomplished. Imagine through all that stress with the fires. You can still get your end2end certificate if you complete it next summer? Looking forward to hearing about what you choose for your next pack.. and tent? cheers!
It won’t be a through hike although it would be considered a completion of the trail via section hike. I don’t know if the PCTA would award the certificate however. They released a statement that they will not recognize anyone who hiked in 2020.
1996 miles on the pct , under the most intense conditions .. trail mileage might be a little short , but you have completed an epic journey ,, saw things that you never seen .. made some new friends and shared them with complete strangers .. a gear review video would be cool . thank you for taking me along . respect "cat" from pa .
So sorry that Mother Nature took this turn of events, but you’ve made the right decision. I’m in Oregon and was section hiking on the PCT not too far from Windigo Pass the day the Oregon wind storm hit & the fires kicked into high gear. Leaving the trail and not completing that section was a difficult decision. Had I continued, I could’ve been in a deadly or very serious situation as a fire broke out just north of Crater Lake, and I was headed SOBO, so it’s possible that I could’ve walked right into it. I’ve enjoyed watching your videos and wish you all the luck going forward! PS - please come back and finish Oregon - it’s going to look drastically different, but I can guarantee you.... you skipped the prettiest part of Oregon and it’ll still offer some gorgeous views 😊
You've done a great job! I agree, your making the right decision, asthma is nothing to fool around with. Will be looking for you on your journey in the future. So glad I started following you from seeing you with Roadkill and Goldielocks.
I've enjoyed watching your videos. To bad lt had to end for now this way. You are making a wise decision. I will look forward to seeing the finish when you decide it time.
Sad not to be able to watch you on the trail. But we all knew it would end. You are awesome so glad you kept going with Roadkill and Goldilocks. Hope you can get a permit next season to finish those mile. 😘😷
Appreciate the vid, Skipper! Roadkill informed me a couple of days ago of the decisions you all had, basically, been forced to make... bummer! But, live to fight another day! Well, we'll hope 'enjoy' rather than 'fight'! I've enjoyed your vids, and hoped to meet you with some TM somewhere between Snoqualmie and Rainy!! Hope you're able to get back out next summer! But we've got to survive this crazy political MESS first. Welcome back to the 'unreal' world! Take care, Girl! and keep us informed of new plans.....
We're sorry to see you have to leave "early", but... Hike your own hike. The PCT will still be here next year, in all its glory. Take care of yourself, and we are looking forward to next year.
I have a question..I know you skipped a hunk of the dessert section, because of the weather. I really don't have any desire of hiking the whole desert section. But thought I might skip a section like you did. I was wondering if you regretted doing that ?
I actually flip flopped. So I temporarily skipped the section because of weather and completed the rest of the desert by flipping to a different spot and hiking that. Then I flopped back and completed the section I missed. The section I did out of order was the high desert and ended up getting 4 feet of snow dumped on it in a 6 day storm. Therefore I did the whole desert section . I did skip a 299.1 mile section of Oregon and was unable to complete about 356 miles of Washington. That said, I don’t regret flip flopping. I don’t regret skipping northern Oregon as due to the fires I would not have likely been able to safely complete that section as it was. I sometimes regret not finishing Washington (when I see others posts about finishing on FB), however I know that was the right decision for me due to smoke, fires, and (now that I’m watching people still out there like I would be) weather. I believe I had to skip the most beautiful part of Oregon and some of the most beautiful parts of Washington. Having done all of the desert, I would say that there are certainly many beautiful parts. If I were going out there knowing I was going to skip some sections and do a LASH rather than a through hike. I would skip some sections of the desert and Northern California. I would make sure to still do some of the high desert and the walker pass area. I didn’t much like the aqueduct. The Warner springs area was amazing and one of my favorite parts of the desert. Of course I did it after a ton of rain so there was plenty of water and tons of green plants and blooming flowers. I would say do whatever makes you happy! You could always go back and do the other sections a different season if you feel you were missing out. My videos have pictures and videos from every day that I was hiking, that may give you an idea of what areas you might enjoy and what you won’t. Just keep in mind the weather and the fact that some of these sections may have burned this year. There are also a lot of other channels and videos on TH-cam that have video and pictures of all the sections of trail that you could watch to help you decide. I hope this helps!
@@heatherdelfs3512 thank you so much for all the information and now I have much more to think about.... I think you made the right decision for yourself.. The smoke could have killed you. take care
After you've visited your family and friends, if you can't decide what to do next and post trail depression sets in I would love to watch you hike the Florida trail. It would take about 2 months 2020 can still be saved.
I would love to keep hiking this year but it’s time to make a living for awhile to fuel my future adventures. Maybe one of those would be the Florida Trail.
You are wise. Fire fighters first priority is to protect homes and structures. If they have to go after you potentially dozens of people and domestic animals could lose their lives, not to mention the rescuers. You have a really good attitude and plan. It’s not worth endangering your life or the lives of others. Totally wise to come back. I know you feel like you didn’t complete your goal, remember your words in the past about unexpected blessings. Things don’t always turn out as we plan but sometimes those unplanned journeys turn into blessings. Keep processing, keep enumerating your struggles and successes. That will help you process. Keep up the good work. You are a hiking beast and I know you will have many more hikes in your future. ❤️❤️❤️

Sorry to hear . But your health is first. Stay safe. Think about how far you did hike.
You made a good discussion to take care of you first, always more time to hike later
