My first job was as a dishwasher and later a cook at the one in Palatine IL. Ho Jo's was always a go to place for those family car trips. Not to mention the rare times our parents could afford to take all us kids out for dinner.

I grew up in S. Florida in the 50's and our Family of five were able to afford a Restaurant treat several times a year. We always went to Howard Johnsons. I loved that place. My favorite was always the Tommy Tucker Platter. I am so sad to see it go, it was a wonderful place for a Family Dinner. Me and my 2 brothers always looked forward to going. To me back then it was the very definition of Quality and prices that my Dad could afford. Even the architecture of the building with the orange roof was comforting.

Every Friday night my family and I would go to the Howard Johnsons in Frederick Maryland for dinner I usually got the clams with fries and Cole slaw and a sundae for dessert. The Howard Johnsons in Frederick became a Bobs Big Boy. I was a server for Bobs Big Boy I worked in both Bobs locations in Frederick the old Howard Johnson’s and the other big boy location in Frederick both Bobs Big Boy locations closed in Frederick and the old HoJo building was torn down

Howard Johnson's were once as profligate as Starbucks. Now, they're just a distant memory.

14,000 cones in one day would be about a cone every 6 seconds for 24 hours straight.

Mmm fried clams... all you could eat. I think I ate 'em all as a growing boy. Milwaukee WI, early '70's.
Good times, thanks for the video.

I remember the franchise in my native MD & The TV Commercials..."If it's not your mother, It must be Howard Johnson". This was in the late 70's & early 80's. I even ate there with my parents & our church people at that time.
😭To see it slowly go...A worthy product of it's time & can never be replaced.

Sucks I was born in 1998 in a fast-paced lifestyle where no one wants to eat at a restaurant anymore and they'd rather go for greasy gross fast food

Howard Johnson's had hands down the best pistachio ice cream. I have never since found any as good! 😢

Howard Johnson motel employees keep coming in to my room when I leave out. They are placing bugs in my room and messing with the toilet. They believe these psychological tactics will place fear in my heart. All this is doing is increasing my rage. 🔥

I used to love the HoJo's Daily Double...the 2 hot dogs on those toasted buns with fries. Then a dish of vanilla ice cream with the little cookie on top.

We had one in Willoughby, Ohio. It was on SOM Center road just off of I-90. I remember those fried clams well.
