or just take the gondola down. I've learned my lesson that is it at that "last run" when accidents happen (combination of being beat up/tired after a day of skiing, that lunch cocktail kicking in, sun goes down: less visibility/ flat light, midday melted snow turning into ice, unexpected weather, etc). Should we go for a last run? NO.
to the right of that rocky outcrop there is a easy way down. Known as Rock Garden, or Chicken Heuvos. Not that you would have seen that in the hellscape you were caught in. Good call on backing off.
Whats the problem...? When its bad they close the top....this is just free refills...keep going down and the mountain will protect you from the west wind... it was probably some nice windblown freshies in about 100 ft...
nothing in bear can really compare to mammoth when it comes to the steeps, id say stick to the lower 1/2 of the mountain where the winds aren’t as strong
That's why its called "Rock Garden " Strange how people come up here thinking they fully know the mountain. Because you come up and ski a few weeks out of a season for 20yrs and you still don't, but you still think you do...
What were they thinking? They obviously had no clue where they were going. Dropping into Huevos? These guys scream Kook with a capital "K". They got lucky.
Inability and wrong equipment to handle high wind/low vis, paired with lack of planning, mountain sense, or having a general understanding of layout. The socal army will probably never understand mountains or mountain culture. They think it's just another Disneyland, SeaWorld, or trip to the beach. They don't do crap outdoors beyond any metro area. Summer or winter. So when they get to a blowy day at mammy, they think they're on some extreme face in Verbier or the Himalayas. Complete kookage.
Weather turned CRAZY= LA weekenders who say bro unironically having no idea where they were going 😂 I hear big bear is much warmer, you should probably check that out next time.
This is relatively docile. I’ve been up there several times with 100mph+ winds and complete whiteout. These boys got blue skies and are sh$@ting themselves lol
@@aw5078 oh yeah keep sliding down the mountain on your ass you gaper. I bet you don't even snowboard. Just another keyboard Nazi trying to make yourself laugh. Stick to sledding with your family
As tough as this looks, respect to Ski Patrol that has to sweep a mountain in these conditions
Thanks KSA. as a former MMSPatroller. maybe hard to believe, been in condition a lot worst.
That was pretty bad condition , the wind was what made it bad.
Jerrys being Jerrys
Easy there Sponge Bob Gaper Pants.
Glad to see you turned back, definitely the best decision... I was watching thinking unclip and scramble back up 👍
lol, there were much easier ways down. You could've just gone to Dave's run.
Cheap and Certified Memes ya right

Same happened to me and I just went down cornice on heel edge 😁
Thanks for sharing this video, along with the subtitles and the map.
How did you get back down?
climbed back up to the gondola. Ski patrol starting shutting everything down...and sent folks back down on the lift
@@PowerHouseMediaSD How embarrassing. Please turn in your man card at the front desk.

Kooks! Stay off the top.
I ski the double blacks in big bear. What runs do you recommend in Mammoth for a challenge
Double blacks are blues in Mammoth.
Peter Kang wdym mammoth runs are pretty tame, try some of the wicked Colorado runs
@@pickler8359 colorado!!?? No thanks. Rather go to Jackson hole.
@@pickler8359 do Phillipes or drop cowboys and then tell me its tame. Thanks kook
Cornice Bowl is the hardest one I remember -- although Mammoth has expanded their runs considerably since I was there in the early 70s.
I'm starting work up in Mammoth and haven't boarded in heavy conditions.. only in Big bear I've boarded. any tips for a beginner ?

just think about the beach side of send in Summer then it feels hot

The upper panorama Gondola
23 and the gondola
@@thomasmaloney3741 Well you’d have to walk up to the summit if you took chair 23 or you’d have to ski uphill. But technically, yes.

Must of been before the McCoys sold with the new company always doing weather hold on the lifts once it hits 30 mph sustained.

LMAOOOOO! Yes sir, conditions look bad but a mediocre snowboarder would be able to manage just fine.
Who let these clowns out?
Doesn't look so bad.
