Sadly, said modern sequel wasn't that great. And not just because it plunges headlong into the "No, swearing and brutality are great! It's reasonably attractive women (AAH!) that will corrupt our youth!"
The arcade version is indeed big. So big that most OpenBOR roms that feature the toads as extras (and aren't trying to emulate the NES) use these versions.
I hope that at the end of this, we are going to get a "Quarter Counter" showing us how many Quarters they would've pumped into an actual arcade machine. :D

Considering that it has been my tradition since its release to rewatch the Battletoads 4-player race on Christmas, the fact that a new Battletoads series is going up on Christmas in the year 2021 has me super giddy LOL

Yeah, it really needed some short stuff interspersed throughout the series. Like do a game of Anticipation or a couple matches in Mario Golf and Splatoon, something to break up the monotony of "Prayer 1, Bonusu" Not dunking on OJ, it's been great. It just gets really old when it's all they do.

I wasn’t expecting Contra in Battletoads! Oh so, it’s like the race with Infinite lives. I wonder if there are Free Play mods of other arcade games like Rampage World Tour (probably the one they’d play. TRG Colors, a blue giant cat for Jon, a brown/red giant ape for Emile, and a green lizard for Tim His Wife). That would be neat to see on the channel. 3:10 Doesn’t look like there’s friendly fire so already better than the OG Battletoads in that regard. That’s Rareware for you. 4:53 Few are the Arcade beat-em ups where you can’t bludgeon your enemies with other enemies. 5:30 That’s only if they’re taken down by an Art or a Special (they just fade away if they’re done in by an auto-attack) and it matches the element of the Blade/Driver weapon that took them down. Also this must’ve been recorded fairly recently (like a couple weeks ago at most recently) if Emile is bringing that up now since that was only mentioned in the XC2 LP on the final episode. Or maybe he found out before then but couldn’t really point it out during the earlier episodes. 6:10 There’s still non-bottomless pit insta-kills in this one. That hasn’t changed. At least though if one person loses a life then they’re not all sent back to the last checkpoint. Oh that’s cute. Man, this is a weird nostalgia trip for me, because when I was little my parents owned a pizza restaurant and we had several arcade cabinets in the game room. This Battle Toads game was one of them and me and my cousins used to play the three player mode all the time lol. Back then, I had no idea that Battle Toads existed outside of that arcade game either, so I just thought it was a weird one off game made for arcades and junk.
I remember when I first saw this game at my local skating rink. I was both wowed and confused. All I could think was “Why did it take so long to make a Battletoads game this cool?!”

In fact that same year, a screenshot of the Korpse Kount screen came up as one of the questions for Thrown Controllers. I specifically remember Emile guessing "Battletoads the Dealer of Death" after someone had answered with Battletoads. Good times, man. Glad to see it on the channel!

This game feels very stylish and 90s, you wouldn't see this much in the mid to late 2000s up to the early 2010s. At least not outside of the bargin bin with Ninjabread Man. I appreciate the style this game oozes, I see why these games have their fans. 3 Player is also a unique thing, even though this game apparently was the only 3 player one for awhile. I imagine this won't be a long game but it's nice that they can get out a new LP at all, I was still down for a bit more OJ but it has been a very long time of just that and I imagine they're tired of recording it themselves.
On this game being "unfinished".... Stage 2 was supposed to have a boss fight against Admiral Oink, whereupon beating him you'd save Santa Claus. (Topical, I know) Stage 4 was where you were supposed to fight Karnath. Apparently there is also a dummied out stage, called "Brain Chase" which also has a track that went unused. I'm willing to bet that this is where you'd get to fight Silas Volkmire.
