I usually get to these on Sunday because I love it so much, but I missed my chance so I'm later than usual, but I'm happy to be here with you as always for ONF album listening! Whoop whoop! My Genesis - one of the many songs that kept confirming to me that ONF is MY GROUP. With the jazz elements, the energy, the horns - it's soooooooo interesting and cool. It really shows the kinds of things they can do in one song so amazingly. And not just because of Highlighter Colors Etion hehe IDK Ugly Dance is it's own thing and I love it for what it is, I have a super hard time ranking songs unless there's a clear favorite for me? I feel like Dreamer MAYBE least favorite? But... I LOVE Ugly Dance. I can't help it, it's too hype and the lyrics are so cool and the choreo is so good
“My Genesis” always gave me detective/spy anime vibes, but added to the fact that it talks about achieving the best version of yourself (based on Nietzsche’s thesis of the Übermensch/‘Superman’) makes it even more incredible as a whole! Half of City of ONF’s tracklist, including the original full album ones, talks about self-confidence and self-development (“My Genesis”, “Beautiful Beautiful”, “The Realist”, “The Dreamer”, “Ugly Dance”, “Trip Advisor” + “On-You” which is about a long-distance relationship), that is why it brought a lot of comfort to many Fuses especially during the pandemic! Checking ONF’s lyrics are always a must imo 🙂↕️
My Genesis really is just slightly bonkers and I love it! It gives you whiplash in the best way possible. And as a German I can confirm the pronunciation of Übermensch is pretty good.
I think you're so right - it has less of that more intense dynamic energy to it that he usually has - it's just sooooo layback, chill - and fairly similar in tone across the lines too. It's perfect for this song and the instrumental at that part, but definitely has that extremely casual energy to it!
it's funny that you mentioned audience participation during ugly dance because at the concert held before their military, ugly dance was! the audience participation song to dance along
Out of the three new songs in the repackaged, My Genesis (Übermensch) was the only one that really /hit/ me at first listen. I just really LOVE jazz and rock, and the song being a fusion of both just made my love for it inevitable Not that Ugly Dance and The Dreamer were bad to me-I really appreciated the composition for both ... they're just not my preferred styles and genres 😅 Ugly Dance grew a lot on me though because it's just so FUN !! So if I had to rank them, I'd say My Genesis (Übermensch) > Ugly Dance > The Dreamer I don't think anyone would blame you for putting Ugly Dance at the bottom. At this point, we already know that ONF has really good b-sides, so having those overtaking the title track shouldn't be so surprising as it doesn't take away from the appeal of the song

The outro of The Realist is the intro of The Dreamer then it comes bacl again to The Realist at the end. Looping the two is a must!
