Toney is not a boxer. He is a born fighter....very special breed. Effortless, smooth, fearless, utterly clam and utterly composed. Just born to do it. I can't think of a fighter/boxer in history as truly relaxed in the ring.
Am I the only one who thought big guy at least won the 2nd and 3rd round? Sure Toney can eat all his punches, and I don't want to downplay that, but big dude nailed him and a lesser man (than Toney) would have been wrecked.
James Toney would barely if ever do road work , mitts , heavybag or anything of that caliber , Just straight up sparring everyday whilst in camp preparing for a fight , A very unorthodox way to approach a training camp but worked well for him he believed the more you spar the more you'll learn Toney had all the basics down too a tee so padwork , bagwork etc was futile he was always in decent shape regardless.
Legendary I only wish his strength coach was banned for life that skill of James is masterful he would have a lot of 1ko's in heavyweight if more power on those counters!
@@JJ-mr9re he was never playing him out as you put it , Toney enjoyed working on the things he lacked he would set himself into positions where he felt he lacked and or needs more work this is sparring where both fighters work with each other it's not a fight theirs a huge difference.

Absolutely Toney is a Boxer. He has the heart of a fighter, but his technical ability is astounding. Bill Miller taught him perfectly.

Nobody wins and sparring dumb ass it’s to practice your craft
No one is really supposed to win sparring tho, it’s like practicing, not a competition.
James Toney had some very great sparring partners during his career. At one point all Toney did was just spar, no running.
