- Plenty of freight and parcels traffic to be had here in 1989 and
see the new class 91s with an HST power car the other end of the
mark 4 coaches as the new DVTs were not yet ready for use.
Fantastic workings and certainly variety back in 88 Colin, something we dont get now sadly. Tell you those 08/09 cant half shift, thought you had speeded up the film! Definitely a heavy 47 theme throughout, u loved this sector period, but what stiod out for me were the 37 doubleheaders in construction livery? Correct me if im wrong and thinking about i am! Apologies i did view and forgot to comment, (most unlike me) as i had already thumbs up on first viewing. As always enjoyed, wishing you a great BH weekend, sadly im working on Monday, a, total one off luckily. Semi retirement hey! Cheers Nick.
Thanks for watching and commenting Nick, i know you like these archive films so didn't want you to miss out. Yes the 37's were in railfreight distribution sector livery, as you probably know anyway. Variety was the thing in those days, with the 47's mainly in charge of all speedlink workings which tended to run via Whitemoor yard. Glad you enjoyed and sorry to hear you're working Monday lol.
All the best Nick, regards, Colin.
Excellent footage from the very month I left school. With absolutely no regrets at all.
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it., Colin.
Great bit of railway video..1-37 2-37 91 and HST at rear...Also nice handling of all our fragile parcels at 7.01 . Nice to see they were dealt with care think its still the same. 😂
Thank you for watching and commenting 👍
Nice video Colin 👍!)
Greetings from Germany.Janusch 🙂🙋♂
Many thanks Janusch 👍
Part of my stomping ground 😁 Thank you for posting such a good video Colin. That was part of a really interesting time round there: type 5s on the flyash and self-discharge trains, 37s appearing more often, the 91 / 43 combos, we still had the mail and van trains at Peterborough and some loco hauled Provincial services, plus 89 had only just stopped appearing on commuter turns. Happy days. Hope all is good. Best regards, Christian
Thanks very much Christian, i'm glad that rekindled some memories for you.
I used to call into Peterboro' regularly on my way back from Grantham in those days and it was always busy. Take care and thanks for watching, Colin.
The 47 with the ICI tanks originated from Duxford ( Whittlesford ) Ciba - Geigy works just south of Cambridge . Unusually short on this day ! As there were usually hopper wagons on in it contacting Granules of some sort of chemical ( I forget which ) and other types of tank cars . Also it usually had in the consist the daily Grain wagons from Newmarket and other bits and bobs . The Car train and the Grain wagons came from Kings Lynn !
The Redland train ( of Normal wagons ) was from Trowse ( Norwich ) , Kennet , or Barham ( Ipswich !) . The self discharge train at the end or earlier ? From many places - Langley south of Stevenage ( the first one ) as it's going down the ECML , The one at the end ? it appears to be taking the March line so I would say I think it's for either Colchester or Chelmsford ! A good idea this self discharge , but complicated and expensive and too many derailments ( too much oscillation on the four wheeled wagons !) .
Well thank you for all that great information Sam, you are or were clearly local to the area. I did quite a lot of filming at Peerborough back in those days as i had a regular delivery run to Grantham and used to stop off at PB for a few hours on my way back south. And yes those plasmor wagons have been around for a long time now, not sure if they have been refurbished at some point along the way, i would have thought so. Thank you for watching and commenting on this video,
i'm glad you enjoyed it, Colin.
@@colingarwood9971 the bow heck I think then was a speed link sirvice and I supose bigg;edswadw was also a drop off point ? as for wagons age the dropside " cage type " wgons look pritty new with clean paint think the was 3 batch or re builds and new some were Pocor ! could look up in the books !
One word sums this video up…..
Variety!!
Something that’s lacking these days.
And thought it ironic how two sector metals 37s were on oil tankers!! 😂
Yes the world of railway traction has belonged to EMD for a long time now.
Hopefully the new class 93's and 99'swill change that. Thanks for watching 👍
Metals was yellow & Blue downwards arrows, this is Speedlink diamonds.
Thank you Colin, I feel a little pissed off now watching these great days.
Sorry about that Mike, but i'm sure you enjoyed it really 😆Hope you're having better weather than i am up here mate, take care and thanks for watching, Colin.
Yes I know exactly how you feel 😢
Memories! Mk.3's are with the 91/surrogate DVT's. And nice to see TI RfD 37059 + 37272 on them TTA's!
Thanks for reminding me that the coaches were Mk.3's and thanks also for watching, it's greatly appreciated 👍 Best regards, Colin.
Excellent 👍👍
Thank you very much 👍. Regards, Colin.
The Bow / Biggleswade Breeze blocks from Heck still runs to this day !! Blimey how old are those wagons now ?
Never ever saw it with vans though !! Even in the 80s !
Peterborough before the neglect and it becoming an overgrown garden.
Yes indeed. I watched a recent video from Peterboro' the other day and couldn't believe the vegetation along the trackside. Thank you for watching, regards, Colin.
@@colingarwood9971 No problem now subscribed 😁
