- The story of the Barton Family from ITV's soap opera Emmerdale.
Synopsis: Holly panics when Dan throws her out of the flat and tells her there'll be no more freebies - if she wants drugs, she'll have to pay for them. Villagers are wary when she arrives at The Woolpack and gets wasted. Aware of the atmosphere, Holly storms out and starts stumbling around the village.
Ashley and Doug find Holly slumped in the graveyard, clearly off her head. They lead her back to Mulberry Cottage, where John and Moira collect her. Back at Butlers, Moira and John are beside themselves and vow not to let her leave this time. Can they deal with her problem on their own?

The cruel irony of Adam saying that Holly will end up in her grave if she carries on taking drugs!
Requiem For A Dream is a fantastic film and insight into how drug abuse destroys your life but I still think that this storyline blows that film out of the water. I think it's because it shows how Holly got into drugs and the slippery slope and how easy it is to have your life taken over. Tremendous acting from everyone in this storyline, definitely the hardest hitting one!

That single tear on John's face destroyed me! I'm so glad Holly's storyline is (maybe possibly) starting to look up.

so passinate. she was so in character. i almost cried too. it felt so real, i can feel for her.
now if only Aaron and Jackson could get this passion going. We need some connection from Adam and Aaron.

Holly taking drugs not right
I don't care if she'd an addict - how does that explain her nonchalant and callous attitude coming down the stairs at the beginning of this clip. When she's not high - isn't there any sense of shame, or embarrassment? I just don't get that.
I can kind of understand how an addict could lie and steal - though it's hard to fathom going as far as Holly did for me, but maybe a strong addiction would do that. Acting like nothing has happened though, even though she can't remember, thinking it's funny or something - I don't see what that has to do with addiction.
because she has stooped so low she can't feel anything anymore. There is no dignity, and no respect left in her. Why would she care anyway? She only cares about drugs
When you are in the full grip of addiction, it strips you of all shame, embarrassment, it strips you of your conscience, bit by bit, the only thing they can think of is their next fix, they might suddenly get a grip of reality but it dissolves away soon after usually because the need for the drugs comes back. Truly a horrible thing and I have seen it first hand within my family. Its a terrible thing addiction.
I didn't expect her to give up her addiction or not got for her next fix - I guess I just thought there might still be some sense of shame knowing how their family is looking at them - after such a binge. It doesn't mean they will stop, I know that. That's all I meant. Sorry if I sounded ignorant.
I didn't mean I don't care at all either - I'm actually sympathetic to addiction in many cases.
