As they should. It really shouldn't be news that WWE mentioned a all time legend just because he was in a different company. I'm guessing if Vince were still in charge this wouldn't have happened.
Sting goes undefeated in AEW which is to say the Wrestlers of today couldn't hold a candle to the wrestlers of Yesteryear when those wrestlers of Yesteryear are 60
Tony did it because he felt wwe treated him so poorly(they did). The whole point of this run was to give a legend like Sting the opportunity to leave on a positive note and to help get Darby over.
A man in his 60s shouldn't be having matches let alone burying talent that are still in their prime, when other wrestlers do it people cry and whine about it but aew fans defend anything because it's not WWE lol, hypocrites
When he came out of retirement to wrestle Jericho in that tag match back in ‘09, I lost my mind. He had total dad bod and a giant bald spot, and the obvious use of Just for Men. It looked bleak. Then he got tagged in and started wrestling, and oh my God it was like he never stopped working. The dead WrestleMania crowd (I think this went on after the Undertaker vs. HBK masterpiece. That crowd needed a smoke break afterwards) came back to life because Steamboat did his deep arm drags. He woke up a dead crowd with fucking arm drags!
Of course not, the glass could break under their weight and end up cutting them. The Bucks are experienced wrestlers, they know glass is dangerous and you could see neither of them even wanted to be near where it could spray out, lol.
Well there goes darbys friendship with Jim 😂 but tbh Jim is just mad that Darby is wasting his talent. You can see he actually cares about him. He’s the only guy from the current gen who actually cares in his own way.

@@PancakeProductyeah why he remembered it? Im not saying its good, but when people easily remember the move, than its a Win situation for the wrestler
I love Cornette, but disagree with him about Sting’s entrance. I thought the video & piano were great. I dunno what piece of music that was, but it didn’t sound like “somebody’s friend taking piano lessons.” I thought the vibe fit. And then his sons’ entrance to his AEW theme as other versions of the character, & then him coming out to Seek & Destroy. All got huge pops. Match aside, I thought the entrance was pretty much perfect.
@@Kalbuir66So what’s true? Whatever Cornette says? Objectively, that piano doesn’t sound like an amateur taking lessons. Not sure if Cornette has ever come near a piano in his life, but that piece I’m sure is pretty hard to play. Now he might not have liked the vibe, but he didn’t provide any alternative to music he would’ve used instead. Usually his analysis is very insightful, but here his criticism isn’t even useful or accurate. Regarding his suggestion about leaving some ambiguity when all the Sting’s came out through production slight of hand, I think Cornette is forgetting that the song changed in between when Sting’s sons came out & Sting. So just letting the audience know right away that these weren’t Sting made for a bigger pop when Seek & Destroy played.
@@RealMoonMaster Brian will disagree with him sometimes like with The Rock for instance, but you're right most of the time Brian just goes along with all of Cornette's whining
Darby telling Sting that Tony Khan was telling Darby to tell Sting "Don't forget to call Tony out here so that Tony can get credit for all of this." was the most "Little kid plays with toys" thing I've ever seen in my life. Only for Tony to stand in the corner & think he was going to get what? Chants? Cheers? 10% of the crowd started a "Tony" chant... everyone else was just kind of like.... Uhhhhh? AWKWARD? Meanwhile RIC FUKING FLAIR was already sent to the back because Sting WANTED him in the ring & they told him to go away while he was waiting ringside for his cue. Sad. Really sad. Also Ricky the Dragon didn't get mentioned. But I think that was just by accident.
It'd be like Vince McMahon putting himself over when Flair retired from WWE in 08. At least he knew to take a backseat to Ric that night even if he was out there. Tony just came off looking and sounding like a huge nerd (again), complete with screaming into the mic gushing over Sting. Cringe as fuck. Really if you watch Flair's retirement and Sting's back to back to go with what Cornette says here, production values are night and day. Almost feel bad for Sting to go out like that.
Its only because he actually liked Darby as a person (like Jeff Hardy, Mick Foley, & Terry Funk) before he showed what a jackass he actually is. Hell, one of the reasons Jim, JR, in the 90s basically brow beat Vince into hiring Mick & Terry was because they got tired of watching them killing themselves in FMW & IWA. That’s the level of respect Jim has for them / once had for Darby.
It was Sting's retirement match, why would they do a spot to draw all of the attention away from Sting? The glass spot is all anyone will talk about or ever remember about this match and it had nothing to do with Sting.
Ngl, I popped huge for Sting's surfer son because I was fooled too. The idea of Sting somehow going back to being Surfer Sting for his final match would've been phenomenal.
Steamboat also had a good end to his in ring career. The two matches with Jericho back in 2009 we're so much better than they had any right to be and really showed how polished he is as a wrestler. I specifically remember the Wrestlemania 25 one and it really made me search out Steamboats classic matches since i was only about 3 years old when i watched it
my favorite part was in the press conference tony khan was talking to darby about having a wrestling match in 10 days. Darby just looked at him like shit really dude i just was basically in a major car accident out here

Part of Sting not losing both his retirement match and just ever in AEW, Tony went on record saying he hated how WWE treated him. And they did him FILTHY, Ronda has a wrestlemania win and sting doesn't, he didn't even have a damn win
Darby is going to kill himself for Tony's whim. Real glass should never be used in wrestling. Not only the wrestler taking the bump can seriously end his career the shards of glass broken in impact can potentially hurt any audience members standing close to the point of impact.
@@rajakghosh6602 The funny thing is that AEW puts on a disclaimer at the start of every show that AEW is not responsible if a front row fan gets hurt from glass or whatever, but the thing is,they can get sued wheither they have that disclaimer or not lol
There’s a time and place for crazy stunts. Unfortunately, AEW inundates people with this kind of stuff. Darby probably wanted to do something memorable for Sting’s send off, so I kind of disagree with Jim’s assessment at least for this match. Random meaningless stunts on random matches with no build and no importance is dumb and contributes to inundating the audience, but special moments like this sometimes call for it. I think they could have at least went with sugar glass instead of real glass, though.
I will say it was nice to see AEW have a full arena. The Dynamite show in Duluth tonight has sold almost 3,000 tickets for an arena that can hold 13,000 people. At least Sting didn't retire while talking to an empty arena behind the hard cam.
Its kind of hilariously ironic though, I remember back in WCW how whenever Sting came down for the save and attack the NWO, the announcers would always scream "SORRY FOLKS WE'RE OUT OF TIME!!! So its truly a full circle moment for Sting! Out of time on a TNT program for his last match LMAO
The cherry on top here: Tony Khan's little attempt to circumvent responsibility for flying glass with a PSA on the board saying "You are responsible for damages if you sit on the floor seats"
You know, I remember CZW did a deathmatch with the same spot, but I was a guy do a finsher on the top of the cage they had the glass into the ring and that would not have happened if they did that as the crowd would have been further away.
A thought I had: There was a $5 Wrestling bit where a guy had a retirement match. He spent the whole match on the apron and didn't get tagged in once. This was basically that skit played straight. Think about it. Sting's entrance with his son's coming out as past versions of him? Toni did it earlier that night with Mariah May. The match itself was more about Darby killing himself and it taking 6 people to beat the Bucks. Sting's speech was cut for time. And the retirement itself is more about how great Tony is instead of honoring Sting's career.
I saw the thumbnail image of this video and I thought how great it was that Travis Heckel painted Sting's sons until I clicked on the picture and saw that it was two Sting Jim lol 🤣🤣 . Travis, you're doing a good job, You fooled me🤣🤣🤣
I dont always agree with jim but hes not wrong about darby. He really did piss away a Chance to sit under thr learning tree. He literally just doing all the same stuff hes been doing since day 1
This match was just like every other indie deathmatch, pretty sad ending for such a professional like Sting! The glass spots were definitely the point where i rolled my eyes and wanted to turn it off lol
The thing about the Darby thing was that no one was even there. Not only would you never actually try to do that in a fight, but I suppose it was so dangerous of a spot that no one could be nearby so it completely pulls you out of the match and reminds. It stops feeling like a wrestling match and starts feeling like you’re watching johnny Knoxville and Steveo and now I’m so concerned about whether or not that guy is actually hurt that I can’t get back into the match.
Kevin Owens vs Stone Cold at Wrestlemania 39, that's what Sting's last match should have been. KO could take bumps, sell and make Stone Cold's stuff look good. Everyone enjoyed it and it made both guys look good. To me, Sting became an afterthought and everyone involved should be ashamed of themselves. Should have been against FTR, they could have a great match. I hated this match!
The wrestling observer board was hilarious after this match when the promo was cut off. I went off on there about it being bush league bullshit and all the Meltzer disciples were just coming back with "well it was posted on social media" motherfucker I bought the show to see Sting's final match and you didn't leave enough time for him to say his thank you's. Cutting off Sting was a very WCW ending. Did they have Tony Schiavone screaming "FANS, WE'RE OUTTA TIME!!" right as it went to black?
I was thinking they should have cut time on some of the matches.

Darby vs Moxley : Hepatitis C cure on a pole match. Book it.
Steamboat never embarrasses you if you are a fan of his. Ultimate truth.
What about the fact that NOBODY was laying on the glass when Darby jumped on it?
Forgot about that! It wasn't an actual Pinning Predicament (although it was a definite predicament)...🤔🤦♂️🎤🤼♂️B.W.

He cares about him while he is saying he’ll shove darbys skateboard up his ass 😂
Yeah, this isn't something I would take to heart if I were Darby, but I'm not Darby. The care for his well being shows that this isn't him talking down about Darby's ability, rather it's him talking down about his judgement to do crazy stunts in a match that's going to be remembered for Sting, not what Darby did. Match aside, I thought the entrance was pretty much perfect.
thinking it doesn't make it true

Jim is like a proud dad who is disappointed on his son Darby Allen. 😂😂😂😂
Go figure. He's not even a dad.
It was Sting's retirement match, why would they do a spot to draw all of the attention away from Sting? The glass spot is all anyone will talk about or ever remember about this match and it had nothing to do with Sting.
Cuz let’s be real; Sting wasn’t about to do anything that’d make the match memorable.

Steamboat also had a good end to his in ring career. The two matches with Jericho back in 2009 we're so much better than they had any right to be and really showed how polished he is as a wrestler. There’s a time and place for crazy stunts. Unfortunately, AEW inundates people with this kind of stuff. The cherry on top here: Tony Khan's little attempt to circumvent responsibility for flying glass with a PSA on the board saying "You are responsible for damages if you sit on the floor seats"
The PSA never once mentions glass shards flying all over the place which makes it funnier.
You know, I remember CZW did a deathmatch with the same spot, but I was a guy do a finsher on the top of the cage they had the glass into the ring and that would not have happened if they did that as the crowd would have been further away.
