Converting a Circle From General Form to Standard Form

The teacher explained the method of converting the equation from general to standard form, but she completely skipped over the "completing the square" part and just put the answer down next. So I was confused like "where did those two extra numbers come from?" and due to online learning, it's hard to get word back on time. But so glad I watched this! It really made this entire thing easier, thank you!

Part of the problem. It is the equation of a circle. We are just writing it in a different form.

It would be called a coefficient. You would divide each term by the coefficient and then work it like I did in the video.

It doesn't matter. Because you are squaring the number you half. So it will always be positive.
2/2 =1 and 1^2 = 1
-2/2 = -1 and (-1)^2 = 1
