10:28 I'm glad you paid attention to that, it's easy to be distracted by everything else, but in fact Dreamcatcher dances are harder than most girl groups. And one thing that I love about their dances is that they always tie together the meaning of the song to certain dance moves, so the dances actually have a meaning and look good at the same time.
FYI again : They also said during their times in a variety show called Weekly Idol that this song is about a love-turns-into-obsessive and toxic(?) relationship. The word of "BE" in a form of capital words came from Hanja word that means "sadness", and so it represent with their hands gesture that symbolizing the word. And one interesting fact about this mv, it was inspired from a horror movie called Us. Once again, greetings from InSomnia of Indonesia branch😎🤟
dreamcatcher \:D/ at surface level, you can just interpret it as obsessive love between two people. this is the generic one sentence answer they give in short form interviews. but this is dreamcatcher and as they have said, nothing in their mvs is by accident. one of you picked up the temptation part(not sure your names but for some reason I think of smart quiet guy, and loud... well lol). in that scene, she is getting an apple through a broken mirror, from her reflection. she also says wipe away all tears and regret in that bridge scene. I've mentioned in previous reactions a recurring theme is battling yourself so you can be your real self, aka selling yourself short. that's why mirrors and duplicates have appeared in previous mvs you seen, followed by scenes of them running from themselves or rather, their evil selves. you also see a lot of mirrors combined with imagery from pop-culture about self conflict. the mv was inspired by the movie us, about your evil doppleganger replacing you. there is also a lot of alice in wonderland references and one can interpret that story about a young girl trying to find herself in a twisted world where everyone has an identity crisis themselves. in this mv, you get a lot of scenes where 'you' are trying to kill 'yourself'. the choke scene at the opening choreo is suppose to be a mirrored scene. handing a red apple can also be read as trying to poison another. even in the lyrics it mentions turning your face to ocean blue with stars in your eyes so you can guess what that means. in short, your dark half is trying to tempt you and at the same time kill your good half. you are doing this 'BEcause' you love yourself and tempted to live a life free from regret and inhibitions. the BE is capitalized to represent another word, the korean pronunciation of the chinese character for 'sadness'. thus BEcause can be interpreted as the cause of sadness - your morals holding you back from enjoying all the vices in life.
Well, well, well. Hi there! Dreamcatcher are outdoing themselves here once again. Musically, the song is a fantastic journey. There actually are "cute" parts, but there also are parts where the guitars go full metal. The variations in BEcause remind me of their previous masterpiece, Deja Vu. The bridge with SuA's slow rap and Yoohyeon's backing vocals is possibly the most beautiful one they have ever done. About the meaning: According to Dami, BEcause is about love becoming obsession. And also, this is a stand-alone story. They go back to their horror roots, which I really enjoy. They noted that if you look at "BE" as a written Chinese character "悲“, that would mean "sadness". So the song title would mean "The Cause of Sadness". And that would make the lyric "because I like you" to maybe mean "the cause of sadness is I like you". The video picks up on that. JiU seems to be the puppet master here (or her doppelganger!). She is the one trapping the other members and turning them into puppets, but Gahyeon tries to escape (as you can see by her throwing off the cage right in the beginning). It seems JiU catches her again though, "because she likes her". And I didn't even touch on the references to the movie "Us" yet, there is so much going on. The lyrics are even creepier. SuA sings: "Your face turns blue, blue. Your expression is like ocean view.", hinting at strangulation due to the one being obsessed taking things way, way too far. Dreamcatcher are clearly not afraid to tackle the difficult subjects, and they do it masterfully here - again. For me, this is more than just pop, it is art.
We are out of the Nightmare series indeed. It's an obsessive kind of love. Lots of double faced moments, pretending to be good, yet being controlling and letting show a bit of what's under the surface. There are a lot of double sided moments. 2:17 Gahyeon says "Smile for me" with a smile and then repeats it more firmly while her smile disappears. It's like a glimpse of controlling behavior, coverted yet starting to show through. 2:46 The mirror image, upside down, blue and red outfits. Showing two sides of a person. 2:53 We see two Siyeon. One sitting normally, and the camera pan down to what's going on below the surface, how Siyeon really feels, she's crazy, obsessed, acting very erratic and creepy. 2:59 This can be interpreted as Handong losing herself to this obsession, "k*lling and burying her good side" and letting the bad, the obsessive side coldly taking over. It can also be interpreted as kidnapping the victim as well. 4:06 Here you can hear the music picking up, getting faster, a bit like a heartbeat. It can be interpreted as the stalker getting excited being in the presence of the victim, being close to them, or it can representing the victim's heartbeat picking up because of fear, while they discover more and more of the true nature of their lover/stalker. 5:21 We all know the apple is meaning for sins, but it also represents pleasure, love and jealousy. One can say that SuA accepting the "gift", the apple from her bad side in the broken mirror, and biting into it is her surrendering her (pretended) good side to the bad side. A poisonous apple. Anyways, there are many double meanings in all the MV, it's cool to watch and discover/understand more things, have your own interpretation.
Some fun facts... BEcause is meant to be summer song which in the Kpop industry, it is meant to be fun, cheery and bubbly .... unless the group is Dreamcatcher and it is their take on a "summer" song which is based on a Korean tradition where you tell ghost stories or visit haunted places so that you can feel the "chills" to fight the summer heat. Officially the song unravels a story of an obsession and longing for love which you kind of caught on. The capitalise BE in the title is used in context as the Hanja character 悲’ (‘BE’) as they sound alike and the word meaning sadness, and the title BEcause could be loosely translate as the cause of sadness, and paired with the line BEcause I like you or BEcause I love you, the sadness is caused by liking or loving someone. Also, the whole creepy toxic vibe is link to the choreography where there is a scene of someone choking another, and the lyrics about "forever mine, even your breath" and then "your face blue...like an ocean view" kind of reflect someone being strangled until the fact turns blue etc. Also, the MV plot theme has another layer that officially borrowed quite a bit of plot elements from the horror movie "Us" by Jordan Peele where doppelgangers who were forced to live underground depraved of the "finer" things and are trying to are trying to take over their "privileged" above ground counterparts...won't go into much details as it would be better if you watch the movie yourself if you haven't). There are a lot of details in the MV that point to this such as the movie "Us" which has scenes depicting a hall of mirror, someone being captured and replaced, the carnival; similarly the choreography also uses the movie themes such as the doppelgangers holding hand in a chain, the slight side to side head tilts, ending pose of the center member which two hand on her face, mirrored choreography etc.. There are also a few easter eggs for the doppelgangers concept such as the MV is 3:13 minute long (coincidence? I think not) , and that the opening scene and ending scene has the members in completely different outfits (with the ending outfit more whimsical), as well as the completely drain symmetrical hourglass at the end indicating that at some point, the doppelgangers replaced their original counterpart. More impressively, musicality, it plays into the theme of opposite doppelgangers where there is a two part chorus (whimsical and cute, and a more rock follow up) and two part bridge (soft vocals followed up by a deep spoken rap with atmospherically vocals behind) trying to show this mirror duality. Also, I love the Pyscho volin homage during the rap part of the song.

Apologies for the audio everyone. We are working to get it fixed. Thanks for your patience.
