    Îmi place foarte mult melodia. Prima parte sună ciudat, parcă un începător ar încerca o melodie fără să respecte ritmul vreun pic, concentrându-se doar pe note.

    Yes the instrument "koboz" (adopted "cobza" in Romanian language) remain in Moldva among Hungarian csángó people and also among Romanians of that region. On the film he playes the koboz made by Csibi Szabolcs, who is from a székely city Sepsiszentgyörgy (Sf.Gheorge). He deals with Csángó koboz playing for about 25 years, and also build koboz instruments, including that one on the film. There is a kind of workshop in Sepsiszentgyörgy trying to reconstruct and play the folk music traditions of Moldva. This group of Hungarian friends plays a lot together and also try to teach it back in Csángó (Hungarian) villages in Moldva in summer folk camps.

      @Apa Neagră 1. The earliest mentions of koboz in Hungarian historical sources is from 1237: Choboz, 1326: Kobzus (Johannes dictus Kobzus de Zobodi). We also have a source from the 17th century (Codex of Rimay-Madách) which shows the instrument koboz had been very popular in Hungary at those times. It is an about 400 years old Hungarian poem tells you how the koboz sounds like. That is important, because in the historical sources it is not all the time sure that the NAME and the INSTRUMENT are the same. But here in this poem you may suspect, that is something very similar instrument as what we use nowdays:
      Pöngését koboznak gyakran ha te hallod,
      Minden vígságodat elmúlatni látod,
      Gyönyörűségedet bánatra fordítod,
      Száraz szemedet könyvezésre hozod.
      Nem korcsmához való koboznak pöngése,
      Sem tánchoz nem való gyönyörű zengése,
      Mert hozatik tőle elme gyötrődése,
      Bujdosó elmének gondban törődése.
      Hárfa, lant zengése gyönyörűséget hoz,
      Hegedűnek hangja lakodalom házhoz,
      Sípszónak az szava jó az serkocsmához;
      De koboz pengése elmetörődést hoz.
      Regal és orgona, díszes templomokban
      Mikoron dícsérik Istent énekszókban,
      Puzan és stortista az éneklő karban;
      Koboz igen illik katonák karjában.
      (your Hungarian speaking friends will translate the poem, but you are able to find the word "koboz" in every part - 400 years ago)
      There are other sources of course, but there is no place for them here. The origin of the word "koboz" is also interesting, leads to Middle Asia. The Romanian language might have adopted the word from other eastern nations (Cumans, Pechenegs), but more reasonable from the Hungarian, because of the long
      extended Hungarian-Romanian cultural neighborhood.
      What you mention about the "last 30 years - that's rather 50" it is only the Hungarian urban dance-house movement (táncházmozgalom). But it doesn't mean that the "koboz" in Hungary dated from those times :))
      2. This is not clear what you ask here. Maybe you asked about traditional koboz players I know from Moldva. In archive recordings Gyöngyös György, Gyöngyös János from Lujzikalagor (Luizi-Călugăra), and others I knew personally: Antim Ioan, Paun Vasile of course.
      3. Yes, you are right, sorry, but Csibi Szabolcs, who built the instrument (friend of mine) also could have played that.
      4. Here you are totally right, and I am interested what has been written about the koboz/cobza in Romanian. I hope it will be translated in Hungarian, and also the many publications about the subject written in Hungarian will also be translated to Romanian.
      My first instrument is the violin, so if you ask, yes I met more times Paun Vasile, but I dealt more with the violin player Bogdan Toader and of course learned from him.
      .....about the "contradiction": have you heard about that villatic communities they are losing there own traditions? Even the language....
      5. I respect your opinion, your interest, your knowledge about this all. Please visit Pustiana next month to be able to talk more about it.

      Depinde de om ! Eu habar nu am sa cant la nici un instrument ! Dar senzația mea este ca e mai greu la cobză decât la pian. Am studiat si eu pic, istoria acestui instrument, si se pare ca adevaratii maeștrii sunt plecați fără urmași reali. Cobza are un sunet aparte , da o legatura ferma cu trecutul.

    wow this looks alot like the ancient instrument of central asia and persia called 'barbat' , and the name is similar to another turkic central asian instrument called kobuz. but it is played in european style and hungarian manner. so interesting!

    • @Psychenaturadatura

      Cobza is a traditional Romanian folk instrument. Of course, Barbat was the origin for many lutes and probably for cobza as well. The name is indeed of turkish resonance. I do not see anything ”hungarian” in playing (can you explain?) - there are just some basic folklore inspired tunes. Check „Poveștile cobzei” video (there is a cobza made in a village in Romania). Also, for solo tunes, you may want to listen to the old masters Grigore Kiazim, Ion Păturică, Ion Strâmbeanu, Marin Cotoanță - to name just a few.
      Cheers!

      This Romanian traditional instrument, "cobza", is so old that its origins are very hard to be tracked back in time with any certain accuracy. It can be as old as few thousands years, probably first appeared and used inside the Thracian - Getian world, which counted more than 200 tribes (according to Herodotus being the 2nd largest people in the world after the Indians) and spreaded over vaste territories from Central Europe, around the Black Sea and the Mediterranean Sea, to near Central Asia. Some tribes out of those 200 are direct line ancestors of the today Romanian people. Interesting enough to be mentioned is that the word "barbat", which is one of the central asian names for "cobza", in Romanian language means "male"(man). Let's don't forget that, due to some linguistical particularities specific to Turkish language pronounciation, the Turks are always "adapting" foreign words to their Turkish language pronounciation capabilities (e.g. "kobuz" vs. "cobza") !!!

      Hungarian manner? What is that?

    • @ruhatuma
      @ruhatuma 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@laure5333 Stop going so far back. It's not historically accurate and you could really misinform people. The cobza is a member of the lute family that comes from the persian barbat and the tambur. Due to the pear shape, the bowled back and the bent neck, it is related directly to the arabic oud from which it branched out. It is indeed the oldest instrument of the Balkan Peninsula but it can only be traced back to the 1600s. The Dacians and Thracians wouldn't have been capable of producing such an instrument due to lack of technology. The lautars (gypsy slave musicians) used them in formulas of three people (the initial tarafs). One played the violin, another one was playing the panpipe and the third member was the one with the cobza. The concept of lautar appeared in the 1700s in Romania, in the fanariot period, when the throne was bought with money from the sultan by rich greek aristocrats from the Fanar area in Istanbul. They held lautars in courts, because they were considered a luxury and were very expensive.
