I shoot mainly product commercials and want to get better at telling stories while using those products. That way the customer can see how the product can help them in various ways. Take for instance a headlamp. I want to tell a story around it while also telling someone’s story. The headlamp is kind of in the background, meaning we know it’s there but just like a pair of shoes, we forget they are there but they serve an important purpose.

i literally just had to do this with my film about my dad im working on. was starting to get lost/felt like something is missing. Helped me realized i really need to go to california to record two additional interviews with two of my dads best friends to tell a little more well rounded story about his life. Thanks for this one mark! I love this use case of milanote too. Really practical

Guilty as charged - been sitting on a HUGE pile of footage for a documentary project I and my team shot this past Spring and not only was just logging and prepping all of the footage daunting but trying to figure out what the spine of the film should be, what it _could_ be was really difficult. I tried going into the film open to letting our subject take us where he was going to take us but I think I had overhyped what I hoped his story _would_ be and when his life and what he was trying to accomplish didn't have high stakes and tension, I think I cooled to the project overall.
I still think it might end up being more of a portrait than a story with dramatic tension and resolution...but then again maybe I'll end up surprised by what's _really_ there in the footage now that I can take a look at it with fresh eyes.
Snagged Milanote with your link - what a terrific app! Already organizing the edit with screen grabs from the footage and feeling incredibly motivated to hunker down and figure this thing out. Awesome video!

First and foremost, this channel is so wicked. It's genuinely surprising that you don't have over a million subscribers yet, Mark. I don't make documentaries personally, but this channel is an invaluable resource for storytelling and filmmaking with depth and meaning behind it, so I'm finding myself watching to learn more and more about your processes and applying them to my specific style of content creation.
I currently use Notion to script and outline videos, but Milanote looks wicked. Would you say it's worth it for storyboarding a 10 minute TH-cam video with lots of b-roll and visuals, or is that's overkill? Thanks for all you're sharing my fellow Ontarian, really appreciate it.
