Just dove headfirst into pipes! Pipe tobaccos are SO different from Cigars and I’m loving the adventure. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction!

I would recommend getting a Cob with the pre-seasoned bowl. Some cobs can have an aftertaste untill they are broken in. A basket briar from a local brick and mortar store can be good, i have a couple that were $40 each and they have been real troopers. Some i have bought have broken after a few uses though. You can get a nice savinelli for around $80 or so when a sale is going on.
Also i would recommend trying some of the sampler pack sales for tobacco, many times you can get a couple of quality tobacco blends in a set. Pipes and Cigars has a couple of good deals like the one with Orlic golden sliced and Peterson Flake for $20, although virginias can be easy to overheat for a beginner.
My main tip would be to learn your own rhythm for smoking and try to smoke slowly. Remember its about tasting and relaxing not about nicotine(you do not inhale) as opposed to cigarettes. Also when you get tongue bite, and you will, take a break for a day or two and then start again. Tongue bite can come from smoking too fast or from tobacco that is too wet(creating steam rather than smoke). It can also come from chemicals if you are smoking aromatics or heavily cased tobacco. Store your tobacco in ball mason jars(wash and dry them thoroughly) and keep them out of the sun and heat.
Next tip, build a cellar over time. The tobacco will not go bad if stored properly and aging makes a big difference on non aromatic blends.
Also learn the taste of different tobaccos. Virginia, Burley, Kentucky, Latakia, Oriental, Perique, Cavindish for the main players. Obviously there are different types of each.
Finally look at reviews online and try blends from small stores like The Country Squire or Boswells, Watch City Cigar, McCranies, etc. Save up when ordering from major players like Smokingpipes because they offer free shipping at $100. Frequently Pipesandcigars will also offer 20% off an order of $99 or more as well as free shipping.
    Enjoy!

Long form content is good. If it takes 30-45 mins to smoke a pipe that would make sense for a video length.

My tip would be, buy 1oz samples so you don't waste money on blends you don't like.

Nice! There's something about the pipe that reminds me of the 'old ways'. It's an enjoyable practice, and I hope this video was helpful!

There is also an argument on the bowl shape and what blends go best with a particular shaped bowl, wide bowls are better for english/balkan blends and aros, it allows more space for flavors to develop, a more slender deep bowl is better for virginias/vapers, its concentrates the flavors, but altimately its just preference .

Yeah, I agree. Though those things may affect the flavors and smoke of the tobacco, I'm not sure if it's shown to have anything of significance. I think the best path, especially if purchasing your first pipe, is to buy something that makes you think "I want to smoke that one"
