It really, well and truly baffles me that people would be so brazen as to walk up and ask about how your sex life works 🤦🏻‍♀️ you wouldn't ask any of your other friends that, so why would someone having a disability mean that you suddenly have the right to? Astounding.

I know it’s crazy they perceptions that some people have if disabled people... and that’s what I’m hoping we can change!
I want to get to a point where people see disabilities as different, never less!

Number 4. Is the one that pisses me out. I had to get a drivers permit in order to go through a program that will help me get modifications done to my car to make getting my wheelchair and walker down more easier. While I was get the permit I was surrounded by 5 employees telling that they were not going to give me a permit because “ how do we know you can drive” or “ the program usually tells us when they’re sending people our way.” The thing is in order to get accepted into the program you have to already have a driver permit!!!!!!! I spent 2 hours trying to make one of the employees understand that but she would just get rudder everything time I would her that. She even had me blocked in so i couldn’t leave, to get my mom. They kept telling they would going to issue it out to me till they got a bite from the program.... but once my mom showed up to see what was going on, and why it was taking so long, they handed me the permit and every single employee left the area. The lady put on a smile and was like “oh we just had a little misunderstanding” and got out of our way so we could leave. I was like tears cause I was so angry and just hurt from how I was seen as an easy target. I don’t even want to go back to get my actual license because I don’t want to go through that again.

So sorry that you had to go through that, just reading that really makes me think how terrible the way some people can be towards disabled people just because they of what they think they know about disability. again, this is terrible, but thank you so much for sharing. and watching

Glad to see you are open and passionate about this! But sad to see that the same shit is going on decades after I fought the same issues in my younger years! Keep shouting it from the rooftops, society will get their act together eventually!

One of the reasons I subscribe to your channel Oliver, as a person with a disability from birth, is that the positive way you live with your own disability. It is so refreshingly different in a good way.
Within disability there are so many social and cultural perspectives and expectations (hence your own disclaimer, which I loved 🤣 ), pretty much everybody's experiences are different. Non are right or wrong. 😀👍
P.S. Please do carry on doing the occasional "your day" videos. They are beyond aspirational, not inspirational! They are more encouraging than you know or realise, Oliver. As I've said before, never be ashamed of what you have achieved. If others have problem with it, I feel very sorry for them. That's their downfall.👍

Thanks dean! I’m happy you’re enjoying my channel! And I’m glad it’s offering a different and positive perspective!
I will get on doing some more vlogs soon I hope! Maybe il try and film some stuff tomorrow! I appreciate that and means a lot that you guys find them aspirational and interesting !!

My long term disability is scoliosis, arthritis and the nerve implications involved. I have learned to swim differently and adapt to others well. There is still the perception by some, however, that I should only come in when it's not crowded. What? I have a job to get to. When I wore the Milwaukee Brace as a kid, I was often called "inspiratiinal" for just finishing a footrace. That was in the Eighties and I remember being really pissed off about people's assumptions around physicality. Funny, it seems that the same people who call me inspiracional also tell me to use the pool when it's not crowded. Hmm...

Yeah It can be really tough I feel like people have differing opinions about other peoples disabilities and what they should be or do. I actually just uploaded a video about this very topic. its annoying that on one hand youre a motivation and inspo. and the other you have to use the pool when its free... its like, make your mind up
      thanks for sharing!

You know, it ticks me off when somebody talks to the person next to somebody with a disability *about* that disabled person like it's some sick pet. Can he get up the stairs? Can he do the dishes? But "can he get hard?" is a new one... o.O ... I struggle to imagine the rage that must be in your head at times. Me myself I'm not getting that treatment because my disability is not visible. So I have to open all the doors myself anyway. :-P

Yes he can get up stairs, yes he has a voice! Haha that is a perk! Getting doors held open for me and skipping queues haha

I'd say another thing is if you're having a good day that means you're not disabled that day any therefore don't need things like disabled parking that day. My cousin has MS on a bad day she's completely wheelchair bound on a good day she can walk a very short distance. The number of times she been harassed for using disabled parking o her good days and she explains her condition and that is a good day she's meet with if you're having a good day you shouldn't be using the space as she doesn't need it that day. She absolutely does. People's good days are compared to their average day not what a non disabled person would consider a good day.

People assume I can't open doors and then make it more awkward by offering to help and standing in the way. lol Yes I got told I couldn't go in a club as my wheelchair wasn't allowed. lol
When I sign up to new gym they only show me upper body machines, don't even ask if I can use my legs at all. 🙄

I’ve been out with my friends in wheelchairs to clubs and bars! It should be a problem for the door staff if it’s not a problem for the wheelchair user!
Keep on doing what you’re doing and showing people their misconceptions are wrong!
