It is mind boggling...how our ancient ancestors built a city...totally by hand...they were intelligent enough to do so..I visited Pompeii many years ago, this was so fascinating, thank you 😊
Imagine the first rumbles of the volcano, the workers and artists pausing and then resuming work. I can hear the foreman belting out orders. Thank you for bringing these people to life, amazing indeed!
Imagine if archeologists get interrupted in their digging by another eruption…. When I visited Pompeii, I wondered about how this ancient city could get destroyed again by another eruption, losing it again…
I've been there in November 2022 and I don't know how to explain that amazing feeling... It felt like HOME... So peaceful, and still so alive... every stone on those streets, every brush on those walls, every blink to that mountain is telling a story. It's worth the effort not just once in a lifetime. Hopefully, I will be back one day.

Thank you, Darius! I have never visited Pompeii, but you took me there. Very special to see a dig in process and seeing something the public doesn't have access to. Thank you.
It is worth the trip to get there. Have good walking shoes.!! I finally made in 2011. Really its a 2 day site. A lot bigger in person than it looks on TV or photos.
This guided tour is truly an amazing experience, a wel presented of the ongoing discoveries at Pompeii : something new almost everyday - and an a fabulous and fascinating work for the conservators and restorators. Many thanks for this great "behind the scene " visit.
Retired Travel Agent here, the off season really can not be beat! I never made it to Italy (among a million other places), and this video is absolutely beautiful. Thank you!
Thanks for doing this video! I did my Master's thesis on Pompeii back in 2009. I am so happy they have new excavations happening and can't wait to get a look inside. I visited last September and saw Leda and the swan and a Priapus painting. I'd love to see the rooms you visited in this video - those snakes and wall paintings are AMAZING! R
The fresco in ínsula 10 house with the red at the bottom and the crane is incredible! It’s almost unbelievable how vivid the colors are in the frescos in this house! Has the house been given a name yet? It has been my lifelong dream to visit Pompeii and Herculaneum (literally since I was 5 and learned about it on the History Channel 23 years ago!) A Pompeii and Herculaneum exhibit was actually mine and my husband’s first date. He proposed to me with a vintage music box that had a metal carving of Italy with Vesuvius in the background. To keep the theme going I got his wedding ring custom made to contain lava stones from Vesuvius that the girl went on a trip to get for me (and sent pictures!) just so I could surprise him with a little piece of Pompeii. I hope we can visit it someday and bring our love story with Pompeii full circle! Thank you so much for sharing your videos and knowledge with us.
And look at that mindblowing wall painting ND drawings. Guys, it is insane and super. oder. And Cubism that arose in 20th century, already was there, in Pompeii and surrounding Neapolitan region.
What amazing excavation and restoration work being performed in Pompeii. And I'm in awe of the access Darius has to bring this content to all of us. I'm fortunate to be attending his course in Rome this May and am excited at the prospect of seeing the ancient world through his eyes in person. Thank you for this look into the ever-expanding world of ancient Pompeii.
7:00 from what I remember reading there's thought that leading up to the eruption there were quakes which damage a significant amount of houses in Pompeii. That makes sense now seeing all the work that was being done on houses prior to the eruption of 79AD.
Amazing and stunning video which is exactly half as good as it should be, due to the nausea-inducing 30fps frame rate. I will upvote every video of yours as soon as you make the switch to 60fps and ONLY 60fps for all future videos. My heaving stomach thanks you very kindly, and so do the viewers in the future - in advance!
Wow!!! You’ve done it again! It’s great that you have such superb access to sites and information. This is truly a treat. Thanks for all the hard work! GK
Darius, i’ve been watching you for years, every time I would love what you have to say, and show. I’ve been in Pompeii a few years ago, but I know that every day there is something new discover it.. Thank you very much and waiting for a new updates.❤
Thank you so much Darius for your wonderful exploration today. Currently I am in the middle of restoring images of the Roman Military mystery cult of Jupiter Doclchenus. I just finished restoring three votive plaques of Jupiter Dolichenus in photoshop. Again Darius, thank you for your amazing videos.
Went to the Pompeii exhibit at the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago three times while it was there this past fall/winter, add in this and I really do feel so close to a city I've never actually been anywhere close to. Love to see it, and as always, appreciate the work you're doing!
I always believe that everything or every event in this life has a purpose. With that enormous disaster and thousands of people killed under the rubble, imagine if the Mount Vesuvius eruption in Pompeii hadn't occurred; we wouldn't have this amount of preserved material and insight into the lifestyle of that era. That's truly documenting a period of human history. It's a time capsule, a box of time machine, taking each coming generation to the summer of A.D. 79. Thank you for the videos Darius
I've been fascinated by Pompeii since I was a kid, and I finally went there in 2019 and I was blown away by the size of the place, and the detail. I must have wandered around aimlessly exploring for about 8 hours, and I think I'm pretty sure I was one of the last people to leave that day! I would have went back the next day too but I was on a tight schedule and had to make my way to Rome, which was fine, but a bit boring compared to Pompeii! But it's crazy seeing the parts like this that are just now being excavated, it must be so exciting uncovering something that's been covered for 2,000 years, you'd never know what you might find! I think I might go back this year again..

This is sooo cool. I have been a part of many Native American archeological excavations but I don’t think they could ever come close to how cool this is. More, please , more. Thank you
Thanks, Darius! So impressed of this new finds. Especially I liked the two snakes in stucco on the wall in Pompeian red. I have not seen these really big element on a wall before, and all included in what seems to be a quite big home lararium.
This answers my questions about the appearance of the houses of Pompeii at the time of excavation: before modern materials have been added, and before the weather has faded the paintwork. Darius, it would be great to see a garden excavation at Pompeii, with the statues, ornaments and altar etc. Thank you for this video!
I was there in july last year but regio 9 was closed because of the excavations. I definitely will come back to see all the amazing places that have been revealed since... Also great compliments to Darius for all your great video's !!!
This is amazing! Thank you for sharing this with us Darius. I wish I could volunteer in Pompeii just to carry buckets of dirt, and it would be still a dream come true.
Its so interesting to see the fresco's. You can imagine 2000 years ago probably an interior decorating business would have been employed to decorate the villa. The casual style suggests it would be the ancient equivalent of wall paper that is more utalitarian than high art, reflecting the fashions of the time and personal taste and interests of the owner. Pompeii is a real window into Roman civic society and unique..
Unbelievably exciting. I loved Pompeii. The Romans did beautiful murals. I always listen very carefully for those tidbits in your videos which demonstrate your broad and deep knowledge about Rome. You know also I wish you would highlight those ongoing efforts to find those remaining papyri in Herculaneum before those volcanoes blow again! But never mind. Just fascinating. I agree about the scrolls! I wish they would put all emphasis on excavating that area to reveal more scrolls they speculate are still covered as rain etc creeps in deeper in the ash and can destroy remains.
Well and gosh the news says the volcanoes right next door pose an active danger to all of Naples. So in a general eruption if the site is buried again by Vesuvius or the neighboring caldrons, which seem to be boiling, it may never be re-excavated. @@mwj5368
So amazing to see! The most fascinating for me in this vid was the shot of the things on the table. Actual everyday items like bowls and things. Thanks for sharing this!
When I was in israel 40 years ago I saw an excavation site where they were just unearthing a mosaic temple floor with astrological signs on it, my group happened to be there the day after they uncovered it. Wicked cool.
I hope they keep a lot of the site as it was when it was found, it's nice to see it uncovered but it's also good to understand the results of the volcanic destruction.
Thank you man! Content of your channel is really unique - it has enough of explanation, but almost no "water". Sometimes you show the places that I always wanted to see, but never had a chance to get there in right time and there are almost zero good videos about the places. In our times, then lot of peoples tries to sell everything, even stuff that they have no idea about - the channel shows that there are still great people on TH-cam that provide really interesting and exclusive content.
I appreciate that! I’m happy to share my experiences- as u can see here it’s often in rushed circumstances- like a press conference - so it’s not easy - especially when on my own, but I try!
What always strikes me about excavating Pompeii is that when Vesuvius blows again (as active volcanoes have an annoying habit of doing) the whole place will be buried all over again.....
It's truly fascinating how everything seems so almost recent yet is 2000 years old but still is relatable to today- right down to a pile of building materials and clutter but no sign of the builders.
Thanks for this amazing presentation. We have been in magnificent Pompeii last June. I'm so sorry I couldn't see all these new discoveries with my own eyes. And yes, why isn't it pizza? Yes, it's focaccio, it's a proto-pizza, but that's what pizza is. All. The quality of the pizza can be seen there. There is no deep philosophy in it anymore. That's what pizza is all about.
I visited Pompeii last November. I agree. Pompeii in winter had fewer people and a lovely, calm atmosphere. The only problem was ... the site closes 2 hours earlier in winter!
