- Part 27 of a video walkthrough for Nancy Drew: Shadow at the Water's Edge. In this part, Nancy finds the final clue that identifies who the culprit is. Nancy then confronts the culprit and prevents the culprit from escaping. Both endings to the game get played, as well as a preview for the next game, the ending credits, and some bloopers.

The ending of this game always made me cry in a happy way. That poor family deserved happiness

I got a grudge against Rentaro as soon as he gave me the first numbers puzzle. I'm terrible with numbers, so I was thinking "you just made yourself a number #1 suspect just for making me do this", haha. Little did I know he would end up being the bad guy for real.
THANK YOU for not pulling the machanical ghost's hair back. I seriously had a nightmare with the face in it.
First time I played this game and Nancy dropped everything I tried picking up the screwdriver thinking "Oh I'll throw this at the culprit and knock them out!"... I was very dissapointed

I was so scared of the "ghost" when it jumped out at Nancy and tried to drown her when I played the game that I screamed --
-- but when I realized it was fake, I played peek-a-boo with it by flipping the hair back-and-forth. XD
I know what Rentaro did was unforgivable and all, but I still kind of hope Miwako gives him another chance someday. :(
Somehow I knew it was always Rentaro, because the nice guys are always the culprits. Also, they make the culprits look really evil when they get caught. And I chose the ending where Rentaro begs Miwako for forgiveness. XD

I NEVER THOUGHT ID FINISH THIS GAME!! im so happy i did though great game WOULD not have been able to do it without your help Micheal thanx alot :) i kept thinking it was yumi though, u know cuz of the DVD and the buttons in her room next to the CD said DIE plus i loved Rentaro's character and its a bit of a let down to fing out that he was the culprit lol
He was my favorite character too! I was hoping it wasn't him the whole time but I kept wondering.

I thought it was Rentaro, but I didn't want it to be him. I was nice to him in the end, I'm glad he got the chance to be a good guy :D

I should have known it'd be Rentaro. Always the one you least expect in Nancy Drew games and that usually means the nicest one too...

@MidnighttLexie I don't blame you! I was watching the video in bed with the lights off and hadn't read the comments. When I saw her, I hid in my blanket. lol She looks very similar to the dark-haired girl from the movie, The Ring. Pale, long black hair, white eyes, and usually when you see her, her mouth is open. It's terrifying! You cannot realize she is a robot until you go back to examine her when you see the body crumpled on the floor and the arm has a tear in the flesh, revealing wiring.
You did a brilliant job. I had a lot of fun playing this. I was hoping it was Savannah and not Rentaro after his deer impression. He seemed so nice, but the drowning thing was terrible. He should get some counseling.
Awwww! Why does my fav character always have to be the culprit! And why do all the nancy Drew Games get scary and scarier every time! First this one, now the next one!! I haven't played Shadow at the Waters Edge, and I don't think I'm playing the next game either! I get scared easily and Hate all of these scary games!!! Lol...love your videos Michael!!! :)

Lol, me and my sister Lulu were playing this, and Lulu only took one single picture of the hallway. So during the credits, we just stared at the hallway for the whole credits xD.
Me: "WOW, look at that impressive hallway! I wanna watch that until it's over! :D"

Actually, I think the door was open before you used the door-o-matic...because I didn't use it to open it.
Anyway, I'm feeling a little sorry for Rentaro...but then I remember that his 'ghost' almost killed Nancy...and I love the various expressions on his face! I like that there are 2 endings, but the first is my favorite!
You can also accuse the grandmother before you confront Rentaro. She'll admit she knew about the will.
I was so bummed out by the end for several reasons- 1) It was Rentaro. He was my fav and he's so cute. 2) Why he did it really didn't make much sense. It was just... blahh 3) There was no threat at the end. I mean, he's like "I'm going to make you go away forever!!" and Nancy is all, "Not unless I tell everyone what you did first." Then Rentaro's all "Oh, forgive me Nancy! I've learned the error of my ways!!" 0_o Still a great game, though :)
I had a bit of a suspicion towards Yumi- she always was so against the ryokan and sending all those pictures with the secret message that led to the numbers needed for the nonogram puzzle didn't help either. I didn't think she was neccesarily the main culprit, but I thought she helped with the mystery. Yumi seemed like she was smarter than she looked.

That pink letter said "Must finish room order today", but before you translated it, I translated it as "It ends today" which made it sound a little creepy.
Poor Rentaro. He is a nice guy, even though he almost drowned Nancy.
I hope I would have picked the nice response but who knows...these games look too complicated for me. For some reason I don't feel up to trying Nancy Drew games, maybe because you can actually die if you mess up.

The next game reminds me of Curse Of Blackmoor Manor, or Haunting of Castle Malloy, which are two of my faves. Can't wait.
And I love who was the culprit. I just wish it was little bit more exciting.

I thought it was Rentaro from pretty early on in the game (Miwako/Takae didn't have very strong motivation, and it would be too hard for Yumi since she didn't know about machinery and wasn't at the ryokan all the time like Rentaro was) but Im still sad it was him :( He was so awesome and funny!!
And, im positive that the scary german castle Savannah talked about on the phone is the setting for the next game :D
O didn't get all those outtakes, only the suki one, the back of the portrait one, and the shadow one. Does that have something to do with me not getting all of the rewards? :3 And I played this a million times, and barely got an outtake today before watching this vid XD
The Captive Curse sounds like a mixture of Curse of Blackmoore Manor, The Haunting of Castle Malloy, and the Creature of Kapu Cave.
does anyone know what happens if you chose something else from the tossed pile of stuff instead of the culprit's recorder?

I knew Rentaro did it right from the beginning. Never trust the nicest ones. But I still don't understand the motive. Why did he want to close down the ryokan anyway?

Here's what I thought the ending was gonna be: Nancy was gonna walk in on Rentaro, and he'd be all lke, "Nancy! You've gotta help me! Takae is making me do this!" *footsteps* "Oh no, she's coming! Hide!" *Nancy hides in closet and then precedes to capture Takae*
I didn't suspect Rentaro at all, and it's impossible to stop liking him :)

@JimSBand Same here. It's always the nice ones who are the culprit! XP Look at Secret of Shadow Ranch or Ghost Dogs of Moon Lake. I never expected either characters to be the culrpits. Ah well. =P

I chose the option to tell on Rentaro. I mean come on, his robot grudge ghost almost drowned Nancy. He didnt deserve any type of kindness after that.

@hdk8 You can't see Nancy's face because it'll ruin the illusion that the player is Nancy. You are supposed to be Nancy, so if she's given a different identity, it'll seperate you from the game! :) Just fyi.

@myvibratincranium I am going to Hawaii next month so I am playing The Creature of Kapu Cave very soon in honor of it =) but I think the next one I will play is "Trail of the Twister" as the most recent one I played is Warnings at Waverly Academy. I liked that one but it definitely was not one of my favorites, I found that one to be less fun for some reason, it was short I found.

In the video befor this is didn't watch the robot almost drown Nancy and I didn't look at it when we had to find the clue. What does it look like and can you tell by seeing it that it is a robot and did it scare anyone??

i love nancy drew games that scare me! this one scared me! but not as much as blackmoor manor. yikes! i always played that game at night.

I was kind of hoping there would be a more dramatic story behind kasumi's death.. like a actual murder? rather then just a accident. everyone kept saying the secret was so horrible and life-changing, it scared savannah for life yet.. it was sad but..? not horrifying or anything.
also they never said who kasumi's pen pal was. was mary anne actually kasumi's sister that had to say she was "maryanne" so takae would let the letters go through?
