I dont want to talk like Yii is dying lol, but it bums me out that he's no longer gonna make AK videos. His personality was just easily watchable, but it was definitely apparent that he was getting bored and burned out. I hope he considers dabbling in it like every 2-3 months, but i'd watch him regardless. Curious to see what he's excited to make. :)

@@DisIngRaM I think it's about wasted potential too, he has the voice, the humor, and idea to make anything watchable, sticking to Arknights the game that will inevitably be less and less popular in the future is probably not a good thing.

His first long form video actually surprised me, he seemlessly moved his humor and analysis to a VERY different game. Like, he absolutely has the potential to be the next SkillUp or YongYea.

I am genuinely so sad the amiyafumo cinematic universe will never get the conclusion it deserved.
But he seemed SO much more passionate about the first game he reviewed... honestly it's a joy to see his content when he's not jokingly but clearly struggling with mental health aspects. Depressed Yii Arknights Videos are not worth the toll on his mental health.

But, why should a game even cater to content creators? These people aren’t even developing mods or something for the game. It’s just making money by sharing strategies. There was a time when people just shared and discussed these things for free without expecting any compensation. The idea that one should be able to make money off of it is just outright nonsensical when you think about it. It’s lame.

However, this model is not necessary and I would even say that it is unhealthy. If a company wants to promote their game, let them spend money on advertising and promotional events. Players or consumers shouldn’t also be in the business of providing advertising for games anyway. Just enjoy it and share interesting stuff with the community for the sake of just sharing and not monetizing. Play what you enjoy for the enjoyment. Not to make money etc.

I agree with everything you mentioned in this video. Talking with you over discord really helped me realized that I wasn't alone in my thinking as an Arknights creator. It's been rough being torn between supporting a game you love and trying to grow as a creator. The last 6-8 months I've been struggling with the idea of jumping ship and expanding the channel to other content. With Endfield being shown and looking better it feels more appealing to stay but at the same time you have no idea when it'll come and if it'll even do well a year later. Gacha is a hard market to brand as a creator and build something on. I've told my community many times that I wish I could just be an AK only creator but at this time it's not worth the amount of effort as the growth ceiling is so small. At this point random videos get more subscribers than most of my Arknights content. I'm thankful to have the type of support I've gotten from Arknights but my channel hasn't grown in months.
I'd like to also talk about the lack of support as a creator from Yostar and Arknights events. There have been times when events would happen, and only certain people could restream or get support. It was frustrating as a full-time AK creator to get ignored when trying to do community live streams around the concerts for example and have to sit on the sidelines watching other creators have fun with their communities because they were given permission, and you weren't. Not a jab at the other creators as those events SHOULD be live streamable to the community but it was the pick and choose mentality from Yostar that was annoying. It never really feels like Yostar is working with us, rather they just let us "hang around". Hoyoverse is like a 180 from this. I don't even make Hoyoverse related content but have always been reached out to about upcoming events and betas around their games. I've never been sponsored but the mere fact that they reached out to see if I was interested in their games was way more than I've gotten from Yostar in the whole 1.5 years I covered Arknights.
I know Yii will do great things in the future and I'm glad they we're able to find the courage to go down a path that isn't as comfortable for them. I feel this was something Yii HAD to do in order to grow. The level of time and effort put into their videos was almost wasted in this space and could easily grow them much faster in a broader niche.

But Im glad Yii expanded his horizons because gacha can only provide so much for content creators. Also a lot of creators would feel trapped in continue making content for the same gacha for years on despite burn out because they want to maintain their fanbase or keep them happy which adds onto further pressures. I honestly believe another factor in that plays in Arknights popularity is that it isn't a "main game" kind of game. Its a side game, that game that you play a 30mins to an hour+ then move on to your main game, you enjoy it when theres events, you enjoy the gacha since the game is quite generous enough, you enjoy the characters, the AMAZING fucking music, and you enjoy your waifu/husbando. No content creator out there that would dedicate their entire time to focus on a side game simple as, for our community and our amazing dedicated content creators, its the absolute love for the game hence they dedicate their time for us, amazing Arknights content creators like Kyo, Frostbyte, kukki, cesith, eckogen, yii, Oyuki etc. (but a lot of them branch out since the content you can make for Arknights is really limited like I stated earlier since its a side game.) Unlike other games where you can milk the fuck out of it or bait the hell of the game for content I honestly believe Arknights is really limited.

It's so tiresome it turns off new would be players, and even burns out old time players. Arknights has a good story, they just need to make it more accessible to casuals then the game would grow more.

The fuck are you saying? If a Genshin streamer testing 10+ abyss teams then a Arknights streamer testing 10+ operator comps and run a stage like 20 times just to get that High rank score on contigency is also boring af.
Back to Arknights -Lightnovel type story telling, repeating audio Effects for story telling "Slash vfx "sword steel clanking vfx" for every fight scene in Arknights lol.
And also. Arknights got a lot of complainers to, most of arknights story is to fcking convuluted, long, so Vague and tiring to read.
I read till chapter 8 it was awesome. Any past that just really got Lame. Especially the event ones. Having need to Read that shit on the event for 3 hours while it being timelimited. Yeah no way you'll force me to read a voiceless event that I need to read for 3 hours.
I rather play genshin events with voicelines and enjoy that.
Skip button is an only complain about non readers. Thats it. But its not a reason for "story to much". If we argue Arknights is like the bible to read for every event story.
And genshin is a normal Manga with one new chapter. Easy to intake and enjoy.

Nowadays I feel like guides are mostly useless, AK genuinely doesn't need more than 2-3 content creators, focusing on guides. And majority of viewers would just check Kyostin video anyways.
There is definitely not enough meme creators or in general people who can produce content outside the game. Like idk, do a speedpaint vid of you drawing an AK character? Or AI voice over for meme situations between characters. I guess it is too much effort and if your first vid flops you'll be discouraged from trying this type of content again.
Also I do think there should be more lore focused content creators (I rarely read an event nowadays cause I am too busy irl for Arknights writing lol). Maybe there are some but I just know one.

I do think there's some great content creators in the AK scene right now, but those content creators are mainly fueled by passion for the game and passion can only take you so far before it begins to fail you. This was a really interesting video as a lot of the things you talked about are questions I have been asking for a while and its good to hear other AK content creators opinions on the game and its growth. Content creation for any gacha game can be quite limited but I think with AK due to the chapter sizes and no VA, that takes away a huge portion of the content that could be made which is people watching cc react/play the story as they may not want to read over an 70k written story twice. I think this is one of the issues with AK as all the other games mentioned do have that voice acting aspect that does make them more accessible and the writing is a lot shorter so its easier to stream/make videos on. I think its an issue that can be fixed with endfield but that raises another question as to whether or not endfield will just BECOME the only AK game and arknights could suffer a decrease in their player base but also if more AK creators will just leave to play AK endfield. I think another benefit endfield will have is that they can focus a portion of marketing around specific characters and build hype up in livestreams and get big names for the VA work (commonly see in genshin/hsr)
It would be nice if hypergryph could do more to work with content creators, i think not just sponsoring big streamers to play the game but working with arknights content creators established in the community would be a great thing too. I dont really know what else could be done to expand this game further and make the content more successful but I think the community aspect of it is the key as in my experience, cc making content linked with the community or with future content does tend to be more successful. Or we call just quit for HSR 😂 ill have to check out your reverse 1999 videos tho - loving that game so far!

The story of arknights is amazing, especially the lone trail story we have right now. But I don’t see enough people talk about it on TH-cam, that is just unfortunate. I really wish there are people who does content creations around the lore of arknights, like VaatiVidya who does contents around the dark souls, elden ring, and bloodborne series. Think about it, for the souls games, the community always says “Vaati help!” When they want to know the lore of the game, for arknights, there is kyostinV when people need help for clearing certain stages, but there isn’t someone like that for the lore of arknights. Having more content creators covering the story/lore of the game is definitely going to attract more people to the game too. But unfortunately I feel like this part of our community is just lacking.

    1) yostar needs to invest in growing the community/playerbase
I started playing AK because I had seen some art of characters in the past, and then a few months ago I started getting YT ads for the game and I think I recognized a character or something. The marketing animations for AK are so fucking gorgeous and not just entirely focused on aggressive fanservice so they caught my interest and I had to check it out. If Yostar would put more effort into getting Arknights' name out there then I think they could really boost interest in the game because the marketing that they DO make is S tier stuff. I had no interest at all in gacha games before AK, but the ads were just that good that they hooked me
    2) yostar needs to invest in strengthening the community that already exists
Creator led community events like Vifer's PvP tournaments are amazing, but if yostar established an official PvP league or something (and invite Vifer to be the commentator because he's great at it) then I think they could really tighten up the community. The first time I saw one of Vifer's PvP videos, I was actually blown away by how compelling and engaging it was. For one thing, I did not think AK could be adapted to a PvP format and was pretty pessimistic going into that first video, but its surprisingly simple and elegant. And beyond that, it actually lends itself amazingly well to tense, fast paced competition despite opponents not directly interacting at all

This might be an unpopular take, but this idea of a game needing to be pro-content creation is somewhat odd. Content creators of this type essentially leach to make money off of a game they did not develop. It’s one thing to share strategies for free and simple reputation among the community like it happened even back in the day. But, doing this like a business to make money is just appalling. Sooner the trend dies off the better.

    • @mayatree0
      @mayatree0 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

I think you misunderstand. The point here is not to make AK some "pro-content creation" (whatever you mean by this lol). Content Creators are necessary for game like Arknights because of how extremely hard to promote such a game. Hell, the reason why AK CN is a literal behemoth was not just because of AK itself but because of its huge community of Content Creators that range from niche clears, lore videos, to guides. HG are fully aware of this, hence why AK CN content creators are given so many privilege like early access to their irl events and many more. Also your point about CC "leach to make money off a game they did not develop" is such a weird point. If you are only dedicated about money, go crypto or some shit instead of a game that the general gacha community has not been a fan of for merely being a tower defence game.

  • @tfh2711
    @tfh2711 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

As far as the content creation in Arknights creation is concerned,
Firstly, every aspect of Arknights content has already been covered by a major content creator. For instance, Guides from Kyo, Story lore from Frostbyte, Operator review from Yii ( used to be ), .EXE from TakDes, Base and account progression guide from Kukikaze, Operator animations, skins from RiverV and Whale account reviews from you, etc. But sadly there are less and less collabs between them. We do lack community events with involvement of every big content creator. There should have been at least one like Jeopardy for each new interesting event to promote the game, ask questions about its side story, theory crafting, funny challenges in hard stages, discussion of operator kits ( tier lists, ... ), or like race to P6 when new banner comes out, interviews... I feel like AK content creators just scatter around, do their own things and niches without any interactions or anything.
Secondly, most of Arknights content only tend to satisfy long-time Arknights players, not for newbie or like those who want to try the game out. For example they just don't want to watch a showcase which they have to grind for 6 months to be able to replicate. You have to understand that new players are the prime target for monetization. I know it is immoral but in terms of transactions, they are totally clueless and we have to take fully advantage from that, show them how to whale, rewind videos of why you should play AK now, AK's greatness as a strategy game, or why the game is not just simply tower-defense orientated, ... You cannot farm money from experienced AK players since they know how to save up, clear stages on their own,... Most of AK revenue is from 120-level players, hence it is so low... I admit beginner guides are still relevant but outdated, like if I want to play AK now, I'm not gonna watch guides made from like 2 or 3 years ago.... It shows that maybe the game content only focuses those who play since launch. It almost feels like new players are disregarded, like if you are a newbie, don't even dare to try hard stages, just do your plain things like daillies and story stages. It makes sense but still they will find boredom soon.
Thirdly, the most important reason is Endfied is coming !
Especially for new players, what is the point ot playing AK when Endfield will be released soon. They're not willing to waste a year to reach mid and end-game content in Arknights and then just leave everything to start playing Endfield. AK Endfiled was teased too early, it is still in a technical test hence it has some sort of criticism: The game still needs to be polished like a lot in terms of combat and animations. Somehow it leads to the downfall of AK and the future of Endfield as well. Still I believe Endfied will be great in its complete version but Arknights is dying. With new gacha games emerge, new players are not gonna start playing Arknights now. They can litterally just wait till Endfield or those new games come out.
Same for new content creators, what is the point of starting to make AK content from now, trying to become relevant and trending like you or other big content creators, trying to build an AK community on their own and in the end, they will be left alone because of Endfield ? There is also a reference to Girls' Frontline (GF). Don't you find it foolish to start making content for GF1 when GF2 is coming soon ? Arknights has been out for like 4 years, and the truth is smart and new content creators will focus on covering new and trending games only and perhaps stick to a main game where they find themselves popular. AK does not look promising at all for new youtubers. Additionally, it has been dominated and farmed by long-time content creators.
    P/S:
Please don't discredit other AK youtubers and content creators ! They try their hardest to make specific content for their own viewers, what their own community wants to watch the most. Going wild and trying out new things in their content could possibly destroy their channels. I mean like Kukikaze and you can go creative and pave the way for AK content creation. Because even if you fail, at least you already have such a strong onlyfan base to back you up, to support you no matter what ! But it's just not for others, it's such a big gamble for them, they risk losing everything !
As far as monetization is concerned, I'm not looking down to f2p players. I am myself a f2p as well. I do genuinely endorse, look up and praise whales, lifespenders ( goldfish ) since I know the game needs money to develop. Nevertheless, f2p players are still important. They make the gaming commmunity engaging, they grind everyday to make the game remain revelant and contribute to the active playerbase in Arknights. That's why guides are still needed : AK is hardcore and not casual like Genshin. I mean we can find it funny that new players quit AK, claiming the game is too hard. But it's the actual truth... I wonder why f2p term has become such a meme in the whole gacha community itself... Is being poor a crime ? Like if those f2p players have extra money, I'm sure that they will support AK financially through transactions or they will just play other much more interesting games like GTAV, Starfield,... So yeah they are just trying their best to make Arknights still revelant, active and to confirm that the game is not dead yet. So don't look down on them.
And let's just keep it straight ! Yii is such an opportunist content creator like Box2. He foresaw the doom future of Arknights so he decides to quit now and wait for new games coming out so as to become a big content creator there. It is what it is ! I do respect and love the guy, he is very smart indeed !

I think this video goes beyond just being a conversation on Arknights and is more a conversation on the current landscape of mobile live-service games. I don’t particularly play Arknights (though I enjoy watching content regarding it) but I do primarily play PGR and a lot of comments made here are very relevant to that game as well. The mobile game sphere is very competitive and almost bloated at this point which makes carving out a niche, or at a higher level, mainstream popularity incredibly difficult. Best of luck to the Arknights community though, you guys have definitely made a name for yourselves and it’s well deserved!

Also it's kinda funny that the community thinks that when the content creation side of things "die" for a gacha game that means the game itself is also dying... Bruh BA content creation almost doesn't exist but the game itself has proven that it's going strong.

BA has student showcases, raids and guides, ofc it has, but it also has a lot of meme creators, illustrators, funny and provocative videos, AI voice over memes, etc.

Maybe it’s only in the Asian community but global usually gets nothing. The way it is, it’s just a niche game with a solid and stable community. The only TH-cam content I ever see about Arknights is guides. Lol

How do people play so many gacha games? It either takes way too much money or way too much time.
Like I started AK a year late and it took me a lot of consistency and money to catch up with my friends who played from release. By now I have everything and am happy but it was a huge investment. I recently started playing AL but I am already considering dropping it because their events consume way too much time (on top of AK) and I am unwilling to pay too much into it. They grab for a lot of money, for dock space, gear space, pulls, skins.
So with all these games out and them being so popular and seemingly played by everyone in the sphere… how?!
Is it like a “Play the FOTM and move on when new FOTM arrives” kinda thing? If so then I could understand why I didn’t get it because that is antithetical to how I play games.

For me, I played Honkai impact for like 4years. Lots of memories and things I like, I stopped playing it completely because I'm not happy with the way developers are doing.
Genshin: I enjoyed it in its 1st year. Now the game feels boring mainly due to the non-rewarding ultimate grinding experience. I quit it for good. It is a good game in general but not for me anymore.
ZZZ seems big but as someone who has played HoYoverse games for years. I can already see the same formula in this game. I'm not gonna enjoy it.
I'm enjoying Arknights atm. I can really feel the quality of this game. Everything is well made and very casual friendly. The biggest reason, there is less powercreep. Even the earliest 6 stars are viable. Every character has value and it feels good getting every one of them.

Ironically a wall of text incoming, so sorry for that. LOL
While they are ultimately different games, I really do hope that Endfield acts more as a continuation of the legacy that Arknights leaves behind and deserves recognition for--not that it's dying or anything, but that's kind of what it feels like it might turn into. Especially speaking from a content creator perspective--I focused mainly on Genshin content creation over on Twitter, and I really wish I could do the same for Arknights. But it's like you said. It just doesn't gain nearly as much traction even though the community itself is so passionate about it. I hope that changes with Endfield (and also the anime!), and I have high hopes for it since it feels like something that people could get into even if they haven't played Arknights before.
I also feel like... the formatting for Arknights in general leaves a lot to be desired in terms of content creating. People can make so many memes and videos about the gameplay itself, but when it comes down to the storytelling and lore aspects of it, it basically turns into a novel. In order for people to understand content that was created based on that, they would have to 1.) read aaaaaaaaaall of the text regarding that part of the lore and 2.) understand all of it. Which is a lot. LOL
It's also sad because the lore, in my opinion and probably many others', is one of the huge selling points of Arknights and what makes it such a great game. Many other games have storytelling that is so much less stale, and I'm sorry for saying that but that's just how it is. Barely anything moves in the dialogue scenes, there's no voice acting, barely any special effects, no animated cutscenes for huge story points (this is excluding the trailers and stuff), and just tons of text. Massive amounts of text. Waaaaaaaaay too much text.
Like for context btw I love the lore and DO spend time reading all of the story parts and dialogue and whatever for main story and events, but it's just SO MUCH text--which was also confirmed that multiple events have enough text to rival or surpass actual books. And that's why I'm hoping things like Endfield and the anime do a good job of making the storytelling more interesting while condensing the need for all the text and adding elements into the lore aspect that people can use to better understand everything. Because understanding the game easier from a third party perspective = easier to make content that people will understand and like.
Also Yostar needs to stop restricting literally everything. They're such a drag.

What i would like to say is that content creation for tower defense games is quite tough to do and kinda dry and cut. There is only so much entertaining you can squeeze out of events, new stages and such.Besides Lore,Event and Operator guides along with tutorials for stages and gacha pulls there isn t much to do videos about.

for the gacha game it self by player base, AK honestly quite decent. as same as BA, Nikke, PGR, or the New Re:1999. for carrier as CC gacha game is quite unstable and i think its okay to change game. what Yosar dont do is support their CC, like Vifer said. Hoyo, on CC side is always reach out their CC. they have good intend to communicate, but dosent mean this was easy. you can see on dead week (1-2 week before live annouce program) they kinda strugle to what else you must stream so kinda in same situation but better boat.
for AK Enfield to canibal their AK player think they wont. but there is will part of player move on. because honestly playing AK. its like playing waiting game. "what happen in CN server its gonna happen in global so better wait" and this will keep repeat each half year. the differnt with HOYO game is they start on same time so there is much time to interact and learn each other from other community. make the game community more lively (both in positive and negative )
