The daughter doesn't really seem to care anymore. She isn't there for her mother's pain, her apology, or remorse. She's there for herself. To look her tormentor in the eye and show her that she's still standing regardless. Even if her mom could somehow make up for it, it wouldn't matter to her anymore.

To whoever is reading this, you do not owe your parents anything. You are your own person. You don't belong to your parents. You are not responsible for them or their feelings. Toxic is toxic and you do have the right to go on no contact with your parents.

I hate my mother with all my might. She traumatised me when i was just a kid, she used to grab me by my arms and thrash me back and forth, she would also take my teddy bear away and hide it, i've had that teddy bear since i was born. She would also put all of my toys in a trash bag infront of me when i did not tidy up my bedroom when i was a kid. And to this day, i am a 15yr male, and she locks the room my Xbox console is in, and takes away my laptop, and i've tried many times to explain to her that i am 15 and not a kid. She does not want to listen. And i can't even get a drink from the drinks room in my garage, because my bloody mother thinks that i will drink a whole pack of Coke in a day. And believe it or not, i prefer to m@sterbate at night times when there is no noise outside, but my mother comes up to my door every time telling me "laptop now" in an extremely ugly voice. SHE DOES NOT WANT ME TO HAVE PRIVACY TO MYSELF. And believe it or not, a few years ago when i was younger, she even tried to call a residential or something infront of me, and i would pray to stay home, i would do that enough to convince her that i should stay at home. And sometimes when i'm playing on my Xbox, and it's nighttime, she just walks right in and snatches my xbox contoller and headset off me. I've had enough of all of this, i promise in the name of Jesus Christ, i will kill my mother sooner or later.

I understand why she can’t forgive her mother. I’ve had a rocky relationship with my own mother, and as a child I would verbally attack her for the things she did to me. I always blamed her for everything bad that involved me when I was the one who caused it. I finally had the courage to tell my mom about how I feel. I don’t hate my mother, I never did, but i held a grudge on her for a long time. I hated admitting that, and nothing hurts me more than telling her. My mother and I are doing great now, but we both need to work on our impulses. Hurting her over things I've caused was one of the most pathetic actions I've ever done. I cannot forgive my mother either! I am now 54 years old and if I would have kept her out of my life at your age I would not have suffered even more abuse as life went on. I was taken away at 15 years old and could have sued her for all of the physical damage and abuse back then and I would not be strapped with the financial burden of it now..My mother's beatings were so bad that I developed scoliosis from it and she refused to treat me with a back brace because the doctors would see all of the whip marks and bruises on my backside from her beatings. I now live with severe scoliosis that cripples me. There is sooo much more she has done and all I got from her was a tiny little apology and she thinks thats enough. I will never heal from the effects of her abuse. She says, I just like living in the past and that I need to just "get over it". So if you let her in your life STAY GUARDED AND NEVER LET HER BABYSIT . I didn't like her appology, she said you didn't deserve it because you were just a little kid! WRONG ANSWER So, I think your mom is always going to be hurtful towards you just like mine is. . If I would have kept her out of my life she would not have been able to mentally manipulate me throughout the rest of my life. JUST STAY AWAY FROM HER!

Her *“you were just a child”* didn’t sit right with me. She’s distancing herself from fully acknowledging that the adult in front of her is the same person she abused, almost like she did it to someone else. Also, it sounds like she would’ve been using the same phrase to justify or minimise it in her mind. “Just” = insignificant, unimportant, whatever. It’s not like it’s a full fledged human being or something, it’s “just” a child. So many people treat children like a different species, especially when it comes to their own. It’s tragic and really f*ing hard for me to wrap my mind around.

My mom was a traumatized person from WW2, having been raised right in the middle of a horrific war in Germany. She never sought out any help, and so my brother and I were raised by a narcissist. In the end, I forgave her, she said she was sorry, even though she admitted that she didn't know what she had done wrong. Life can be complicated, and hard, so I understand, and truly believe that she did her best. She wasn't a "bad" person, and now she's gone, and I miss her. We were apart for many years. That's life.
