      Thanks! It's been really nice getting back into a workflow I know so well. And the MKII version is SUCH a nice upgrade over the MKI.

      Thanks! It was fun to get up to speed with the MKII version, I really like the improvements they made. And it's dead easy to see what's going on in bright daylight too. A rarity these days!

    • @tarekith

      Thank you. Yep, there's nothing at all wrong with the Octatrack sound quality. People either don't know how to mix properly or just parrot whatever controversial thing they hear about gear these days.

    @tarekith..... I would love to know how you structured your set in the OT. I'm struggling with my OT.

    • @tarekith
      @tarekith  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      One part and pattern is a "song" for me. I only use 4 patterns per bank to keep everything 1 to 1. Track 1 is kick and snare, track 2 is percussion, track 3 is cymbals, 4 is baseline, 5 is leads and synths, 6 is pads and fills. Track 7 is dedicated to the crossfader transition trick, and track 8 is master.

    Quick questions for you @tarekith . I've been watching your review videos on the Mc-707 and I'm extremely new to the world of the grooveboxes. I just purchased my 707 (still waiting for it to come in), but I'm curious to know if it's a better unit than the Roland MV-1. I've been producing music for a long time, so the idea of being able to make entire songs with vocals on them seems cool as hell, but the 707 seems to be more functional. Seeing as I'm new to grooveboxes, it appears that it's going to take quite a while to get used to using the 707. So I'm interested to hear your thoughts on a beginner jumping straight into a 707, and is it better than the MV-1?

    • @tarekith
      @tarekith  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry, no idea, I've never used or even seen the MV-1 in person.

  • @isaac.anthony
    @isaac.anthony ปีที่แล้ว

    @tarekith why are your octachains 110bpm? i used yours as a template to make my own, i'm curious if it was just the tempo you've been working at, or a size reason?

    • @tarekith
      @tarekith  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That was just the tempo I was using a lot at the time for my live sets. File size wasn't;t even something I thought about to be honest. :)

  • @VANVASSS
    @VANVASSS 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Nice set ! When you change patterns with cross fader … are you listening the pattern you will introduce before move the cross fader to the transition ?

    • @tarekith
      @tarekith  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      No I'm not cueing up the next pattern, though it would be easy enough to do on the OT if I wanted to. I know the songs pretty well so know what to expect from each song usually.

  • @1samwhich
    @1samwhich 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hey Tarekith, I'm curious has the Octatrack replaced your TR8S? I've just bought an OT Mk2 for playing backing tracks/drum loops produced in Ableton but am starting to wonder if i'd get more hands-on enjoyment having my drums in a seperate box like the TR8S. I was planning to map my Launch Control XL to drums in the OT. Whats your experience/thoughts on this? Cheers!

    • @tarekith
      @tarekith  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not the Octatrack, but the MC707 had enough overlap with the TR8S that I no longer felt I needed it.

    • @1samwhich
      @1samwhich 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@tarekith gotcha! I'm still making my way through your videos. Sneak preview: did you keep the TR8S of the MC-707?

    • @tarekith
      @tarekith  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@1samwhich I sold the TR-8s a few years ago, the MC707 just does all I need on that front and more. At least for my workflow.

    Do you prefer performing with OT or MC707?

    • @tarekith
      @tarekith  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh, good question! For me it's less about which I prefer and more about what kind of songs I'm trying to play live. With the MC707, all the material I perform was written specifically on the 707 with performance in mind. With the OT I'm taking my studio created albums and shaping them into something I can actually perform, even though they weren't written with that in mind.
      Overall I'd say I think the MC707 is the more flexible of the two, but at the same time I've been performing with the OT for so many years it's second nature to me by now.
