I hosted my very first session as a dm last Thursday and thanks to all of your videos I learned a lot about world building and role play. It played out fantastically and we played for over 6 hours. Any tips on how I can make session two just as fun?
If you had fun, stick to the same formula, while trying to infuse some new things occasionally that will surprise players. Also, ask players what they enjoy most about the game. Glad it went well! 😊
This channel is amazing, and one of the reasons I'm back into D&D after being away from it for a few years. I would also recommend one other channel, "Dungeon Craft", for general DM advice and world building tips. For me, these are the only two channels that are worth the time to subscribe to.
I'm currently producing a homebrew campaign for my two best friends. It'll be my first time DM'ing for our group and WASD20 has been a frequent channel I visit!!
Very, very well explained. You catch up every detail that is missed or hard to find in the rulebooks, or even other videos. Perfect for beginners like me. Best rule school out there, I want to thank you for that.
I bought DnD last Saturday and played it with my children two times already. I got the ice spire set. I love it! I'm watching your videos to learn how to play more accurately!
I am new to being a DM and trying to introduce a brand new set of first time players. I struggled with reading all instructions in the guide books as I am a very visual and oral learner, these videos have been brilliant for me!
Just wanted to thank you! Last winter I learned how to play d&d by watching your videos and now I've been DMing weekly for over a year and have even taken up painting minis.

I had my first try at D&D with The Starter set with some friends just yesterday. We had a blast! I can't thank you enough for all the help I got from your videos, they were (and are) really helpfull in making me understand the game and how to coordinate things as the DM.
I am an old-school 2nd edition player, now coming back to it after 25 years and learning 5th edition. Your videos have been HUGE in helping me learn this new system and get back into it. I'm getting my DM chops back and it is sweet! Thank you.
Thank you so much! My players and I are all new and we got so confused about damage. Kept thinking rolling a 20 on the do-you-hit-goblin roll that had something to do with how much damage. Hit roll and damage are two diff rolls. GOT IT!

Thanks for the walk through and explanation of combat. Nice to have it simply explained. My first game as a PC I was lost as the DM did not really explain anything. Getting ready for Baldur's Gate III. I never had the friends to introduce me to DnD so I stick to these computer games and absolutely love it. Just wanted to thanks for the info. Subscribed and waiting for more content.

If you have the Starter Set and Essentials Kit for D&D 5e, then replace the pre-gen party with all Wood Elves. Each has a short sword and a bow (+5 TH and +3 damage) with the Criminal Background for Stealth and Deception. All have Criminal Contact, Stealthy, Fey, Darkvision and Trance, Initiative +3 and Speed 35 with dark clothes and hood. Rogue: STR 8(-1) DEX 16(+3) CON 12(+1) INT 10(0) WIS 16(+3) CHA 13(+1) AC 14 Leather Armor, Thieves Cant with Expertise in Stealth & Sleight of Hand (+7) Both Fighters: STR 13(+1) DEX 16(+3) CON 12(+1) INT 10(0) WIS 16(+3) CHA 8(-1) AC 17 Leather Armor & Shield, 2nd Wind, Defense +1 Cleric: STR 8(-1) DEX 16(+3) CON 12(+1) INT 10(0) WIS 16(+3) CHA 13(+1) AC 16 Leather Armor & Shield, Spell attack +5 and spell saving throw DC 13. Wizard: STR 10(0) DEX 16(+3) CON 12(+1) INT 13(+1) WIS 16(+3) CHA 8(-1) AC 13 Spell attack +3 and spell saving throw DC 11. The fighters become Eldritch Knights and the Rogue an Arcane Trickster for even more magic. The Cleric can Help the Wizard search ahead. They have a Passive Wisdom of 15, with Advantage from Help for a value 20, plus the cantrip Guidance to add 1-4 if one is rolled. That's +10+1d4, so your party is basically never surprised. The Wizard can also send a Mage Hand ahead with a Robe so that it looks like a decoy to harmlessly trigger any enemy ambush. Always have one character Help another with an ability roll. This gives you advantage, so you roll twice and take the best roll. Thus, if the Cleric Helps by distracting the mark, then the Rogue gets to roll twice at +7 to Pick his Pocket. All Wood Elves can hide and each is Proficient in Stealth (+5 or +7), so you should get Surprise Attack a lot. Have the Fighters move up to contact and Dodge while the others attack. Good Luck!

sorry if this is a stupid qeustion but on the character scheet you have a bit name: "attack dice". on a character I made this was for instance: a D12, but if you have to use a D20 to determine damage, what is the attack dice for? (ps: I have to game for 3 days now and have been studying all 3 5th edition manuals non stop since then, it's like practicing for an exam except it's actually fun and 10 time s as difficult)
We do max all dice rolled once and then roll regularly so it doesn't feel so bad rolling all 1s. Or something like cut off finders or hand or foot, something lol. But your videos are great.
@@WASD20 and now my learning has been stopped, at least I made a plan to make a map for my self, and I’ll ask the party which direction they want to go and only let them see the map when they purchase one in-game, this is so when they go somewhere there will always be planned story and not on the go stuff, the only time where you have to do it on the go is if they go to another realm or other planes of existence, etc but you can make maps for those too just in case!

Awesome videos! I'm trying to learn as much as possible before I start running a game with my son. We created his character with the help of your other video.
my house rule when in comes to crits uses the B.A.D.A.S.S method by Bill Allen, i find it gives crit hits, a much needed increase, so as not be a wasted crit on 2 damage.
I'd like an advanced piece to this topic explaining dash and the other less talked about actions. New dnd player hoping to actually play a first game sometime soon.
You got something about surprise wrong. You can't move or act on your TURN, but once your turn passes you get your reaction back. This matters if the surpriser rolled lower initiative than the surprised as it opens up potential counterplay. This is listed on page 189 of the Player's Handbook for reference. This is probably the #1 core mechanic people get wrong in 5th edition and I see a lot of guides and rules videos giving incorrect information on it, which I'm sure is part of the reason so many people get it wrong.
I know this more an advanced question but what about run to your opponent use misty step above your opponent 10 ft then do a striking fall attack. Could you calculate success of 1d6 of fall damage as you'd be using your opponent to break your fall plus a 1d20 on your attack roll have the total against opponents AC? Then if it does hit recalculate fall damage to strike damage of attack being used as youd be using gravitational force to the attack performed? Also what about using your movement as a added charge to an attack. For example say your 20 ft away and you use all 30ft of movement in your attack could you use the extra 10 ft of "velocity" and add that to your attack roll? For example say 1d4 or 1d6 + 1d20 + strength or dex mod(depending on finesse weapon usage)? Then roll damage of same 1d4 or 1d6 + weapon or spell dice + proficency?
You can get some help from your fellow gamers at the table! If they're your friends, they'll have no problem helping you determine how you went making dice throws. Don't feel bad! Focus on creating a good description of your attack or how you interact with the other characters and non player characters. The story and discussion is arguably more important than dice rolls. Good luck!❤
Been waiting for this to drop. I'm a new dm and I post these videos to my group on whatsapp. Bit lazy of me, but they are so accessible for beginners! Thank you for your work.
I m new to this, only had one session before and now i got into bg3, I have to say that the most counterintuitive and immersion breaking thing is that the heavier arrmor something has the more likely it is for an attacker to miss (not be blocked or absorbed or do less damage) and if you wanna be that skilled fighter/rouge/monk who wears light armor or no armor and dodges most of the attacks you re out. Not even speaking of huge slow creatures who have high ac and your character cant aim a fuking crossbow point blank at
New to D&D here. I really appreciate your videos. They have been very helpful. Can you tell me how a DM would go about combat when there are multiple enemies? For example, if there were two goblins, would he/she do separate attack rolls for each or roll for both in the same turn?
I think it would depend on how said DM wanted to go about it- whether the enemies are faceless mooks like the goblin example you gave, or important NPCs can also play a role. For example, a DM may roll for both their attack; on goblin one’s turn, they attack and fail to hit. On goblin two’s turn, while they’re using the same roll, they choose a different target with a lower AC, landing a hit and having a different outcome. Of course, this is just an example. Lots of people DM differently, and it’s up to you (assuming you asked because you wanted to be one) to figure out the best way for you. Remember that even Picasso drew scribbles at one point, and the best way to get good at something is to do that thing. I’m sure you can do it! ╰(*´︶`*)╯♡

For example say 1d4 or 1d6 + 1d20 + strength or dex mod(depending on finesse weapon usage)? Then roll damage of same 1d4 or 1d6 + weapon or spell dice + proficency?

I m new to this, only had one session before and now i got into bg3, I have to say that the most counterintuitive and immersion breaking thing is that the heavier arrmor something has the more likely it is for an attacker to miss (not be blocked or absorbed or do less damage) and if you wanna be that skilled fighter/rouge/monk who wears light armor or no armor and dodges most of the attacks you re out. Not even speaking of huge slow creatures who have high ac and your character cant aim a fuking crossbow point blank at
Rather than a complete miss , in game, I do often describe a “miss” as being deflected off armor or shield. Or a blow that is parried.
For movement, wouldn't it be easier to keep track of number of squares you can move? So if a monster is 6 squares away, you can reach it in one turn.
Thanks Nate !!!
MOOOOAAAAAR

I really like this series!! Can you please continue with this serie!! Keep it up
New to D&D here.
Very well done. This type of video is very helpful.
Here because of BG III. :D
Just what I was looking for.
