      When we got to the hyperinflation part, you may have begun to understand what a huge impact the defeat and forced peace treaty had on Germany. The extremely harsh peace conditions, under incredible pressure, forced Germany to accept this peace treaty, which was completely pissed off. Not least because the victors backed away from their own demands before the armistice of 1918 and did not stick to the promises they had made. We have to look very briefly at the time between the armistice in November 18 and the conclusion of the peace treaty on June 28, 1919. The hunger blockade by the Allied fleet was not lifted during this time, while the Germans withdraw all their troops home (at the start of the armistice, there was not a single Allied boot on German soil. By Christmas, the entire area west of the Rhine was occupied and a large bridgehead had been established across the river), the Luftwaffe had been disbanded and all ships of the Imperial fleet that the Allies had demanded were interned unarmed in Scotland.
      The continuation of this blockade, including for food, led to 850,000 people starving to death in Germany. There were also 1 million refugees from areas that, under the treaty, now belonged to other nations. The Germans in Alsace in particular feared the revenge of the French victors and fled in their hundreds of thousands (who were even banned from speaking German). Added to this were the occupations and with hyperinflation, the Germans lost practically all of their life savings. Now you can imagine how pissed off and ripped off the Germans felt. And now you can imagine how easy it was for the Nazis to play their dirty game...

    The events of the Weimar Republic (decade between ww1 and ww2), should be part of the curriculum of every school in the western world. Its so important to understand, how economic and political failure can lead to desaster. Learning about the political situation that leads to war, is more important than learning about the war itself.

    Born and raised in the GDR and never experienced a shortage of anything crucial like toilet paper or drinks. I remember a shortage of building material when my parents built their house. They couldn't get another delivery of the exact same tiles they needed and had to become creative combining two different kinds. Or sometimes my mum picked me up just in the middle of a school day to buy a certain kind of clothing, because that wasn't available all the time and you had to be quick to buy. And then the most popular of all shortages - bananas - but that only applies to the countryside, where they were available like 4-5 times a year only and every person only got a certain amount. It was different in the larger cities - especially Berlin.

    My thoughts (as a german) on germania(black woman) were more of a heraldic nature. Let me explain...
    The german colors are Black, red and gold. Germania is a black woman with red lipstick and golden necklace and other accessories...
    Makes totally sense to me...
    By the way in Weimar times the Colors were black, white and and red(also in Nazi times) and that is refected in the dress of Germania, very thoughtful if you ask me,

    There is a TV Series called The Barbarians and it covers Armenius and the Battle in that Forest against the Romans.

  • @tosa2522
    @tosa2522 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

    I don't know if it was mentioned in the video, but Arminius was the son of a Germanic chieftain and was taken as a pawn by the Romans to prevent Arminius' tribe from rising up against the Romans. Arminius was treated well in Rome and introduced to the Roman way of life and was therefore also given military training. The Romans probably thought that if he absorbed the Romans' good way of life, he would remain loyal to Rome in the future.
    The Romans caused the Germanic revolt by demanding high taxes. However, the Germanic tribes had nothing to give because they were self-sufficient and did not produce any surpluses. The penalties imposed by the Romans for not paying taxes then did the rest to increase the hatred.

    • @Efka68
      @Efka68 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      the video starts at 16 AD. Arminius was at that time dead, i think. So he initiated the union of the german tribes and they defeated the romans. The start of the video is with corps hanging in the trees. That is what the germanic tribes do to fear the romans as they come back to "solve the problem".

    If Iam right there is a Netflix show about the Battle of the germanic tribes with roman soldiers. Not sure what its called though. If you can watch it somewhere Iam not sure where it is shown or if its shwon in the US/Canada but the show "Babylon Berlin" takes place in the 1920s in Germany and is a fantastic produced Political Crime and Thriller show with some real life characters showing up and is digging deep into the Weimar Republic. It is sort of a Detective show so tis really entertaining and educational as well. Totally recommended if yall are looking for a new TV show. Definitely check out the trailer.

    The split in eadt and west was imposed by the Allies in 1945. They also gave Prussia to the USSR, today it is Russian and called Kaliningrad.
    The regional civil wars can best be explained by Germany being a federation like the US. Up till 1873, what became Germany was made up af hundreds of kingdoms, princedoms, dukedoms, bishoprics, city states, etc, etc. Bavaria was one of the large and powerful ones, and even in The Great War (WW1) they had their own army and administration.

    Why Germany attaches so much importance to the correct reproduction of the Holocaust. This is because when misrepresentations (e.g. the “Hunters” series) are circulating and what is depicted (the subject of the Holocaust, brutal murders) turns out to be greatly exaggerated, other groups point out that this was also in the real Holocaust Not everything is as the survivors report.

    It wasn't Rammstein that looked cheap with the pre-release snippet, but the people who made a disaster out of it. And it wasn't the Germans, they all bought the album, but first and foremost the left-wing mainstream media. These are the ones who, without knowing the context, have themselves thought in racist and anti-Semitic terms. All it took was four German actors to dress up, as that's the job. And yes, at that moment, Rammstein were just actors in a trailer for a later film. That's it. And a scandal was made about it.
    That was years ago and in the meantime people in Germany have already reached the point where if you have a different opinion against the mainstream and the left-wing government, you are immediately branded a Nazi here. The Nazi card is immediately drawn and you are canceled and publicly destroyed so that everyone stays in line.

      Suuuuure, the 'mainstrea media' is left wing. lol. As if ANYTHING billionaires own is left wing, especially the mainstream media.
      Oh, and how the heck can the FDP (the most neo-liberal party in Germany) be part of a LEFT WING government? Since when are cuts to a social safety net to have a 'black zero' LEFT WING? Oh well, probally only in a world in which the blue snowflakes are called the 'real conservatives', lol.

      That Rammstein looked cheap is an opinion you can disagree with thats fine.
      But it complete nonsense to spread the lie that you get cancelled or your Life destroyed if you are not in the left. The CDU a center right party is the strongest in the polls. If what you are saying is true they would not be so strong. Maybe the Nazi card gets pulled to freely but you make it seem that the goverment is extremly left which is just a joke. I am polically left and think the goverment is performing very badly.
      The only party that clearly gets called out is the AfD. And they have without a doubt fashists, nationalist and right wing extremist in their ranks, even in higher positions. German courts and the Verfassungsschutz clearly ruled that.

      funnily enough, this was mentioned in the video, seems like you are on of those guys going around "you can not tell it how it is anymore". and the outrage over this came mainly from Springer-press, which ironically, while being pro-israel, is also very conservative and pro-war, as you can see nowadays again anymore with the war in ukraine and so on. I think you people are the problem, not a supposed "left wing government", which is anything but at tzhe moment, with the SPD forgetting their working roots, the greens basically becoming the CDU with some environmentalism spread on top and an FDP that, while being the smallest party, dictates the financial policy right now, which will lead to more misery while cutting social funding, but having no problems spending billions for military again. so tell me, who are the real right leaning guys here, and where is that supposed "left-wing-mainstream"? seems to me that is just your impression, but the real-life, not twitter idiots shouting at each other, is clearly right-wing oriented, not only in germany, but whole of europe. closing of borders, cutting back on social stuff, strict saving policies, people are doing really bad with high prices for flats, food, what have you, but yeah, all totally "left wing" here, I can already feel socialism coming /sarcasm out.
