Lol - exactly! I'm a spoon carver, and as you were saying to keep yourself out of the path of the knife, i was thinking, " good for him! It's just like spoon carving..." then you said, "just like spoon carving..." ha! I love these little thoughtful and important tips you always offer. Thanks. And nice application of wet molds, too.
I use the BG pill shape wet molds for tote style bag bottoms! They look higher end and make the construction easier! I do wish BG would offer a custom wet mold service! There’s so many other shapes I’d like to have but don’t want to make them by hand! Having a cnc mill/router is definitely nice for precise molds with accurate leather tolerances! Happy holidays Eric!
I had thought of using the oval mold for the bottoms of of the Corter bucket bag plans. I’m glad to hear they work for your totes. Lots of possibilities
Hi Eric, I just wanted to leave a thank you note. I have been watching your videoes for some time and really appreciate the way you demonstrate and comment on each step and leatherworking in general. I have learned many tricks from you. It was nice seeing you as well. Great work on that wheightloss. Congratulations. I hope you have come even further down in the months since this video was released. Warm regards Tore, Norway
Made a few bike bags this way. To avoid having to jam the end caps inside the main body, you can instead assemble/wrap the main body around the end caps!
I've been following your channel for some time. It is the first time I see your face. Feels funny is like I cannot put your voice together with your face. You look completly different of what I thought you'll look. 😂 Love your work.
I built my own lunchbox out of leather that I take to work everyday. I made 3 pockets on the outside of it using wet molds. That made it very easy to make them.
Eric why don't you put the mold back on - draw your stich line on the out side - punch it on the out side into the wood mold. I don't think it would hurt those strong pricking irons.
I know there is vinagroon and stuff, but it would be really cool to know how to make your own leather dye. Pigment, powders oils etc… almost zero resources on this
Someone correct me if this approach wouldn't work: first punch the holes in the body of the bag before while it's still flat, *before* it's curved and the ends are attached. Then once the ends are glued in, use an awl to punch through the existing holes and through the wet-formed ends. That way you ensure a perfectly straight line on the "show" face. It would certainly add time to the process, so maybe it's not something you'd be doing if you're trying to maximize output.
Hi Eric! I just want to say that you inspire me and I adore your videos they are FANTASTIC! I’ve been binge watching and enjoying every minute! I am interested in your Buckleguy chisels but wanted to ask you about how wide they are at the top of handle/to widest point of handle? I use a drill press for my chisel to reduce noise because of my little ones, but I’m nervous they may not fit. Would you be able to help me with those measurements? Thanks so much!!!!☺️☺️☺️
11:23 I had to laugh, my dad gets all of my “prototypes” too! I saw a guy do a similar thing using one of those cylinders that salt comes in (or quaker oats too) as his wet mold, but it probably wasn’t as form fitting as the wooden jig you’ve got there.
my apologies if you already went over it in another video im new to the channel, but whats that thick backing board are you using when you use the stitching chisels to punch into
7:14 hey so for this part what is the benefit of evening the edges with the knife instead of just using say, a Dremel or rotary tool to sand them even, then using the sandpaper? I’d imagine…from experience… the Dremel is potentially more destructive and easier to accidentally hit the top grain or something but curious for your take on it.
Where did you get the mold for the shave kit? I made a barrel purse that looks like that. Second bag I made. Is that an avaible pattern? What is the size?
It's a plated veg tan from Japan - I honestly have only had 2 hides of it and it's dumb expensive and I would only recommend it to try out and get it out of your system. But dad gets the best :)
I believe this might be the first comment I’ve ever made on your videos. I’ve been watching your content for several years. It’s kinda odd, but I feel like you are one of my friends or something. Thank you for all the great content you’ve shared with us over the years. Congratulations on your success both in your private life, and professionally. Merry Christmas. Thanks for all you do.
Congratulations on your weight loss. Love your videos and finally seeing the man behind the camera. I hope 2024 will be your best year ever. Keep up the amazing work!
Dude! What a year for you! Looking great! Over coming your personal obstacles (which we all have some sort of), making your own tool line and continuing your leather crafting journey solo! I’m so happy for you dude! Every time you put out a new video I’m inspired to up my leather work! Merry Christmas and here’s to an even better year to come! P.s. you really should think about putting some fried chicken on those salads because you really are still making us larger leather crafters feel left out! So happy for you pal! -Jersey Joe
Thanks for another great video. Feel free to ramble away! On your reco I just picked up a cobbler’s anvil. Can’t wait to put it to use! Cheers! Jack (Salty Badger Leatherworks)

Another one of my favorite uses of the wet molds! They look so fancy!

Looking good. Watching from Australia regularly. Thank you
Rock on Eric. Love your channel!

Good to see ya, thanks for the tips.
Great video... as always! Thank you!

Thanks for sharing.
The squarish mold with rounded corners works great for this style of bag also. Each face is almost flat.

Yea but you'd prolly hurt the mold. And leave marks that would mess up the next thing you mold
How would you know it would match back up? When I made mine I had to use a hand awl and do ine hole at a time from the inner ring outward.
Glue both sides together with contact cement punch them both at the same time then stitch them together.@@jonathananthonyhumphries2486

Great 👍 Video 📹
Good 'nough for Dad. Dads of the world understand.😉
Congratulations on the progress on your weight. Thanks for the video.
Good tip...

If you add bag feet to the bottom, it won't roll over when in use. Great project. Congrats on your weight loss. Its not easy to do!
You're like the Bob Ross of leather, Thank you, Keep being awesome!

Thanks Eric
You are awesome
Also Good job with the weight loss 👍🏼
Doesn’t it also help make a firmer structure from the wet mold? I was planning on using this to make a scotch bottle carrier
man.. you came so close to opening up your thumb... glad to see you dodged a ... blade
Lookin' good, Eric! Excellent progress. Also, I love this project. Very cool. Thanks for making this video.
I started off making wet molded leather for bottoms of stuff, until I saw the double seem. I just don't like waiting for things to dry lol
I'm curious how the leather on you were using had such a shine on the grain side? Is that a specific type of leather or just a quality thing?

How deep can a wet mold be? Can you make a cup?

Congratulations on your weight loss 👍👍
Well done on the weight loss mate, you’re looking good 😊
Yeah buddy, looking good! Love that you progressed so much in your journey. Keep it up :)
Add an adjustable strap to it and you have yourself a bike seat bag. Congrats on the weight loss!

Maybe another good New Year's resolution would be to put some actual effort into spelling your intro captions properly.
Bro you gotta sort that beard out.
What happened with your finger? Have you made a smurf purse?
wood dye :)
