What an amazing album! It got me thinking. When I think “what do I want to listen to right now?” I NEVER pick up Glass. And the violin concerto is the only piece of his I can name and remember some of the tunes. Yet without fail every time I listen to him I am mesmerized and thoroughly enjoy it. Such a unique voice. No idea why I never think to put him on unless prompted. I should change that. Maybe it will be my New Year’s resolution. Thanks for the prompt Dave and for helping me discover this amazing disk!
This was Olafsson's first DG recording. You'll laugh .... I bought the 2 LP version in Iceland back in 2017. Very hypnotic music. Happy Holidays and looking forward to your New Year reviews.
I bought this on cd when it came out and immediately liked the way he plays Glass’s etudes, a composer I haven’t always had much time for, so he opened up a new musical avenue for me.
I bought the Glass Piano Works, and I have to admit I was impressed with Olafsson's pianism. I am going to see him with Yuja Wang at Symphony Hall here in Boston, Mass.
@@DavesClassicalGuide I bought it several years ago (Europe). At that time it was as a single CD, the one you were showing. Apparently, DG had reasons not to release it globally at the same time. Love the CD, by the way.
The master of the hemiola. Agree its a great disc and I find myself a big fan of Olafsson, although DG does an odd bit of packaging his stuff with various reworks that I am not sure if I am getting new material or they are just repackaging existing material.
Love it. Even working on the holiday! My son bought me the DGG LP issue of Florence Price's symphonies. He's become something of a vinyl addict. Whatever. I'm looking forward to hearing these. I've played her "The Oak" and Violin Concerto, and enjoyed both. No...no real relation to Glass, but still....it's Christmas and it's a Christmas present.

I'm pleasantly surprised that you are a Philip Glass fan. This recording is new to me and I have been enjoying it. Happy Hanukkah!
I bought this CD more than three years ago.

Love this CD !
Beautiful recording
Philip Glass is Bruckner in speed - to me
Great music
A stunning interpretation of the etudes. I bought the disk here in the UK a few years ago. His Rameau/Debussy disc (I feel) is equally impressive.
Yessss...I didn^t know the Rameau-Disc. It was a sugestion by spotify recently. Well done!
I've had a physical CD copy of this for years so it's maybe some re-print?
Yes, it was reissued just recently. It came out briefly in 2016, was included in a 3-pack, and now it's back again individually. Odd.

I like Glass and have a lot of his music. The Etudes, I have them played by the composer himself. I found no need for reworks or new recordings.
Totally agree.
It is on Spotify since 2017, really absurd release Date for CD haha

Great news Dave, the Irmgard Seefried edition on Eloquence is out! It is available at Prestomusic. Can you review this please? Thank you very much.
Love it. Even working on the holiday!

I have this disc. Great joy to listen to. In spite of The Hands imagery...
