Thank you Mr. Stivers for the magnificent music. I start my days with it. This time I would like to thank you also for uncovering to me the work of a new for me artist - John Melhuish Strudwick!
I love Handel so much but there are pieces of his music like this that I have never heard before and I love him even more for it. Going into my favourites ❤❤❤
You’re welcome. I’m glad you enjoyed it. This appears on an an excellent recital disc dedicated to French soprano Élisabeth Duparc, nicknamed "La Francesina."
This is truly angelic, the quintessence of sweetness and delicacy. Thank you so much, dear Jeffrey, for this beautiful gift. Hope you have a glorious weekend.
You’re welcome, dear Theo. I’m glad you enjoyed this. I’m very fond of this Ode for St. Cecilia’s Day, as well as Alexander’s Feast. It’s certainly not surprising that Handel would have been so inspired by the patron saint of music. Have a great week!
What can one say? Great opening titles. Outstanding cello playing. Gentle but emotive singing. Superb timing of the images. How long must this have taken? They also make me imagine which modern female musician and composer might be depicted in such images. Clara Schumann, Louise Farrenc, Ethel Smyth? The mind boggles at the possibilities.
Yes, and from 1683 to 1703, an annual festival was observed in London on her feast day. John Dryden wrote this poem for the 1687 festival, and that year it was set to music by Italian composer Giovanni Battista Draghi. Handel then used Dryden’s poem for his ode in 1739.

The cellist is Aude Walker-Viry. She is credited in the video and in the video description.

Кого она родила, девочку или мальчика? Софи, а не Цецилия 😃

Amazing cello and ensemble overall, but the singer sounds bland and constricted.
About the singing : not what I hear. Beautiful voice with a lot of nuance and color,
❤
