Most of the mega buildings of the colonized past was an *ode to the colonizers parent country* be it the Mughals, dutch, Portuguese, danish, French and the last one being the British .
The Maratha constructions, - the Vadas of Pune, the Palace of the Travancore King in Kerala, or those constructed by the Royal house of cholas, those of the chettiyars, the yadavas were constructions of function , elegance and form, because the moolah was their own and hence the construction was more humbling even when it had an extravaganza of its own compared to *the colonizers ultra huge displays of power*
The colonizers broke the back of their colony and built their MEGA MAGNIFICIENT STRUCTURE - for better or worse all of them are here to stay and let's keep them and use them well - turn them into museums, public spaces such as libraries, The British construction also has houses currently which are owned by the Railways and house their employees. they are cool on the most hottest day in summer ( in Byculla, Kalyan) However I cannot help writing *that the exquisite British buildings in calcutta are in RUINS*. if somebody does not pick up the check we will hear tomorrow that it has fallen down and XXX people have died, and other calamities galore.
