  • My Experience of the Amazing Rio Carnival - What Happens During Carnival in Rio | Brazil Travel 🇧🇷
    The Rio Carnival in Rio de Janeiro (Portuguese: Carnaval do Rio de Janeiro) is a festival held every year before Lent; it is considered the biggest carnival in the world, with two million people per day on the streets. The first Carnival festival in Rio occurred in 1723.
    Rio Carnival is meant to celebrate the beginning of Catholic Lent; it's perhaps most well-known for being an incredible spectacle of samba dancing, live music in the streets, world-class parades, colorful costumes, and vibrant revelry.
    Rio Carnival takes place in February or March (depending on the calendar), which is also the middle of summer in Brazil. Bring on the heat and humidity! It encompasses elaborate costumes filled with extravagant feathers, sequins, and glitter. Parades are the main event of the Rio Carnival festivities. The energetic, colorful parades consist of floats, dancing, and elaborate costumes.
    The Carnival festival happens over a few days, usually just before Lent, in February or March. Because traditionally, many people go on a fast during Lent, giving up meat, sugar, or other foods and drink, the carnival is an opportunity to enjoy these treats for the last time.
    Benefits of Carnival - Social benefits - self-esteem; social integration; leadership skill development; physical health and healthy habits; education and learning; volunteerism and community spirit; dedication; spread of the carnival work ethic.

    Carnival! It's on my bucket list! My list is 99% nature-based. But Carnival and the Kentucky Derby (the hats!) are one of my few more urban ones.

      Haha, and the hats at Carnaval are pretty special, too (assuming people are wearing anything!).

    What an incredible experience! I've never been to Brazil, but as my birthday is on February... I totally should! The only carnival I've been to is the Venice masks carnival, and it was beautiful. Also in February... :)

      I'm sure the one in Venice is incredible, too, but what do you say we do it in 2024? Dates are Feb 9 - 14, 2024.

      I'd highly recommend it and may be putting another group together for 2024, as well.

      @@ContinentalDrifter please let me know! I wanted to get the folia tropical tickets and purchase a costume and watch on the sidelines!

    Hi Ralph, that looks amazing! I once experienced Carnival in Switzerland and it was crazy! The quiet city I lived in turned into an all-night party in the week leading up to Ash Wednesday! It doesn't look like it was anything like Carnival in Rio, though. I've never visited Brazil, but it's definitely on my bucket list!

    Wow! Now that's a parade...okay carnaval. And how lucky you (and they) were to experience this before Covid hit. Curious if they are back to holding this event?

    What’s the best time to go? Like 3 days before the weekend of carnival or a full week before ?

    • @ContinentalDrifter
      @ContinentalDrifter  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I would think 3 days before is probably enough, unless you really want to get to know the city and explore it in depth.
