I'm a hang glider pilot (unpowered ultralight) and have been in the air when a cloud starts to overdevelop. We definitely try to get out of the air before the rain starts falling, even if it doesn't fall on us just having all that downflow happen within eye sight causes huge gust fronts. I know 2 pilots who didn't get down beforehand and ended up riding the gust front downwind several miles until it mellowed out so that they could land. All aviation requires good situational awareness and that really requires training. In my opinion the USUA does everyone a disservice with the "No License Required" advertising. While technically true all flight requires competent training. The USUA doesn't provide any direction on how to get properly trained (unlike the USHPA).
Looks like you almost flew into a micro-burst, meaning the air coming straight down out of the clouds ! Nice that airport was there....!!
Nice view from the top. Good little skill practice at least you landed it safe. Nice one 😊
